Rekids Celebrates Four Years With Panorama Bar Celebration

In only four years, the Rekids imprint has quickly become one of the most respected in the DJ world, releasing only the most impeccable productions from Radio Slave (a.k.a. label founder Matt Edwards), Toby Tobias, Luke Solomon, Runaway, and even hard techno king Chris Liebing. In celebration of the label’s four years on top, Berlin’s Panorama Bar will be hosting a party tomorrow night featuring Rekids artists Toby Tobias, Spencer Parker, Radio Slave, and Rob Mello. With new records coming from James Teej and more, the party is sure to continue the label’s ascendance through the ranks of electronic dance music.

The Rekids Birthday Night happens May 29 at Panorama Bar in Berlin.

Memoryhouse “Lately (Teengirl Fantasy Remix)”

The hazy sounds propagated by so-called “dream-pop” bands are a perfect fit for their like-minded counterparts in the “chillwave” and other similarly lo-fi electronic scenes. Canadian duo Memoryhouse (above) lent the elements of its song “Lately” to Oberlin-based Teengirl Fantasy for a remix turn around, and what came out the other side isn’t much like the budding duo’s usual output. Layers of bucolic field recordings set the backdrop for a soft-hearted mix of melodic electronics that swirl around a quietly undulating beat before the boys wash over the mix with a slow-moving filter. It’s not “dream-pop.” It’s not “chillwave.” It’s just cool music. (via Pitchfork)

Visa Problems Force Ricardo Villalobos to Cancel Movement Performances

Tomorrow marks the beginning of Detroit’s annual Movement festival, but it was announced today that attendees will be without the DJ stylings of minimal techno don Ricardo Villalobos, who Resident Advisor reports had problems obtaining his US work visa. Given that Villalobos has been notoriously reluctant to play in the US—his last Detroit appearance came in 2002—these developments are particularly disheartening. And Villalobos isn’t alone in his visa troubles—Germany’s Marcel Dettmann has also been forced to cancel an appearance at an off-Movement event in Detroit this weekend. Yet it’s not all bad news out of the Movement camp—in addition to headlining the opening night of the festival as Plastikman, Richie Hawtin will be replacing Villalobos at both the festival and at an off-site party at Voyage Royale.

Fabric London: Business as Usual

Earlier in the week, Ben Watt’s Twitter feed announced that the staff at London clubs Fabric and Matter (of the same ownership) had been made redundant, crediting only a “reliable source.” We’ve just received official word that Fabric remains open and is conducting its business as usual, with a full list of events for the month ahead below. Matter, on the other hand, will remain closed throughout the summer.

Mona Wins XLR8R’s ‘Drop the Lime Drops By’ Contest

Over six months ago, XLR8R teamed up with Bacardi’s B-Live program to bring you the “Drop the Lime Drops By” contest in celebration of his single for the alcohol brand-cum-music label, “Devil’s Eyes.” The idea: write in and tell Drop the Lime why you know the perfect place for him to perform, and the winner will be handpicked by Luca Venezia himself. Well, you guys submitted your entries, and Mona of Greenpoint, Brooklyn was treated to an epic birthday party from Drop the Lime and his bass-toting Trouble & Bass crew. We’ve got the footage of the awesome event up, too. Also, you can check out “Drive-In,” another bit of B-Live tune work from hyperactive Canadian party-starters Thunderheist, here, and good ol’ DTL’s remix of that jam here.

Blondes “Spanish Fly (Brenmar Remix)”

Brooklyn live-electronics outfit Blondes is set to make good on the large amount of hype and attention it has received lately with the release of the duo’s debut EP, Touched, available June 28 via Merok. The original version of “Spanish Fly” will be part of the record’s five tracks, but this remix from These Are Powers member and hotly tipped producer Brenmar (above) is an entity all unto itself. He warped Blondes’ distinct proto-acid-house style into more of a rubbery future-house/UK funky tune tailor-made for the world’s more bass-minded dance floors. (via Discobelle)

Memory Tapes “Bicycle (Tanlines Remix)”

On this upbeat remix, Brooklyn’s tropically minded dance-pop duo Tanlines (above) have rearranged the pieces of Memory TapesSeek Magic single “Bicycle.” A bouncing 8-bit dance beat kicks off the track before loads of percussive sounds and the original vocal melody are introduced. A booming percussion noise slams from one ear to the other throughout the song’s four minutes, initially sounding a bit out of place and overbearing but ultimately fits better in the mix once Tanlines’ rework turns into a joyously straightforward club tune. Jimmy Edgar “JNS-2000”

An exclusive track from Jimmy Edgar, “JNS-2000” leans more on the 27-year-old producer’s instrumental techno side. Sure, the globe-trotting music maker throws in some chopped-up, tweaked vocal sounds, but they are only present to serve as more of a loose melodic element to weave between his track’s slow-grooving bassline and repetitious, hard-knocking dance beat. The tune is a great predecessor to Edgar’s upcoming “Hush” 12″ for GLASSTABLE, and his new full-length album, XXX, coming June 21 via !K7.

The Pack Ready to ‘Party’ on Sophomore Album for SMC

Berkeley-based hip-hop phenoms Lil Uno, Lil B, and Young L (a.k.a. The Pack) have dropped their affiliations with Jive to release a follow-up to 2007’s Based Boys album on SMC in August. SMC CEO Will Bronson said of his recent deal with The Pack, “I tried signing The Pack when ‘Vans’ broke but how could I compete with Too $hort? The Pack has always been ahead of the curve and with this new album, the songs are stellar and they’ve truly evolved into stars. We’ve got so much in store for these guys, it’s incredible.” The new album, entitled Wolfpack Party, seems to find the group experimenting with new sounds and styles far from their breakout hit, “Vans,” as heard on this behind-the-scenes video featuring bits of The Pack’s new single, “Wolfpack Party 2010,” in the background, below. You can also download the single here.
