UK outfit Wild Beasts recently released its Present Tense LP via Domino, and will soon be following it up with a remix package including treatments from the likes of Djrum, East India Youth, and Lone. Set to drop on May 19, Lone’s contribution to the package can now be heard in full. Here, the industrious producer tones down the beach vibes of Wild Beasts’ “A Simple Beautiful Truth,” focusing his efforts more towards the dancefloor and bringing up the BPM to match his trademark glowing synths, rapid claps, and full-bodied low-end tones. Lone’s forthcoming rework is available to stream in full below.

Baltimore house legend Karizma has shared a pair of new edits which are now free to download. The first offered is a retouch of Sade’s “Love Is Stronger Than Pride,” which teases out the song’s jazzy elements and fits them over a clap-heavy rhythm. The second refixes Quincy Jones’ cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Superwoman (Where Were You When I Needed You).” Here, Karizma takes a more conventional approach, looping the song’s dreamy Rhodes chords and jazz guitars over big East Coast house drums. The main forces behind the always inventive Deepblak label, Aybee and Afrikan Sciences, have announced plans to release a new collaborative album this summer. The forthcoming Sketches of Space LP—named in part as an homage to Miles Davis’ classic Sketches of Spain album—is said to be comprised of six live jam sessions recorded over a three-year span in both Berlin (where Aybee resides) and Oakland (the home base for Afrikan Sciences). Still, the record’s announcement is quick to point out that the music contained within Sketches of Space does not remix or in any way reinterpret the work of Miles Davis, rather the pair see the LP’s title as a way of “honoring [Davis’] pioneering spirit, from which this project drew fuel.” Furthermore, the pair point to the “free-flowing vibes of the ’70s jazz-fusion era” as a large source of inspiration for Sketches of Space, specifically the jazz scene’s early experimentations with electronic instruments.

Described as “wild, cosmic, and smooth at times,” the results of Aybee’s and Afrikan Sciences’ joint jam sessions can be heard in full when Sketches of Space sees a release sometime in July. Before then, the record’s artwork and tracklist are included below. (via Resident Advisor)

After officially announcing the release of his forthcoming third solo album, Ultima II Massage, for Ghostly back in February, eccentric Black Moth Super Rainbow frontman Tobacco (a.k.a. Thomas Fec) has now shared a disturbing video for album opener “Streaker.” Directed by the multi-talented Eric Wareheim, with the help of Notrabel, the nauseating piece takes Fec’s affinity for the super creepy to new heights. Beginning with a bizarre infomercial introducing the viewer to a very particular kind of massage clinic, the camera then remains in a “point of view” angle, guiding viewers from one deranged room to the next. What follows is an unsettling band of masked naked people writhing and unnaturally traversing about, as the track’s harshly distorted vocals, off-key synth pads, and thrashing noise guitars only encourage the madness.

After learning yesterday about the launch of Lobster Theremin‘s new Black Label series of releases, the imprint has now announced plans to drop a four-track effort from Palms Trax next month. Coming backed with a remix by Galcher Lustwerk, the forthcoming Forever EP is said to find Palms Trax (a producer we picked as an artist to watch earlier this year) “rising from the vintage grooves of his [debut] Equation EP” and appearing in a “much more raucous form” on the record’s three new original productions.

Dropping on May 5, the Berlin-via-London artist’s upcoming effort will also inaugurate a white label series for Lobster Theremin, though few details have emerged as to what all the label has planned for that series. In the meantime, Palms Trax’s Forever EP can be previewed via the player below.

Last month, Bok Bok dropped the Kelela-featuring single “Melba’s Call,” a stuttering and futuristic tune released via his own Night Slugs label. Now, Bok Bok has announced plans to follow up that 10″ with a proper EP titled Your Charizmatic Self, which will serve as the London producer’s first multi-track work since 2011’s Southside EP.

The upcoming seven-track effort is said to be thematically set inside the studio featured in the “Melba’s Call” music video (that same studio also appears on the upcoming EP’s artwork), using sonic elements like harsh reverbs to connote the concrete walls of the bunker-like music suite and warmer samples to express the interior jungle flora. Bok Bok’s Your Charizmatic Self EP is out on May 26; in the meantime, its album art and tracklist (which includes the original and instrumental version of “Melba’s Call”) have been included below.

Back in 2012, Braiden delivered an excellent edition of the XLR8R podcast. At the time, he was living in London, DJing regularly on Rinse FM, and had only a single 12″ and a handful of remixes in his discography. Since then, things have changed quite a bit, as he now resides in Berlin, holds down a weekly slot on NTS Radio, and has added a 12″ on Rush Hour to his repertoire. Though he continues to maintain a fairly low profile, there’s no question that the man is busy, and today, he’s put together a new mix for the Juno Plus podcast series. Along with the mix, the original post includes a quick interview with the UK-born producer and DJ, in which he discusses his recent relocation, DJing, and what he’s got planned on the production front.
