On its most recent release, NY-based dub/dubstep/dancehall/bass music label Subatomic Sound comes with one of the stranger collaborations in dubstep’s history. The label brought together a small handfull of disparate names from the music world and beyond for its recently released Chrome Optimism EP. Among the parties involved are legendary dub pioneer Lee Scratch Perry (pictured above), iconic American director David Lynch, and Austrian tune-making crew Dubblestandart, all of whom contributed their own ideas and style to the five-track release. With Dubblestandart handling the production duties, the two notable figures each delivered their own line of verbiage to be used throughout the EP—”Hello, Hell is very low, and Heaven is very, very high,” from Perry, and “I got into sort of cosmic explosions, euphoric chrome optimism,” from Lynch.
