Kerri Chandler’s been on decks since the age of 9 and producing tracks since 15–and has been a house icon since his first early ’90s releases. The Southport Weekender festival’s been going for 20 years, attracting thousands each year. Put the two together and it would be harder to screw up than succeed. Predictably (in the best way possible), Chandler has mixed two discs of sterling deep house, one disc more minimal than the other. On both, though, Chandler’s penchant for soul (check “Life Starts Today” by Byron Moore and “(We Had) A Thing” by Abstract Truth) shines through. Weekend, schmeekend–these discs sound good anytime.
