Surgeon is set to drop the two-track Fixed Action Pattern single via Belgian label Token later this month, but before then, the Birmingham techno veteran’s upcoming effort can now be streamed in full ahead of its release. Offering “Fixed Action Pattern” in its original from and a subdued “Dub” form, the forthcoming single finds Surgeon (who yesterday announced plans to reiusse an extensive portion of his early catalog) doing what he does best: crafting powerfully dense techno compositions.

Slated to see an official release on August 25, both versions of “Fixed Action Pattern” can be streamed in full below. The production is also slated to appear on the Token label’s upcoming Aphelion compilation, due out in November.

UK techno producer Perc is preparing to mark the 10th anniversary of his own Perc Trax label with a two-part compilation, which will see release this fall. The imprint reportedly began life as a platform for Perc’s own productions, but in the decade since its initial release, the label has expanded in scope, adding new artists to its roster and parenting the Perc Trax Ltd. and Submit sublabels. The first part of the upcoming compilation collects tracks from both label regulars and newcomers such as Truss, Clouds, and Happa, while the second disc will take the form of a DJ mix from Perc. The release will also kick off an international tour running through the winter of 2014 and into early 2015.

Slowly Exploding – 10 Years of Perc Trax (artwork above) lands on November 10 in the form of CD, digital download, or trio of 12″ EPs, and Perc’s mix will be made available for streaming only. A tracklist can be found below.

Following a performance together at the 2013 edition of Barcelona’s Sónar Festival, Italian producers Clockwork and Avatism have elected to collaborate on recorded material under the name CW/A. The pair’s debut outing will land next month in the form of the four-track Conducting the Method EP, which is said to present tracks the artists had developed for a string of “broad and improvisation-centric” live shows that followed Sónar. Selected from those sessions, three resulting dark and adventurous techno excursions will make up CW/A’s recorded debut, alongside a remix from Berlin duo Dead Heat.

Conducting the Method is set to see a vinyl release on September 15 via Vakant, with a digital release to follow on September 29. In the meantime, the EP’s artwork can be seen above, and its full tracklist can be found below.

Featuring Detroit rapper Danny Brown, Rustie‘s boisterous “Attak” single has received a new video treatment. Focusing entirely on Brown and his lyrical contributions to the effort, the clip for “Attak”—which is set to appear on Rustie’s upcomingGreen Language LP for Warp—finds the MC delivering his onslaught of rhymes alone in a grey room, as his lyrics side-scroll across the screen, eventually turning into a stream of graphics, which then lead to a barrage of computer-rendered confetti and money filling most every inch of the screen.

Having turned in a recent EP for 1-800-Dinosaur and with a new single on the way for Hemlock, UK producer and frequent James Blake collaborator Airhead has shared a new mix for free download. Appearing as part of FACT‘s weekly podcast series, the hour-long mix begins in more refracted electronic territory before moving on to include tracks from Kassem Mosse, Randomer, Untold, Pearson Sound, and Asusu, alongside a few cuts from the selector himself. Locked Groove has revealed plans to add another effort to his already impressive 2014 run (which has included records for We Play House as well as his own eponymous label) with the forthcoming Thesseus EP, which will mark the Berlin-based producer’s debut on Permanent Vacation. The three-track effort is said to find the former XLR8R podcast contributor “balancing ethereal house and techno,” with the record’s title track taking shape as “a stretched-out, Detroit-infused tune with hypnotic stabs… [and] a strong and moody bassline,” while b-side, “Meditations in an Emergency” is said to be “one of those tunes you put on at the end of the night.” In addition to the two new original tracks from Locked Groove, Italian producer Clockwork has also been brought in to close out the EP with a remix of “Meditations in an Emergency.”

Set for release on September 26 via Permanent Vacation, the artwork and tracklist for Locked Groove’s upcoming Thesseus EP are included below.

With a new single for Token on the way, longstanding UK techno artist Surgeon has announced plans to revisit and remaster a batch of old material for the upcoming SRX release series. The collection of “early, rare, and unreleased works” will be presented in six volumes and will cover material produced between 1994 and 1996, some of which was previously released with less-than-flattering mastering jobs. As Surgeon explains on his blog, “While searching through old DAT tapes I was shocked to find how clear and dynamic many of my early tracks sounded, not the way I remembered them from the vinyl releases.” He continues, “Those early tracks… were mastered and cut by people who had no understanding of electronic music. I actually remember cutting a dubplate back then and being asked if my track was ‘supposed to sound like that?’ The engineer was so disgusted at my music that once the cut started he left the room until it was finished.”

Now, in an effort to present those works as he originally intended them, Surgeon will launch the SRX series on September 15, with the re-release of his four-track, self-titled Surgeon EP. In the months to follow, the UK artist will also release newly remastered versions of three other EPs from that period, along with a collection of “Rare Tracks” and “Unreleased Tracks” made between 1995 and 1996.

Earlier this month, XLR8R attended the second edition of Amsterdam’s Dekmantel Festival and dubbed it one of the year’s best, with Hessle Audio co-founder Ben UFO ranking among the event’s top 10 standout sets. For those who missed the chance to catch him live (or as a souvenir for the ones lucky enough to be there in person), a large portion of the UK selector’s set is now available to stream and download in full. The nearly two-hour recording was made during Ben UFO’s appearance on the Dekmantel Selectors stage, which also played host to the likes of Optimo, DJ Harvey, DVS1, and Gerd Janson vs. Prins Thomas, and shifts easily among varied takes on house, techno, garage, and more.
