Marc Hellner’s long-running electro-pop poject, Pulseprogramming, has dropped this video for the lead single from his forthcoming Charade is Gold LP. Similar to the nonchalant feel of the wispy tune it accompanies (which we posted for download a few weeks back), the video seems to carelessly jump through a variety of serene images, including a handful of glimpses of the song’s vocal contributor, Chanel Pease, who does her best to look as ambivalent as possible while delivering the tune’s airy whisperings. Charade is Gold is set to be released May 3 through the Audraglint imprint.

InfinitiRock “Autumn Sunrise”

Here we have a pleasant surprise from the diverse roster Sufjan Stevens and company maintain over at Asthmatic Kitty. “Autumn Sunrise” comes to us from 18-year-old producer InfinitiRock, whose press release claims that he’s been crafting instrumental beats for the last 12 years–which means while all the other kids were playing hide-and-go-seek, InfinitiRock was putting in work “in the lab.” Sure sounds like the time spent early on has paid off, as this track can certainly hold its own amongst the current wave of stoney, blissful beats with its distant pitch-shifted samples and delicate percussion programming that bounces between the track’s monstrous low end. With its calming flow, it’s no surprise that “Autumn Sunrise” serves as the last full track on InfinitiRock’s contribution to Astmatic Kitty’s Library Catalog Music series, a chapter entitled Music For Primordial Recollection (artwork above). And for those whose curiosity is piqued from this first taste, a full stream of the album can be found here.

Gatto Fritto Gatto Fritto

There are artists who construct a wall of inscrutability around themselves through misdirection and anonymity, and then there are those who are simply not there. Gatto Fritto is one Ben Williams from the UK, and like many of his ancestors from the world of leftfield disco, we don’t know, and just don’t need to know, much more than that.

While Gatto Fritto (the artist) remains somewhat of a mystery, Gatto Fritto (the album) is rather impressive, exploring melodic space disco while filtering strains of old Italo-disco, forgotten pastoral IDM, and psychedelic Balearic trance into an organic-feeling whole that transcends the limited scope of today’s chillwave tag. Sometimes there are vocals (“The Curse,” “Hex”), but they’re altered and integrated as one element in the mix, adding to emerging themes rather than calling attention to themselves. It’s the beats and textures that are the stars here, such as the thickly layered vintage synthesizer arpeggios lazily spiraling across “Solar Flares Burn For You,” the congas and electric pianos propelling “My Etheric Body,” and the ecstatic pileup of urgent melodies that take “Beachy Head” straight into space.

Two epic tunes make up Gatto Fritto’s peak middle. “Lucifer Morning Star” sugarcoats a tale out of Milton with a vocodered lullaby melody over soothing synth washes and adorably wobbly bass. That’s followed by “Invisible College,” which starts with a jaunty acoustic strum and handclaps and slowly builds into a knotty, multi-part summer-bonfire-disco throwdown that sounds like the best figures of nu-disco jamming together along the ocean’s shore.

Vybz Kartel Offers Up Free Download of “Go Go Wine”

Yesterday we posted a stream of the single “Go Go Wine,” off the forthcoming Dre Skull-produced Vybz Kartel LP, Kingston Story. Now Dre Skull’s Mixpak label is offering up the track for download for the meager price of an email address, so gwaan grab dat!

Clicks and Whistles “Cranberry Goose (Distal Remix)”

As Atlanta-based Embassy Recordings readies its next release, a two-song single from Virginia-based duo Clicks and Whistles (pictured above), label owner Michael Rathbun (a.k.a. Distal) offers up his own remix of the track “Cranberry Goose.” The remix showcases Distal’s unique take on juke, albeit with a Southern twist. Swirling, pitch-bent leads accompany rolling, pitched 808 toms, snares, and kicks. The end result is a high-energy, floor-ready track that shifts between full-time frenzy and half-time swagger. Grab the remix now and cop the release when it drops on May 2.

Video Premiere: Gold Panda “Marriage (Star Slinger Remix)”

This blissful head nodder of a remix from UK-based Star Slinger has received an enchanting video treatment thanks to the work of visual artist Anže Sekelj and photographer Lucijan Kranjc (together known as How Do I Computer). Overlaying intricate light patterns, the Slovenian duo gives what would otherwise be the more-or-less benign scenes that make up the video a stunning visual effect which is said to attempt to “add motion to non-moving objects in real space without physically interfering with the environment and trying to give a new perspective with portraying the intangible in marriage.” Heavy stuff, right? This remix, along with three others, can be found on Gold Panda‘s Marriage EP, which is out now digitally on Ghostly, or, if you’re lucky enough to find a copy that wasn’t snatched up on Record Store Day, 12″ vinyl.

Sun Glitters “Love Me (:papercutz Remix)”

Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen Luxembourg’s Sun Glitters pop up in our download feed a couple of times with one original track and one remix that producer Victor Ferreria crafted for the blog-adored Purity Ring duo. Today, we get to complete the trifecta, and offer you a remix of Sun Glitters’ “Love Me” by Portugual’s :papercutz (a.k.a. Bruno Miguel and friends). On this remix, Miguel inserts some ominous sonics and thick atmospherics into an otherwise blissful and anthemic tune. You can hear more versions of tracks from Sun Glitters’ Everything Could Be Fine album—by the likes of Teen Daze, Blackbird Blackbird, and other blog-friendly artists—on the Everything Could Be Remodelled and That’s Fine! remix collection, which is available for free here.

Light Asylum Signs to Mexican Summer

The Brooklyn duo of producer Bruno Coviello and vocalist Shannon Funchess (a.k.a. Light Asylum) has been in a label limbo of sorts since self-releasing the excellent In Tension EP last year. Well, consider the label-less period of the Light Asylum saga finished as fellow Brooklynites Mexican Summer have penned a deal with the group, which is said to include a proper release of the aforementioned EP and—the big news—an eventual full-length to come in 2012. All this comes whilst the pair are taking their brand of shadowy, ’80s-influenced productions around the US with electro-hybrid rockers Yacht. You’ll find the remaining tour dates, along with In Tension‘s intense new cover art, and a video for the EP’s closing track, “Dark Allies,” below.

Skweee Extravaganza: New Releases From LoDubs/Grand Cooley, Daniel Savio, and Rigas

Weee love us some skweee over at XLR8R, as you may already know, so we’re pleased to announce a few new releases from some of the scene’s biggest players. First up, Portland music hub LoDubs just hipped us to what they’re calling the first-ever skweee mixed cassette, entitled Mega?-?Plaskweeebo, helmed by label head Jon AD (but released by Grand Cooley, technically) and featuring the likes of Pavan, Rigas den Andre, Randy Barracuda, and plenty more. The limited-to-100 C-60 cassette is available for pre-order, and to stream, here.

But that’s not all: The main who gave skweee its name, Daniel Savio (pictured above), has just put up a free-to-the-masses album, SKW3FRGR8R, available to download here, and his Stockholm neighbor, Rigas den Andre, just dropped this little gem, “Dead Ponies,” which you can check out below, as a teaser for his upcoming full-length, Speed Run, due out in May.
