DJ-producer and multi-instrumentalist Floating Points (a.k.a. Sam Shepard) has shared a studio version of “Kuiper,” released last month as a live recording. In the wake of his debut Elaenia LP, which took the #2 spot on our Best Releases of 2015 roundup, Shepard’s innovative compositions as Floating Points have largely skirted genre classifications by synthesizing spacious ambience, house music sensibilities, and elements of jazz fusion. In his latest offering, he once again combines seemingly disparate sounds – reverbed guitar and analog synth, among others – in a monumental 18 minute journey that moves carefully between ambitious intensity and atmospheric introspection. The track also teases at his forthcoming EP of the same name, to be released July 22nd on Luaka Bop/Pluto.
