Burgeoning Los Angeles producer Floyd Campbell has plotted his return to the dancefloor, announcing the forthcoming Bank Walls EP (artwork above), which is set to drop on the Jerome LOL- and Samo Sound Boy-helmed Body High imprint in the coming weeks. The six-track effort will mark only the second official release from Campbell, whose hybrid take on ghetto house and cosmic dance music we most recently experienced via the budding producer’s VISIONS2 mix. DFA tenant and psych alchemist Sinkane (pictured above) is getting the remix treatment on a new 12″ single from the label, which features reworks from two of Germany’s more reputable house duos. The single is led by Tuff City Kids’ (a.k.a. Gerd Janson & Lauer) retooling of “Making Time,” with two different remixes of “Warm Spell” by Barker & Baumecker rounding out the release. Last fall, NYC house producer Fred P (a.k.a. Black Jazz Consortium) released the first installment of Codes and Metaphors, a three-part series that would eventually become a proper LP. Though it took nearly half a year to complete the trilogy—the third volume found its release only a month ago—the complete album will drop later this month, and has already been made available to stream in full. Materialized via Fred P’s own Soul People Music imprint, the full-length doesn’t include the featured remixes from the previous installments, which came courtesy of Simbad, Jus-Ed, and Aybee, but it does have some additional original efforts. French producer and Marble co-founder Para One, following his 2012 album Passion, is readying standout cut “Every Little Thing” for a proper single release. “Every Little Thing” has gotten a retooling from the producer, as the tune now features a new verse from rapper Cam’Ron. In addition, the record includes remixes by Night Slugs stalwart Girl Unit and French upstart Canblaster. The single drops worldwide on March 25. The 2013 edition of the Red Bull Music Academy is set to begin soon, with the festivities officially getting underway on April 28 and running all the way until the end of May. Whilst the Academy and its class of budding music makers will be enveloped in all sorts of activities during their time in New York City, RBMA has also put together a coinciding month-long run of events and lectures, which will feature a wide range of talent that includes Flying Lotus, Brian Eno, Andy Stott, Four Tet (pictured above), Pantha Du Prince and the Bell Laboratory, Masters at Work, and many more. It would appear that the Academy’s goal was to present a little something for everyone, and from the looks of it, they have succeeded. The month of shows is sprinkled with DJ sets and live performances by Blondes, Metro Area, Koreless, Objekt, Distal, Throwing Snow, Bok Bok b2b L-Vis 1990, Brenmar, Sinjin Hawke, Skream, Mala, Oneohtrix Point Never, and Laurel Halo—and that’s just scratching the surface. Also scheduled are special film screenings and conversations with music industry luminaries such as Brian Eno, Erykah Badu, and James Murphy. Just today, London’s 2nd Drop imprint released Future Foundations, a compilation featuring new tunes from South London Ordnance, Youandewan, Last Magpie, and the original version of LV‘s “Livin Up” with UK vocalist Dan Bowskill. Reaching way across the pond, the label has enlisted Portland producer Gulls (pictured above) to rework the track, and he’s complied by reshaping the sparse momentum of LV’s production into a space-age piece of dub complete with bits of echoed percussion and distant horn lines. Following his widely lauded 2011 Glass Swords LP, Rustie has been rather quiet on the production front. Then today, without any advance notice, the Scottish producer released a surprise double a-side single via Numbers, just before he embarks on a brief North American tour. The single contains the tracks “Slasherr” (which can be streamed below) and “Triadzz,” and will soon be followed by more solo material and whatever sounds he comes up with while contributing to the production of the upcoming Danny Brown record. Rustie will be hitting the road throughout the year, but his upcoming dates on North American soil run from March 7 to March 16. “Slasher” b/w “Triadzz” can be pre-ordered here alongside the digital version, and all of Rustie’s announced tour dates are listed below.

February may have been the shortest month of the year, but that by no means reduced the number of quality tunes which ended up in our Downloads section across its 28 days. An equal combination of familiar faces—Azari & III, Jacques Renault, Robag Wruhme, Bobby Tank, Lokiboi, and Soosh (pictured above) to name a few—and newcomers such as Kixnare, Gidge, and Superstructure made for a particularly strong month of free music here on XLR8R. Last month, Swedish outfit Gidgeoffered up its floaty take on El Perro Del Mar‘s “Hold Off the Dawn,” and now Young Echo affiliate Vessel—a man who we deemed our favorite new artist of 2012—has turned in this decidely darker take on the disco-pop track. In fact, if it weren’t for the occasional vocal appearances that peak above the mechanical percussion and swarming textures, we’d really have no idea how the original and this remix were related at all—not that we’re about to start complaining about that.
Space Dimension Controller (a.k.a. Jack Hamill) has always been sort of an oddball, an artist whose engaging takes on various permutations of electro and techno has always been counterbalanced by an incredibly bizarre, sci-fi-flavored backstory involving time travel, aliens, lost love, and the destruction of Earth. It’s a convoluted tale, yet the Belfast producer seems intent to continue fleshing it out with each of his records, most notably on 2011’s stellar The Pathway to Tiraquon 6. The saga continues this week with the release of Hamill’s new full-length, Welcome to Mikrosector-50, which drops via R&S and could be classified as positively cinematic in scope. Quite literally playing like a film—the LP even includes bits of character dialogue between tracks—the album also features more of Space Dimension Controller’s distinct takes on ’80s electro-funk, mellow synth-pop, pulsing techno, serene soundscapes, and more. Even with all the variety, Space Dimension Controller shows a skilled hand throughout, making for an album that’s as compelling as it is unique. Welcome to Mikrosector-50 is streaming in full below.
