Preview Every Track from Legowelt’s Upcoming ‘Crystal Cult 2080’ Album

With the details of Dutch synth wizard Legowelt‘s forthcoming Crystal Cult 2080 LP now out in the world, all fans can do is wait until the 12-track record drops late next month via Crème Organization. However, the label has thankfully seen fit to help us bide that time with a substantial album teaser, sharing sizable clips of each of Legowelt’s new productions. The 24-minute preview of Crystal Cult 2080 dives headfirst into the misty baths of digital synthesis sloshing around each song, and quickly proves that the producer born Danny Wolfers wasn’t joking when he said that he loved his Roland JV2080 synth for its “mysterious, interesting sounds.”

DUST “1515”

New York event promoters and fledgling record label Sisterjam has teamed up with Bushwick hotspot Bossa Nova Civic Club for a new compilation which highlights unreleased material from up-and-coming Brooklyn producers. Lifted from Bushwick is Melting Volume 1, DUST‘s “1515” is a thundering powerhouse full of elastic rhythms and acid-drenched synth tones, and closes out a record featuring contributions from Jacques Renault and Mark Verbos, L.I.E.S. affiliate Marcos Cabral, and visual artist Aurora Halal, whose “Hazy G” track marks her first official release. Bushwick is Melting Volume 1 will be available as a vinyl and digital package on February 13.

Watch the Video for Jerome LOL’s New “Deleted” Single

Jerome LOL, the SoCal producer behind last week’s patently unusual XLR8R podcast, dropped his Deleted/Fool EP via Friends of Friends today, and to mark the occasion, has shared a new, computer-centric video for lead track “Deleted.” Using a concept very similar to that utilized in the breakout video for LOL Boys’ “Changes,” Jerome LOL’s self-directed clip finds him flipping through a number of images, short clips, and visual FX on his own computer desktop as the swinging, blue-streaked track runs its course. The video for “Deleted” can be watched below.

Novation Gives Away 1GB Sample Pack, Announces Producer Competition

As part of a newly launched competition, UK synth and controller designer Novation is giving away a 1GB sample pack of “loops, single hits, multi-sampled patches, and drum kits from its unforgettable and modern classic synths.” The so-called “Heritage Sample Pack” is free to download and is intended to be used by producers for making a track—along with other sounds, if one so chooses—as their entry to Novation’s competition, which will give three winners their choice of the company’s Bass Station II, MiniNova, or UltraNova synths. Submissions to the contest are due by March 4, and will be judged by Novation and a number of professional producers—including Paul Hartnoll of Orbital, Sneaker Pimps’ Liam Howe, Eats Everything, and Timo Maas.

Le Motel “Right Business”

Hailing from Brussels, Belgian producer Le Motel has soaked up plenty of inspiration from the Chicago-born juke sound. Appearing as the final cut on the man’s upcoming three-track 45°34°50° EP, “Right Business” is a particularly jazz-infused introduction to the producer’s footwork-informed craft, one which aligns a number of blistering 150-plus bpm rhythms with found-sound percussion, a droning Rhodes chord, and the dusty slide of an upright bass. Le Motel’s full EP is expected to drop very soon via burgeoning LA imprint TAR.

The Cyclist Shares New Video and Mix as Buz Ludzha

On the back of last year’s excellent Bones in Motion LP, we deemed Liverpool-based producer Andrew Morrison (a.k.a. The Cyclist) one of the Best New Artists of 2013. Now, Morrison has launched another project, operating as Buz Ludzha on an upcoming 12″ for Dublin label All City and sharing a video for the record’s a-side along with a new mix. The forthcoming “Rave with Love” b/w “Basslines for Death” single will be the first in a series of three 12″s Buz Ludzha has scheduled for the Irish imprint this year, with the project’s sound said to focus on “distorted ’80s house vibes.”

AIAIAI and Stones Throw Partner for Special-Edition Headphones

Danish headphone designer AIAIAI has partnered with venerable Los Angeles label Stones Throw to release a special edition of its TMA-1 DJ headphones. The new take on AIAIAI’s flagship headphone model will come with an embossed Stones Throw logo on the outside of each ear cup and—for the first 300 who place an order—a special 7″ from the label featuring unreleased cuts by Stones Throw head Peanut Butter Wolf and the imprint’s resident G-funk maestro Dâm-Funk.

The TMA-1 Stones Throw Edition headphones and accompanying 7″ are set to hit stores on February 12, but can be pre-ordered now over on the Stones Throw Store.

DJ Harvey, John Talabot, Mount Kimbie, James Holden, and More Announced for Unknown 2014

In anticipation for its second year, Croatia’s Unknown festival has announced the first wave of acts set to perform in Rovinj between September 8 and September 12. Featuring the likes of Forest Swords, DJ Harvey, John Talabot, Mount Kimbie (pictured above), Jackmaster, Bicep, Dusky, Simian Mobile Disco, Optimo, James Holden, Michael Mayer, Joy Orbison, and many more, the festivities will take place across an assortment of locales, including “daytime and evening events on boats, by the pool, deep in the forest, and on nearby islands.” With art production spearheaded by Mad Ferret and Unit 44, the week-long affair prides itself on offering a fully immersive experience in remote locations. Listen to a Collaborative Track from Four Tet and Jamie xx

No strangers to collaboration, UK DJ/producers Four Tet and Jamie xx (pictured above) broadcasted a back-to-back DJ mix on Sydney’s FBi Radio during the Young Turks takeover just yesterday, using their time to share a selection of exclusive and unreleased material. Among those never-before-heard tracks was a tune jointly crafted by the two mixmasters, a soft-focus jam called “Seesaw.” Four Tet’s and Jamie xx’s production features a bit of woozy synth work, a straightforward drum pattern, and some gauzy vocal melodies throughout its four-minute run, all of which makes for an inviting cut of understated dancefloor music. There are no details as to an official release of “Seesaw” yet, but a radio rip of the tune can nonetheless be streamed in full below; the rest of the Young Turks takeover on FBi Radio can be heard here.

Druid Cloak “Frostmane”

Anonymous producer Druid Cloak just sent over “Frostmane,” an elegant production lifted from Folie Douce’s recent Cold Confessions compilation. His contribution pushes the same ethereal tone as the rest of the icy release, harnessing an array of elements—like bright textures brushed against a monosyllabic vocal loop, heavy drum breaks, and waves of arctic synths—into the meticulous composition. The rest of Cold Confessions includes productions from the likes of P. Morris (the new moniker of Morri$), Jubilee, S-Type, and DJ Paypal, among others, and can be heard in its entirety after the jump.
