Felix Uran “Masprojekt (To The Stars)”

As more and more music continues to pour in from Dramatic RecordsEndless House archives, it seems the project is bent on completely embodying its title. We can’t say we’re mad about it, especially when the quality of sounds remains at the same caliber of previously featured tracks “Pavel” and “Soul Flipper PART 2”, which is exactly what Felix Uran’s “Masprojekt (To The Stars)” does. This “sister track” to Uran’s similarly titled contribution to the Endless House LP, “Masprojekt 3,” is another gorgeous collection of analog electronic sounds that ebb and flow, twist and turn throughout the sparkling composition. But that’s not all the Dramatic Records camp has to offer: Coming this June is another companion to the Endless House compilation, a six-song split 12″ that features three new tracks from both Rasmus Folk and Walter Schnaffs. Called Endless House Presents: Rasmus Folk vs. Walter Schnaffs, the forthcoming release is said to tell “the story of the rivalry between the House’s most esteemed residents.” With new side-plots now developing, it’s quite possible that the musical tales of the Endless House Foundation will truly never end.

Miracle “The Visitor (The Field Remix)”

London label House Anxiety has a new EP coming down the pipeline from Miracle, a sort of art-rock supergroup whose members have spent time in Zombi and Sun O))), among other bands. “The Visitor” is one of the tracks on the outfit’s forthcoming Fluid Window record, and is remixed here into something entirely different by Stockholm micro-techno auteur The Field (pictured above). The producer does away with original track’s vocals altogether, focusing instead on turning the duo’s dark synth-pop instrumentation into a lengthy bout of mesmerizing dance grooves and wispy soundscapes. As one would likely expect from The Field, he accomplishes his goal with taste and aplomb, and provides the music world with yet another ambient techno epic to lose ourselves in.

Watch Last Night’s Carl Craig and Moritz von Oswald Performance in Paris

Last night (Thursday, April 14), Carl Craig restaged his “Versus” performance with dub-techno pioneer Moritz von Oswald and multi-instrumentalist Francesco Tristano in Paris. Dubbed “Versus 2.0,” the hour-and-a-half-long performance involved the three musicians working with a virtual orchestra (unlike 2008’s first “Versus” performance, which saw Craig leading an actual orchestra in France) accompanied by a visually stimulating backdrop. Watch the live-broadcast stream from last night above.

Casual Fridays: The Trance Edition

Our resident stylist Andrew Porter waxes casual on men’s and women’s must-haves.

Art Production Fund Towels x Sven Vath “L’Esperanza (Visions of Shiva Mix)”
Okay, so if you hear this track this summer, chances are you’re on a beach somewhere in Croatia. I don’t know anywhere else in the world this Vath/Van Dyk meeting of the minds is getting play time. You’re probably shirtless and shoeless—billowy linen pants blowing in the warm breeze—surrounded by bikini-clad Eastern European babes. Not a bad look, if you ask me. That said, a weekend of Croatian-beach trance can be exhausting. Come Monday morning, you’re gonna need a rejuvenating dip in the crystal clear waters of paradise. I recommend one of the many Art Production Fund Beach Towels (pictured above) for post-swim drying action. This line has featured artists from Raymond Pettibon to Jeff Koons to Jasper Johns. Not only do these towels look amazing, but they’re also gigantic. Should you need to sleep on the beach, they’ve got you covered. For those who aren’t beach trancing, purchase one of these and let your friends know that you’re cultured—you know, “into art ‘n stuff.”

Monitaly Flat Front Shorts x Peyote “Alcatraz”
Peyote dropped “Alcatraz” in 1992 on R&S. For those of you that think this is a techno track, so be it—I’m not here to argue genres. As far as I’m concerned, this is a classic deep tribal desert-rattlesnake trance track. If you’re hearing this burner, you’re probably at some high plains rave in New Mexico that I know nothing about. If I had to guess, there’s probably a man in a sarong dancing next to you. Dreadlocks are flowing freely, the DJ is cueing up Rabbit in the Moon’s “Out of Body Experience,” and it’s hot as hell. You don’t want to overheat, but the man-sarong isn’t really your jam. Well, good thing I’m telling you about these. The Monitaly Flat Front Short is the perfect short for summer 2011. I saw these at Assembly last weekend and they blew my mind. The print is out of this world and the attention to detail on these is borderline obsessive—after all, Monitaly is designed by Yuki Matsuda of Yuketen fame. Alas, these are a bold statement and a bit expensive. So if deep tribal desert-rattlesnake trance raving isn’t really your thing, I recommend the J.Crew Stanton Short. Great colors, great fit, totally affordable. See you on the high plains.

