Pulled from a new remix collection, minimal stalwart Ricardo Villalobos (pictured above) and frequent studio partner Max Loderbauer have extended Wolfgang Haffner‘s “Melodia del Viento” into an 18-minute excursion through techno abstraction. Slated to appear on Haffner’s Remixed EP for Rockets & Ponies—which also includes reworks by Timo Maas and Nightmares on Wax, among others—Villalobos’ and Loderbauer’s take on the veteran jazz drummer’s composition traverses through a number of sonic spaces during the course of its run, while still maintaining a steady roll beneath its layers of granulated percussion, pitched vocals, and generously manipulated piano notes.

While the 12″ version of Haffner’s Remixed EP is out now, the record will see a full digital release on May 5. In the meantime, the complete 18-minute “Melodia del Viento (Ricardo Villalobos & Max Loderbauer Remix)” production can be streamed below.

After announcing the forthcoming release of its seventh studio album last month, Veteran London production duo Plaid has launched an interactive web app to tease album cut “Tether.” Developed alongside jonobr1—creator of the Patapat web app—Plaid’s application is said to “visually interpret the sonic intricacies of the track,” using “a series of graphic shapes that gradually evolve as the music progresses,” and which can also be manipulated by viewers by clicking and dragging one’s mouse, or, if watching on a tablet, by touching the screen.

The interactive web app for “Tether” can be found here. Plaid’s upcoming Reachy Prints LP, from which the track is pulled, will see an official release on May 20 via Warp.

There are a lot of similarities between Snoop Dogg and Dâm Funk, which makes their pairing such a natural one. Last year, they released 7 Days of Funk, an ode to Angeleno funk filled with classic vibes and old-school soul. Now, out of nowhere, Chicago footwork mavens DJ Rashad and DJ Spinn, alongside Bay Area upstart Taso, have jumped into the equation, operating together as Teklife to deliver a sped-up and frenetic remix of Snoop Dogg’s and Dâm Funk’s “Do My Thang.” The result somehow keeps the laid back cool of the original while simultaneously juking along in the upper stratosphere of the BPM spectrum. The single is currently available for sale on iTunes (via Stones Throw), with a full stream available below.

Though it only has a discography of five records, London label Lobster Theremin has quickly carved out a niche for itself. It’s sound is noisy and abrasive, with rugged hardware-centric tones provided by the likes of Palm Trax, Steve Murphy, and Snow Bone. Now, however, the label is diversifying by starting a more techno-focused offshoot imprint called the Black Label series. The first EP comes courtesy of Manse, an Opal Tapes veteran, who sets the tone with LTBLK001, which features three booming prime time tracks which are described by a press release as, “Shed-meets-Trade-meets-Oake.” The EP is scheduled to drop in vinyl form on May 5; in the meantime, the record can be previewed below. Following his recent contribution to our Locals Only feature, Norwegian producer Prins Thomas has launched a new imprint called Rett I Fletta—the third label to be added to his catalog, alongside Full Pupp and budding offshoot Internasjonal. With cover art designed by Doug Lee, the label’s first release is an EP by Thomas himself entitled Blusjketuta, which will arrive shortly after his forthcoming LPIII, out on April 28. Last week, Berlin label Ostgut Tonannounced that the next installment in its Panorama Bar mix series would come from Berghain and Panorama Bar resident Ryan Elliot, while also hinting that the label would “move away from the CD format” when the new session arrived in July. Now, Ostgut Ton has revealed plans to issue all further mixes as free downloads, beginning with Elliot’s forthcoming effort.

Revealed as part of Resident Advisor’s The Life and Death of the Mix CD article, the Berlin outpost has explained that it plans to release a few online mixes from both the Berghain and Panorama Bar series throughout the year which the label promises to keep “heavy on exclusives and released infrequently enough to keep them special.” The forthcoming mixes will be available to download for free, which will allow the label to use a more flexible licensing policy for the tracks included in the various mixes. In the course of the article, the label goes on to further explain that the free downloads will provide “a clever solution that also takes the money out of the equation entirely, making the product a labor of love (and a handy promotional item) rather than something to make a buck from.” Ryan Elliot’s Panorama Bar 06 will launch the free digital series when it sees a release sometime in July.

Berghain resident and MDR label head Marcel Dettmann has delivered the latest Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1. Initially aired on Saturday, Dettmann’s session is a two-hour exploration of Berghain itself which he says reflects both the opening hours on Saturday evening, and the peak-time mania of late Sunday morning. As to be expected, it features a relentless stretch of hypnotic techno cuts, like Rolando’s “Time Adjustment,” Laibach’s “Eurovision (Remix),” XDB’s “Ganivon,” and a few selections from Dettmann himself.

With 2011’s The Vision LP for 4AD still standing as his last full-length effort, veteran Bristol producer Joker (a.k.a. Liam McLean) has now implicitly announced the release of his second LP. Though the exact details of the Kapsize outpost founder’s forthcoming album have yet to be fully revealed, McLean has shared a string-tinted production along with the announcement, stating that the track didn’t quite make the cut for his upcoming sophomore full-length.
