Video: King Midas Sound “Earth a Kill Ya (Gang Gang Dance Rework)”

Before the UK’s cross-pollinating dubstep outfit King Midas Sound drops Without You—an album of “reworks” of tracks off the With You LP from an all-star cast of producers—on November 1 via Hyperdub, we’re treated to this whimsical version of “Earth a Kill Ya” by Brooklyn psych lovers Gang Gang Dance. In addition to turning the dystopic tune into a playful, dubby cut, the NY-based band has paired their music with a Monty Python-esque animation that’s just about as strange and funny as the soundtrack. Taragana Pyjarama “Sudanese Blonde (FCAN Remix)”

Simply put, Taragana Pyjarama (pictured above) makes real nice music. The Denmark-based artist released his self-titled debut EP back in March, but it’s basically incomprehensible that its fuzzy tones and Balearic melodies could ever grow tiresome. This new remix of EP cut “Sudanese Blonde” is no different, as FCAN has taken the dreamy swirl of the original tune and punched up the low end with some thicker, club-ready beats. It’s not a wholesale reinvention, but it should help tide everyone over until new Taragana Pyjarama material appears sometime in the months ahead.

Stream the New Rustie Album

Several big albums are dropping this month, yet it seems like none of them have received the pre-release accolades being showered upon Glass Swords, the debut full-length from Scottish producer Rustie. The LP officially drops on October 10 via the esteemed Warp label, but a stream of the entire album premiered earlier this week on The Guardian UK music blog. The stream is posted below, so give it a listen and dig in to the hyperactive electro-synth-bass madness that lies within.

PEACE “BBlood (Wax Cotton Remix)”

While the new UK foursome PEACE (pictured above) is a touch too straight-ahead indie rock for our tastes here at XLR8R, this remix by Wax Cotton is a little more our style. The fresh-faced DJ/production duo from London creates a midtempo, electro- and disco-tinged house vibe with a newly amplified bassline and four-on-the-floor kick while removing the distortion and leaving only traces of the original vocals and guitar behind.

Chrissy Murderbot I’m a Asshole EP

On the obnoxiously titled (and grammatically incorrect) I’m a Asshole EP, Chicago juke/ghetto-house appropriator Chrissy Murderbot takes his “concept of sleaze” to new lows. He adds sexually charged booty bass (à la 2 Live Crew) to his repertoire of genre signifiers, but it’s not just booming low end and skittering breakbeats mucking up the producer’s latest record. These six hyperactive club tunes are chock full of mysogynistic and obscene themes (like, say, “nutting”), which might not be as offensive if I’m a Asshole wasn’t so painfully derivative.

Chrissy Murderbot has never seemed too worried about crafting an original sound. His music is strictly about having “fun,” no question, but why listen to tracks that have been telephone-gamed across eras and cultures when you could just as easily throw on some Sir Mix-A-Lot or DJ Funk records? “The Call of Booty” and “Back That Thang Up” are paint-by-number facsimiles of any number of Miami bass classics, and tracks like “I Nutted in You” and “Girl” retain little of the charm footwork needs to remain interesting. (It’s actually a bit sad to see DJ Gant-Man’s name featured on the former of those cuts.) To his credit, Murderbot approaches something fun, infectious, and interesting on his EP’s title track, but the lyrics provided by MC Johnny Moog just about ruin any potential his instrumental production ever had.

Global Communication, Frankie Knuckles, Matias Aguayo, and Many More to Perform as Part of RBMA Madrid

It was unfortunate news that the Red Bull Music Academy had to withdraw from hosting this year’s events in Tokyo in the wake of the devastating tsunami, but things started looking brighter once Madrid was named as the new locale RBMA 2011 would inhabit. Now, with the announcement of the first round of events scheduled to take place in the Spanish capital, the excitement has jumped a notch. Artists set to appear between October 23 and November 25 include Global Communication (performing the excellent 76:14 LP in full), Matias Aguayo, Mathew Jonson, El Guincho, Frankie Knuckles (pictured above), Ghosts on Tape, Mannie Fresh, Tiger & Woods, Krystal Klear, Modeselektor, Doc Daneeka, Clams Casino, and xxxy, among many others. You can find more information about the month-long string of musical events at RBMA Madrid here, and keep your eyes peeled, as RBMA promises that more events will be announced in the weeks ahead.

Sylle Struck “808 Miles (feat. Peter Dre)”

This piece of haunting, hip-hop-flavored bass music comes courtesy of Sylle Struck (a.k.a. Sylvester Struckman), and is taken from his new EP, Solid Ground for My Trolley, which came out yesterday on SoundEscape. The Danish DJ/producer and Greased Up crew member is offering the entire EP for free download on Bandcamp. Check out the video for another cut, “High Five,” complete with its images of hardcore weed porn, after the jump.

eLan “2in5four (Low Limit Remix)”

San Diego, CA producer eLan is having a very busy year. He already released two EPs in 2011 on Modeselektor’s Monkeytown label, and has another EP and a double album, Next2Last, due out later this month. eLan, a member of Shlohmo‘s WeDidItCollective, sent over this remix from the second disc, a lurching, low-end-heavy production crafted by another West Coaster, Low Limit (a.k.a. the LA-based half of Lazer Sword).

MoogFest Adds Terry Riley to Lineup

The massive electronic music extravaganza that’s poised to take over Asheville, North Carolina between October 28 and 30, MoogFest, has just announced that minimalist visionary Terry Riley has been added to its enormous lineup. In a press release, the festival states, “Although he has chosen to perform mostly acoustic in recent years, Riley will present a rare concert of his legendary electronic keyboard music, including his remarkable A Rainbow In Curved Air.” The musician/composer will join the likes of Brian Eno, Tangerine Dream, Flying Lotus, The Field, Suicide, Zomby, AraabMuzik, Oneohtrix Point Never, and M83 for a weekend celebrating the impact of Moog on the music world. (Don’t forget that you can also enter to win a pair of passes to MoogFest, here.)
