Throughout the week, a whole lot of material gets posted here on XLR8R. And while we know—and love—that some hardcore readers will eagerly pour over every single news story, interview, podcast, video, and MP3 download that appears on the site, we also realize that for most people, it’s impossible to see everything, which means that some quality XLR8R content is likely to get missed in the hustle and bustle of everyone’s daily lives. In the interest of making it easier for everyone to catch up, every Friday we present The Lowdown, a weekly wrap-up of the top 10 tidbits from our site.

2. As he’s been doing more frequently in recent months, Four Tet took to Twitter to give away a remix he did of RocketNumberNine, a London duo inked to his Text label.

3. UK youngster Karma Kid was responsible—well, partially responsible—for our most popular download this week, as we gave away Math Times Joy’s atmospheric remix of his “In My Arms.”

4. Joy Orbison also surprised everyone with an unscheduled giveaway this week, offering up “Donnell,” a soulful dancefloor cut sampling Donell Jones.

5. UNO affiliate Aquarian found his way into our Downloads section this week by sending along his remix of Rone’s Bye Bye Macadam” as a free giveaway.

6. Moog is offering the chance to win its new Sub Phatty synth to fans who simply fill out a survey about what they’d like to see at Moogfest 2014.

Though it wasn’t viewable from either North or South America, a partial solar eclipse was viewable in various parts of the world’s night sky over the past two days, and to mark the occasion, German label Project: Mooncircle have put together a free compilation featuring new tracks from Robot Koch (pictured above), Submerse, Daisuke Tanabe, and more. The appropriately titled, seven-track ?clipse comp can be downloaded for the price of an email address and zip code via the player below. A cassette version of the collection can also be purchased over on the label’s Bandcamp page.

Montreal’s 2013 edition of the MUTEK festival has slowly been trickling out details since its initial annoucement back in February, but one element of the lineup has remained constant since the opening round: dubstep/techno hybridist Martyn. MUTEK unveiled a new mix from Martyn on its SoundCloud earlier this week, previewing the DJ/producer’s musical repertoire and providing some straight up solid tunes. The mix features recent releases such as L.I.E.S. gem “Feelin” by Florian Kupfer, FaltyDL’s “Hardcourage” single, and James Blake’s tune “Voyeur,” taken from his new Overgrown LP. There’s also what appears to be a few unreleased goodies from Martyn’s 3024 label that have been thrown in for good measure, which can be heard in the player below. Tickets are still widely available for the 2013 MUTEK festival, where Martyn will be headlining alongside Matthew Herbert, Robert Hood, John Talabot, Andy Stott, Onra, and others.

Next month, Detroit techno maven Theo Parrish will launch a new label endeavor with a collaborative 12″ featuring himself and iconic afrobeat drummer Tony Allen. Called Wildheart, the imprint—which is set to offer its catalog in both digital and vinyl formats—will coexist alongside Parrish’s longstanding Sound Signature label, as Parrish himself explains, “If the Sound Signature label releases are for the body, Wildheart is for everything else.” “Day Like This” b/w “Feel” will arrive as the label’s first 12″ sometime in May, and alongside Parrish and Allen, is said to feature contributions from Eska, David Okumu (of The Invisible), and Andrew Ashong. Resident Advisor‘s fascinating mini-doc series, Real Scenes, has already hopped around a few different scenes in Europe—Bristol, Paris, and Berlin—and even made the trip down to Johannesburg. Now, the series has drifted across the pond to examine New York’s re-emerging electronic-music scene. Featuring interviews with Francis Engleheart from Dope Jams, Bryan Kasenic from The Bunker, Praveen Sharma (a.k.a. Braille), Ron Morelli from L.I.E.S., and others, the doc thoroughly examines the continuous uphill battle various musicians and party outlets have had with re-establishing a lasting presence, especially when it comes to DIY venues and loft spaces in Brooklyn.

But moreover, the interviews in the doc take a “tough love” approach, as seasoned veterans of NYC elucidate both on the creative energy of New York and the constant grind of the day-to-day to maintain outlets for that energy. Still, New York is continually on the rise, especially with Red Bull Music Academy holding all of its upcoming events and lectures for 2013 in NYC throughout the month of May. The third installment of Bleep‘s ongoing series of collaborative 12″s, The Green Series, has been announced, and is said to feature tracks from the masked German techno DJ/producer Redshape (pictured above) and fellow Berlin artist Steffi. Aptly called BLPGRN003, the double a-side release follows contributions from the likes of Objekt, Karenn, and Cosmin TRG, and, as always, will feature the photography of Shaun Bloodworth and will be house in high-quality packaging designed by GiveUpArt. Before the record drops on May 13 (pre-order here), clips of “Focus” by Redshape and Steffi’s “Attacke” tune can be previewed below.
