LA Beat Scene Film Looking for the Perfect Beat Sets Release Date; Watch the New Trailer
The documentary sheds light on some of Low End Theory's most celebrated artists.
After touring the festival circuit last year, an LA-centric documentary called Looking for the Perfect Beat has announced an official release date and brief theatrical run. Filmed by Matthew F. Smith and produced by Low End Theory founder (and Alpha Pup co-owner) Daddy Kev, the documentary is “a cinéma vérité immersion inside the unique Los Angeles ‘beat scene’ community, centered around the world famous Low End Theory club night.” Filmed in 2013, the narrative focuses on a 24-hour period of studio life for artists like Teebs, Thundercat, Daedelus, Matthewdavid, Ras G (pictured above) and more. In an intimate new trailer released with the announcement, MC/producer Jonwayne lays down a verse while various LA peers toil in their respective studios.
For those in the Los Angeles area, Looking for the Perfect Beat will screen at the Downtown Independent Theater from February 13 to 19; tickets are available here. The film will also see a digital release via iTunes on February 24. Until then, the film’s new trailer can be watched below.