Nike Free iD x Armin Van Buuren “Not Giving Up On Love (Extended)”
I haven’t bought a pair of Nikes in years, but I’ve decided it’s time for new direction. I’m really into these Frees. So much so that I purchased these two pairs (designed by yours truly) last week. These runners are incredibly comfortable and they look futuristic in just the right way. More importantly, the Andrew Porter-designed Frees are pretty much like wearing this Armin Van Buuren track on your feet. Slow build—you see them coming from a good seven blocks away. You know you’re waiting for something good, but not quite sure what. Then about four minutes and 40 seconds later, I’m standing in front of you and my sneakers just hit your eyeballs with a Van Buuren-caliber drop. Wham-O! You may tell yourself you’re not feeling these shoes—I assume this is also what you’re saying about “Not Giving Up On Love”—but deep down inside you know you love the both of them. Hey, if that doesn’t sell you on these, I encourage you to tap into your creative inner self and design your own pair. Stay positive. START TODAY!

Jonwayne “Crumbled Luna”

Los Angeles rapper/producer Jonwayne has garnered a good deal of buzz within the SoCal beat community over the past few months, and next week will see the release of the producer’s first proper full-length, Bowser (artwork above). Yes, that’s right, Jonwayne has chosen to name his newest LP after the legendary antagonist from the Mario Brothers series, and maybe not just for nostalgia purposes; it’s also as a nod to the chosen fidelity of the majority of the producer’s sound sources—8-bit. Nestled a little before midway into the video-game homage of an LP is “Crumbled Luna,” which begins with a slightly off-kilter arpeggio that somehow teeters between blissful and menacing while tiny drums skitter below. Then come the chords; swelling, lush, and vibrant, they evoke a sense of drama that’s not easy to come by within the sonic realm of outdated microchips, and yet it’s a realm which Wayne seems to walk through with a confident, concentrated swagger. “Crumbled Luna,” along with Bowser‘s 18 other 8-bit opuses, can be heard in full when the LP is released April 19.

Midland Set to Release New Single for Aus Music

Burgeoning UK producer Midland is set to return to the label that first thrust his productions into the arms of 2-steppin’ garage fans the world over, Aus Music, with a new single, “Through Motion” b/w “Shelter,” slated for release this coming May. Most of our readers should remember Midland’s excellent 2010 collaboration with future-bass wunderkind Ramadanman, “Your Words Matter” b/w “More Than You Know,” but now Midland will be going this one alone, presenting two new tracks said to explore “the boundaries of 2-step, UK garage, and techno.” With a slew of impressive remixes and tracks to his name since his last contribution to the Aus Music catalog, his forthcoming single can definitely be thrown into the “much-anticipated” category, especially considering it comes with a digital-only remix from Chicago’s Tevo Howard to boot. “Through Motion” b/w “Shelter” drops May 16, and for those who somehow missed Midland’s aforementioned Ramadanman collab, you’ll find a stream of it below.

Clams Casino “Gorilla”

In less than a year, the totally on-fire Tri Angle label has quickly made a name for itself as a respectable source for dark electronic music influenced by hip-hop and R&B, but now the hub seems to be inching just a bit closer to releasing more or less straightforward hip-hop. The recent addition of burgeoning beatsmith Clams Casino—who’s already produced for the likes of Lil B and Soulja Boy and dropped a much-lauded instrumental mixtape—to its slowly expanding roster is testament to that claim, and this distorted slow-burner of a tune further solidifies it. “Gorilla” is taken from Clams Casino’s Rainforest EP (pictured above), and exhibits the artist’s penchant for crafting thick washes of grimy fuzz, pitched-up/down vocal samples, syrupy basslines, and slow-slapping beats—then shrouding the whole thing in more shadowy atmospheres and gritty textures. We wouldn’t mind hearing a flow over this tune, but seeing as how Clams Casino says that “these songs have always existed purely as instrumentals,” we’re more than happy to take the Rainforest EP’s five tracks unencumbered by another artist’s ideas when it drops on June 27. Video: Blondes “Hater”

As we reported several months ago, the Brooklyn-based analog obsessives of Blondes are releasing a series of 12″ EPs on the RVNG label this year, a run which kicked off with the “Lover” b/w “Hater” record. Here, we have a music video for the b-side of that 12″, an “analog video synthesis” created by Phil Logan. The piece swirls and flickers much like the duo’s track itself; each pattern of light constantly shapeshifts in the dark like some sort of homemade proto-screen saver. However, Logan’s video has much more substance to it than an endless loop of abstract images on your computer screen. The visuals seem to dance along with Blondes’ music, as if we’re seeing a manifestation of the innerworkings of each machine that helped create “Hater.” The NYC outfit will bring these same engrossing dancefloor sounds to San Francisco’s Donuts party on Saturday, April 30, the details of which you can check out here.
