Herbert Preps New EP; Hear a Track Now

After returning—following an eight-year hiatus—to his house-minded Herbert moniker with the Part 6 EP last month, veteran electronic producer Matthew Herbert has today revealed plans to issue another EP under the alias in September. Logically titled Part 7, the upcoming EP is said to contain “another four tracks of twisted club music,” and its lead single, “Bumps,” appears to find the adventurous producer tinkering with bits of R&B as the guitar-fueled track again looks to a soulful guest vocalist to lead the expedition.

Part 7 will see its official vinyl release via Herbert’s own Accidental imprint on September 8, with a digital release planned for the following week. In the meantime, the latest production from the longstanding UK artist, “Bumps,” can be streamed in full below, where the forthcoming EP’s full tracklist has also been included.

Eest Coast “Marbles”

Denver label Shoeboxx first appeared on our radar last month, when the growing outpost offered a sleek track from Colorado producer Real Cosby‘s EP for the imprint. Now, Shoeboxx is in the midst of prepping the Selfish People EP from Connecticut beatmaker Adam Yan, who operates as Eest Coast. Serving as the lead single to his forthcoming effort, Yan’s “Marbles” production is awash with warm, swelling chords, glistening arpeggios, and sugary melodic twists; in other words, it’s an appropriate summer jam. “Marbles” and a handful of other tunes from Eest Coast will see their official release when the producer’s Selfish People EP drops on September 2.

FKA Twigs Reveals International Tour Dates

With the release of her debut full-length, LP1 this week via Young Turks , FKA Twigs has revealed a set of international tour dates that will take the London artist—and her band—around the globe all the way through to the end of the year. Beginning in the UK and trekking around Europe for much of October, FKA Twigs will land Stateside in November, hitting many of the US’ major cities. as well as a single stop in Canada. FKA Twigs’ full set of upcoming tour dates have been included below, along with a special flier for her planned North American stops.

Download Joey Anderson’s Set from Dekmantel Festival

After sharing a recording of Ben UFO’s set yesterday, Dekmantel is now offering a recording of New Jersey DJ/producer Joey Anderson‘s set from the recent Amsterdam festival for free download.

In our review of the Dekmantel Festival’s second edition—which took place earlier this month—we picked out Anderson’s set as one of the weekend’s best, and it’s easy to hear why, as the recording accurately captures the “intoxicating web of druggy, dubby, and psychedelic house and techno,” the Stateside talent pieced together during a muggy Saturday afternoon on the festival’s XLR8R UFO stage. Daedelus Announces Upcoming LP for Brainfeeder, Streams Lead Single

Veteran beatmaker and former XLR8R podcast contributor Daedelus has announced that he will return to Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder imprint with a new album next month. The LA-based artist’s forthcoming LP, The Light Brigade, reportedly arrives as the successor to his 2009 Righteous Fists of Harmony EP, which was inspired by the Boxer Rebellion, and recalls the Crimean war of 1853-56. According to a press release, “The music was written and recorded before the recent troubles broke out in that region, a turn of events which lends an air of requiem to the album.”

Before The Light Brigade lands on September 30, Daedelus has made lead single “Onward” available to stream. The track is accurately described as a “haunting lament,” in which melancholic vocals from ongoing collaborator Young Dad “wind their way through treated pianos and deep textures, creating a mournful ballad of noise.” “Onward” is premiering in full below, where The Light Brigade‘s tracklist and Daedelus’ forthcoming US tour dates have also been included.

DJCHAP “Wavv”

Hailing from Denver, DJCHAP is the latest producer to step up for the Tar net-label’s ongoing free EP series. Appearing in the middle of the producer’s three-track Amanecí EP is “Wavv,” a footwork-indebted exercise that chops together ethereal vocal samples and airy atmospherics over a series of frenetic rhythms (with a few nods to jungle sprinkled throughout). While the track can be picked up for free below, the rest of DJCHAP’s new EP can be grabbed—along with all of the Tar label’s catalog—over on Bandcamp.

Podcast 355: Mu-Ziq

At this point, simply referring to Mike Paradinas as an influential figure feels like a severe understatement. For the past two decades, the man has worked tirelessly to push electronic music forward, both as an artist—recording primarily as Mu-Ziq, amongst a litany of other monikers—and as the head of the groundbreaking Planet Mu imprint, which has become one of the leading outposts for experimental and left-of-center electronic sounds. Incredibly prolific and never beholden to any particular style, Paradinas has amassed quite the body of work over the years, and is adding a new EP, Rediffusion, to his discography this week. To mark the occasion, we asked the veteran producer to put together an exclusive mix for the XLR8R podcast series, without knowing exactly what he might deliver.

As it turns out, he’s put together a 68-minute session that seems to have two primary objectives. The first is to showcase a bunch of unreleased Planet Mu material, including multiple offerings from the likes of Konx-om-Pax, Claude Speeed, and Mr. Mitch. (There are also a number of new cuts from label afiiliate Kuedo.) Secondly, the mix seems to demonstrate that Paradinas has developed an affinity for the candy-coated sounds of the fast-rising PC Music camp, which makes a lot of sense when one considers Planet Mu’s unwavering dedication to the spastic end of the electronic spectrum. Bouncing between beatless drones and ADD-addled pop experiments, the podcast is a bit all over the place, but Paradinas’ selections are tied together by their colorful tones, bright synths, and unorthodox compositions. What results is something that’s simultaneously thrilling and a bit maddening; in other words, it’s very much something that only Mike Paradinas could have made.

Unsound Festival Reveals Third Round of Artists

Poland’s Unsound Festival has released the third wave of artists set to appear at this year’s event, which takes place from October 12 through 19. This latest round revolves around a number of collaborations, including Norwegian vocalists Jenny Hval & Susanna, and Suzanne Ciani performing on Buchla synth with the members of Demdike Stare as Neotantrik. Ambient artist Grouper (pictured above) makes a guest appearance with The Bug, and ghetto house veteran DJ Funk teams up with Night Slugs’ Bok Bok.

Additional names added to the bill include Willie Burns, Bristol collective Young Echo (plus a solo appearance from group member Vessel), Brooklyn duo Blondes, and a Teklife showcase that will also feature DJ Spinn, Taso, DJ Earl, and DJ Taye.

While full festival passes are sold out, tickets to individual events go on sale at the end of the month, and details of the festival’s full lineup so far are available here.

My Panda Shall Fly & Maulin “Gingerbread House (MPSF’s 5 a.m. Minimal Dub)”

London producers My Panda Shall Fly (pictured above, right) and Maulin (pictured above, left) have combined forces for the Push EP, a five-track collaborative effort that will see its release via Project: Mooncircle next month. In the meantime, My Panda has offered his “MPSF’s 5 a.m. Minimal Dub” version of EP cut “Gingerbread House” to pique our interest. A dubby production in its original form, here “Gingerbread House” is stripped and reshaped to resemble a pulsing techno stomp, which comes lined with refracted electronics and disintegrating textures. Out on September 9—and featuring a remix from R&S affiliates Lakker—My Panda Shall Fly & Maulin’s Push EP can be previewed after the jump.

Floating Points Drops Surprise Single via Eglo

Not long after the release of his King Bromeliad 12″, UK producer Floating Points announced a surprise new single via Twitter today, which drops via his primary label outlet, Eglo. The track on offer is a dub version of “ARP 3,” which premiered in 2011 on his acclaimed Shadows EP. This new version, renamed “Sparkling Controversy,” has been making the rounds in DJ sets for the past couple months, but has never seen official release. The single is available now as a one-sided 12″ pressing or digital download, and can be previewed and purchased via Bandcamp here.
