Ataxiaa recent subject of out Get Familiar series—are set to feature on The Acid EP, a three-song sampler forthcoming on Play It Say It–Seth Troxler’s self-described “most no frills” label. Sharing Detroit roots with their latest label boss, Ataxia have always valued minimalism and skills over superfluous frills in their work.

Ataxia’s contribution to the release, “Afternoon Acid” is a perfect example of their ethos. It hints at the classics of acid, techno and electro, while remaining distinctly modern and infinitely fresh. Driven by the up-front feel of the kick drum and the heavily-modulated Moog synth bassline, the ever-evolving sequences continue to take on new life, yet remain in the inherently direct realm that the song represents.

Despondent vocal stabs repeat in unison with the swing of the beat, although it’s those distinctly haunting squeals made by the Roland SH101 that truly do the talking. Already proving itself to be a bomb intended for the prime of the party, “Afternoon Acid” has been awarded with rousing receptions by discerning international crowds that include Mexico’s BPM Festival, Circo Loco at DC10 in Ibiza and Output in New York.

The Acid EP is scheduled for February 26 release via Play It Say It.
