Weekly Selections: LEV Festival, Sunwaves, Phil Weeks at Midnight Lovers
Our top weekly event picks from around the globe.
This weekend marks the 11th annual LEV Festival, which is set to take place at a number of venues across the city of Gijón in northern Spain. For this year’s edition, organizers have locked in a range of more experimental-leaning artists, most notably Byetone and Markus Heckmann who will premiere an audiovisual show specially designed for the event; the Raster-Noton boss will give a live performance of his forthcoming album, Universal Music. Make sure not to miss performances from Hauschka (who will also perform an audiovisual show, with the help of Florence To), Logos, Lorenzo Senni, and Kiki Hitomi. They join the likes of Factory Floor, Samuel Kerridge and Container. More information and tickets to LEV Festival can be found here.
This weekend also marks the return of Sunwaves–perhaps the most popular of the Romanian festivals featuring the signature minimal sound the country is most known for. This year’s debut edition (Sunwaves also holds an event at the end of August) will return to the usual seaside location in Mamaia near Constanta, and will host a plethora of heavyweight minimal selectors from the likes of Amphia head Cristi Cons, Arapu, Livio & Roby, Sepp, and XLR8R favorite Clovis. Make sure not to miss the [a :rpia:r] trio perform on their home turf. Tickets and information about Sunwaves can be found here.
And on Friday night in Los Angeles, veteran underground promoter Midnight Lovers returns to the warehouse district with a special edition featuring Parisian house master and Robsoul boss Phil Weeks. Organizers have also locked in an opening set from Get Physical contributor Sergio Santos. This one should be big, so make sure to get tickets in advance. Click here for more info.
