A wearer of different hats, Reset Industries co-owner David Baxter (a.k.a. Kab Driver) is currently prepping the release of his self-titled debut LP—which features appearances from Planet Mu favorite Boxcutter as well as soul vocalist Brian Greene—via French label Airflex Labs. But before Kab Driver drops on September 3, we’re treated to the sounds of “Never Say Never,” a tune which doesn’t shy from Baxter’s usual realms of jazz, two-step, and house music. The combination of loud snaps and claps, funky synth melodies, robotic vocals, oversized basslines, and chiming hi-hat ticks could be rather discordant, but Kab Driver manages to pull it all together in a beautifully rhythmic and structured manner.
