Veteran crate-digger and BBC Radio mainstay Gilles Peterson recently embarked on an ambitious project to document Cuban music. Backed by the rum company Havana Club, the UK personality has assembled a remix compilation of Cuban originals entitled Havana Club Rumba Sessions, a downloadable sample pack, and a feature-length documentary that maps the trajectory of rumba music. The compilation (tracklist below) finds producers such as Motor City Drum Ensemble, Pépé Bradock, Max Graef & Glenn Astro, and more reimagining the rumba styles of guaganco, yambu, and columbia. Stream MCDE’s treatment below before Havana Club Rumba Sessions drops on March 11, and grab the free sample pack here. (via Resident Advisor)
