Dutch-born, Berlin-based producer Applescal has launched a new digital single series via his own Atomnation imprint, and serving as its first installment is “The Veil,” a methodical and somber piece of techno built around a dark rhythmic core and expanded upon by hazy, wordless vocals, swirling FX, and subtle melodic embellishments. Chugging ceaselessly forward for much of its run, “The Veil” eventually begins to unfold in its final minutes, peeling back its drum programming to reveal a bubbling well of granulated bell sounds and long-winded vocals that reach deep into the production’s wide sonic landscape. With “The Veil” as its inaugural release, Applescal’s single series is said to continue in the weeks to come over on Atomnation’s Bandcamp page.
