Opal Tapes got its start two years ago as a DIY tape label, but has quickly built momentum with an enviable release schedule. Headed by Stephen Bishop (a.k.a. Basic House), issues from the UK-based outfit and its newer, vinyl-only Black Opal subsidiary register across a wide spectrum of homebrewed, lo-fi electronics, from the warped synth tunings of 1991 to Lumisokea’s saturated, greyscale industrials. And yesterday, the label quietly posted up a new compilation. Cambiare is Opal Tapes’ third compilation to date, and intersperses contributions from standing affiliates such as Yves de May, Karen Gwyer, and Holver with new additions like Worker/Parasite and D.Å.R.F.D.H.S.

The compilation extends across 14 tracks (listed below), and can be previewed on Bandcamp and purchased for £1.

Berlin producer Phon.o will return to the Modeselektor helmed 50 Weapons imprint next week with Cracking Space Pt. 2, the second EP in a series dedicated to digging through the “deeper end of dance music.” Pulled from the three-track effort is “Whi5tleblower,” a dense, booming cut which has received a fittingly dark video treatment.

While its title is in part a reference to famed NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, Phon.o’s production here is a finely detailed effort, one which brings together brooding atmospheres and deep, swelling chords atop a continuous series of rugged rhythmic structures. The track’s accompanying video focuses on a series of morphing geometric shapes, the complex angles and configurations of which move along with the music, as do the darkened shades of grey and green which stretch across the three-dimensional surfaces. Created by visual artist and designer Christian Korndörfer, the full video for “Whi5tleblower” can be watched below before Cracking Space Pt. 2 sees an official release on June 6.

In truth, Jokers of the Scene had fallen pretty far off the XLR8R radar prior to the Toronto duo’s recent announcement that it would soon be releasing a new LP, End Scene (artwork above). The pair followed up that news with a couple of hallucinatory videos, and this week, the vinyl version of the record was issued jointly by the Throne of Blood and New Kanada. The digital version won’t appear until June 10, and a limited-edition companion cassette is also in the works via Mount Analog, but it’s still possible to hear End Scene online, as a full stream of the album has surfaced on the web. The LP is streaming in full at SPIN, and even a cursory listen to its 12 tracks will reveal just how much Jokers of the Scene has expanded its sound palette and musical vision. End Scene contains ambient explorations, plenty of nods of classic house and techno, and even a bit of ’80s nostalgia; more importantly, it’s most likely the best thing Jokers of the Scene has ever done.

With summer around the corner, the line-up for New York’s upcoming MoMA PS1 Warm Up series has been revealed. Running weekly from June 28 to September 6, this year’s Warm Up sessions look particularly strong with artists like Pantha du Prince, Todd Edwards (pictured above), Robert Hood, Simian Mobile Disco, Martyn, Lone, Sophie, Jam City, Objekt, Archie Pelago, George FitzGerald, Leon Vynehall, and many others slated to perform. In addition, a number of budding talents have also been tapped, including the likes of recent Berlin transplant Avalon Emerson, NYC artist Aurora Halal, and recent Ghostly signing Matrixxman appearing on the bill for the Long Island City museum’s outdoor summer music series.

Former XLR8Rpodcast contributor and Wedidit member Groundislava has announced plans to release his third LP, accompanying the news with a stream of new single “Feel the Heat.” The LA artist’s new track is a neon-striped production which features LA vocalist Rare Times, and will serve as the title track to the Feel the Heat EP, which will see a release on June 24. The new tune also serves as the first single from Groundislava’s forthcoming Frozen Throne LP, which is set to see a release later this fall via Wedidit/Friends of Friends.

While we await more details on the SoCal producer’s upcoming third full-length effort, the sleek, vocal-led “Feel the Heat” track can be streamed in full below, where the tracklist for Groundislava’s EP of the same name has also been included.

Back in April, Anthony Naples teased his first release of 2014—a four-track EP for The Trilogy Tapes label—with a stream of EP cut “Perro.” Though further details of Naples’ upcoming effort are still yet to surface, the Brooklyn producer has now shared “More Problem,” another track from the forthcoming record. Built around thick piano chords, Naples’ new production is a dark-and-heavy house track, one built atop booming drum machine rhythms and covered with thick layers of delay.

Naples’ upcoming, as-yet-untitled EP is expected to drop via Trilogy Tapes before the end of May. In the meantime, “More Problem” can be heard in full below.

Helmed by LA producer/DJ Kastle, the Symbols label is set to celebrate its two-year anniversary with Parables Volume 2, a 15-track compilation featuring new tracks from regular contributors and friends of the imprint. Incorporating productions from B-Ju, Druid Cloak, and Kline, among others, the upcoming collection will host a variety of electronic hybrids that highlight the diverse sounds the label has ventured into while building its catalog.

In addition to the release of Parables Volume 2 on June 10, Symbols has teamed up with Los Angeles event crew and retailer The Well to throw a show celebrating the label’s two-year anniversary on June 4. After announcing the forthcoming arrival of his self-titled EP for Aus earlier this month, the stylistically prolific UK producer Youandewan (a.k.a. Ewan Smith) has now shared b-side “FM Jam” as well as Detroit veteran Andres‘ take on the track. Smith’s original is a smooth-rolling house tune that features a prominently groovy bass line which Andres accentuates further in his treatment, adding a more complex notes, smooth vocals, and a loungey vibe to the proceedings. Both versions of “FM Jam” are available to stream in full via the player below before Youandewan’s eponymous EP drops on June 16.
