Hype Williams, the notorious duo of Inga Copeland and Dean Blunt, recently sat down for a chat with The Guardian prior to the release of its new LP for Hyperdub, Black is Beautiful. Many publications have tried to glean concrete facts from the mysterious artists to little or no avail (ourselves included), as Copeland and Blunt—like their hazed, osmosis style of music—are a tough read when it comes to sorting out what’s real and what’s not. Somehow, Ben Beaumont-Thomas scored a rare chance to speak with the artists, and delved into talking about Hype Williams’ influences, the pair’s formative years, and the origins of the project in his interview. Blunt and Copeland still managed to keep their oddball edge, though, by offering a 33-track collection of outtakes, called The Attitude Era, which you can download for free, here.
