Appearing earlier this week on iconic DJ/producer/musician Squarepusher‘s YouTube account, this live footage and interview with the artist born Tom Jenkinson is an engrossing piece to close out the week with. The 20-minute clip is lifted from an MTV Japan broadcast in 1997, and jumps between a performance in Tokyo fueled by Squarepusher’s jaw-dropping bass chops and a lengthy—and admittedly strange—Q&A session with Jenkinson. It’s been a few weeks since Red Bull Music Academy graduate and Italian house synthesist Broke One gave XLR8R his solid “Gravity” tune, and the production has managed to prove it has some legs on it. Releasing label Bmkltsch unveiled this clip for Broke One’s latest single, a hyper-cut collage of time-lapse shots, panoramas from space, and microscopic wonders. All of the images are thrown around with giddy abandon, similar to the sample work and chords that propel the accompanying music forward. After releasing the Waiting Lines EP via Bmkltsch, Broke One also recently shared another of its tracks on his SoundCloud, which can be streamed below.
Irish producers Niall D’Arcy and Conor Conroy (a.k.a. Two Charming Men) are a couple of young house aficionados with an EP on the way via Helskinki’s Top Billin label. Our first taste of Lemons is the bulbous title track, a production geared strictly for the dancefloor thanks to its steamy percussion, galloping bassline, and sharp vocal jabs. Checan and Matrixxman & Vin Sol help round out Two Charming Men’s four-track record, all of which can be previewed before Top Billin drops the whole shebang on April 27, after the jump.
Prolific Berlin-by-way-of-Canada producer The Mole has announced his forthcoming Caregiver LP, which is set to appear this summer via his own Maybe Tomorrow imprint (which he runs alongisde Kompakt affiliate Jon Berry). Although The Mole has quite a substantial discography to his name, the upcoming album will mark only his sophomore full-length effort. Caregiver was recorded in Wagon Repair’s now-defunct Berlin studio, and its producer says that the record “is supposed to be listenable all the way through. So hopefully that unifying thread has something pleasing within it.” Before The Mole’s second LP drops on June 24, its tracklist and artwork can be found along with a stream of the album’s first single, “Our Time Has Come,” below.

Memory9, in collaboration with digital visual artists Saizen Media, claims that his new video is a “zero budget” project, an especially striking statement considering how the piece looks exceptionally high-end. Apparently, the video was sparked by a “mutual love for futuristic aesthetics and cinematic atmospheres,” and the tune that accompanies it is a perfect match. “The Abyss Within” takes its time to wind up, building on bubbling, low-swinging synths and stark whirls of percussion before igniting into a stuttering, confident slice of futuristic beat work. Similarly, the clip follows suit, showing all the cogs in its machine flicker on one by one before going into an impressive alien light show. “Into the Abyss” is taken from Memory9’s forthcoming EP of the same name, which is set to drop on May 20 via Mnemonic Dojo.
Up-and-coming Glaswegian producer Koreless has finally announced the imminent arrival of his first-ever EP, called Yugen. The six-track record is said to “exist somewhere between soulful electronica and Eno-like ambience,” as well as be almost entirely beatless (a surprise, given the artist’s past work and recent collaborations with Sampha). Yugen will be released on May 21 by UK taste-making imprint Young Turks, and is preceded by its first leak, the nearly seven-minute “Sun” track. Entering into its 13th year, the Vancouver-based New Forms Festival has become a mainstay in promoting a variety of electronic artists while keeping the intimate qualities of a DIY venue an integral part of its festival environment, a fact we discussed after attending last year. As such, we’re excited to learn that the initial line-up for New Forms’ 2013 incarnation has been announced. Featuring Detroit techno legend Jeff Mills (pictured above), German DJ/producer Kassem Mosse, Young Echo fixture Kahn, breakout L.I.E.S. affiliate Delroy Edwards, San Francisco-based futurist EPROM, and many more, this year’s festival will place between September 12 and 15, wrapping up the summer in proper fashion. The initial batch of artists performing at New Forms is available to peruse below—more will be announced in the weeks and months ahead—and early bird tickets, volunteering opportunities, and more information about this year’s festivities are available here.
Earlier this week, Berlin-by-way-of-Paris producer Rone dropped a new collection of remixes for “Bye Bye Macadam,” a track from last year’s Tohu Bohu LP for InFiné. Alongside reworks from PLANkT and techno legend Juan Atkins on the Bye Bye Macadam Remixes EP (artwork above) is this one from UNO affiliate Aquarian, who bolsters the original track with a hulking procession of techno drums and a flurry of darkened textures—effectively rendering this version’s seven-plus minutes much more appropriate for a warehouse rave. For contrast, we’ve included the video for the original “Bye Bye Macadam” after the jump.
As XLR8Rreported in February, Friends of Friends-affiliated house label Young Adults has readied the launch of a compilation called House Slippers, which arrives complete with a mix featuring all of its tracks. Premiering today, that DJ set by label co-owners Lazy Brow and Deepbody can now be heard in full on XLR8R. Originally set for release on April 23, the compilation is available now, featuring cuts from longstanding producer and XLR8R podcast contributor Mark E, LA fixture Suzzane Kraft, and up-and-comers Grown Folk. The mix of those exclusive tracks is available for free with the purchase of the compilation, and is currently streaming in the player below, where the tracklist can also be found.
