This one is a no-brainer: California beat chopper Shlohmo remixing the ghostly soul of Burial’s “Shell of Light” from 2007’s untouchable Untrue LP. It’s dangerous territory the young producer is venturing into by messing with this beloved material (not to mention music from the ultra-serious Hyperdub label), but Shlohmo seems more than respectful, gently layering his own blown-out beats and falsetto vocal hooks over the last few stanzas of Burial’s original track. In fact, Shlohmo posted the track on WEDIDIT Collective‘s blog saying, “I just really couldn’t stop listening to the ending of ‘Shell of Light.’ Shit is so beautiful, so I did this so I could listen to it more.” Game recognize game, right?
