This June, ascendant London pair Maribou State will release its debut long-player, Portraits, via the Counter imprint (an offshoot of Ninja Tune). After sharing the record’s lead single, “Rituals,” a few weeks back, the production outfit has returned with its forthcoming LP’s second single, “Raincoats.”

Spanning just under five minutes, “Raincoats” finds Maribou State keen to continue fusing together the worlds of emotive electronic production and live instrumentation, as rising organ chords and reverberant guitar lines are met by re-pitched vocal samples and sparse, marching rhythms. Throughout the track, the pair also builds rich layers of sonic atmosphere which help give “Raincoats” a hypnotic feel, even as its drum work picks up the pace in the tune’s second half.

Maribou State’s Portraits LP is slated to arrive on June 1 via the Counter label; in the meantime, album cut “Raincoats” is streaming in full below (“Raincoats” is also available on the duo’s Rituals 12″, out today).
