Veteran London artist Tom Jenkinson (a.k.a. Squarepusher) recently sat down with the folks at Pitchfork TV for an interview about his pretty amazing live show (you may remember how much we enjoyed his visuals at Barcelona’s Sónar this year), resulting in a piece which also features footage from his recent Ufabulum tour. As he discusses in the interview, Jenkinson strives to pair his sets with an LED backdrop that best represents and complements the music. Though they may seem like automated visualizers, the seizure-inducing imagery is rather carefully crafted by Jenkinson himself, who takes inspiration from his visceral reaction to the sounds and the imagination of his dreams. He also reveals that his LED helmet is something of a crutch for helping him deal with his insecurity as a performer. You can check out the whole mini-doc below, and if you’re lucky enough to be in London in March, don’t miss his largest solo show ever in Camden at the Roundhouse.
