Next week, Anu Pillai (a.k.a. Freeform Five) will release his “Leviathan” single via Belgium’s Eskimo label. Featuring the talents of Irish vocalist Róisín Murphy (of Moloko fame), the single will also come backed with a pair of remixes from Dutch house maven Tom Trago—both of which can now be heard exclusively on XLR8R ahead of their release.

Turning in both a straight-up remix along with a dub version of the tune, Trago spins Pillai’s sweeping original into a more grounded affair, one anchored by a low-reaching bassline and unrelenting layers of airy percussion. Both of Trago’s contributions to the “Leviathan” single can be streamed in full before the 12″—which features additional remixes from Freeform Five himself, Compuphonic, and Cage & Aviary—officially drops on February 10.

Seeing as how 2014 marks the 10th year of Hyperdub‘s existence, the Kode9-helmed label has some special celebratory plans in the works, but before those details are announced, the boss man himself (pictured above), Chicago footwork don DJ Rashad, and UK DJ/producer Ikonika will all soon embark on a handful of performances in select North American cities.

Kicking off tomorrow night in Connecticut, DJ Rashad’s tour will find him jump from the East Coast to the West Coast and back again, with a couple of stops in Mexico and Canada. Ikonika’s North American stint looks quite similiar, though she’ll start on March 6 in Massachusetts before hopping around Canada, Texas, Florida, New York, California, and others. Finally, Kode9’s upcoming dates would be hard-pressed to qualify as a tour, seeing as he’s only scheduled to appear in Miami for Winter Music Conference on March 27 and Memorial Day Weekend for Detroit’s Movement Festival. Late last year, Strut announced it would release a double-disc retrospective of pioneering Chicago house label Dance Mania. Now, with the comprehensive Hardcore Traxx compilation set to drop next week, a new mini-doc has surfaced which chronicles the history of the imprint. Built around a new set of interviews with Dance Manica label head Ray Barney and veteran Chicago producers/DJs Parris Mitchell, Duane Buford, and Wax Master, the 15-minute clip follows the creation of the label out of a brick-and-mortar record store (pictured above) and its role in establishing the “ghetto-house” sound. The full documentary can be watched below before the Hardcore Traxx retrospective sees its official release on February 11.

After issuing its debut LP as Heterotic last year, the collaborative husaband-and-wife project of Planet Mu label boss Mike Paradinas (a.k.a. ?-Ziq) and Lara Rix-Martin will issue its sophomore album in April. Extensively featuring the talents of French vocalist Vezelay, the forthcoming Weird Drift LP is said to offer a set of “confident and thoughtful pop songs” which continue to “retain the sleepy cushion of steamy synth pop that made the [groups ‘] first record so rewarding to listen to.”

Heterotic’s upcoming 12-track effort will be preceeded by the group’s Rain EP, which was first announced last month and is set to drop on February 25. It feels like it was ages ago when a young Southern California beatmaker by the name of Mtendere Mandowa dropped his first official full-length as Teebs via Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder imprint, wowing just about everyone who heard Ardour with the crunchy, autumnal splendor of its glowing beats. And though the producer has been anything but quiet in the three-plus years since that record dropped, his insatiable fans have undoubtedly all been waiting for the moment he announced his follow-up album. Burgeoning Cardiff production duo Bodhi has announced its signing to Doc Daneeka‘s Ten Thousand Yen label for the pair’s next release, a three-track EP called I Need You. The forthcoming record—which is described as a “collection of rough and ready, yet soul-burning dancefloor bombs”—will follow Bodhi’s previous singles for Australian outpost Future Classic and Sinden’s Grizzly imprint when it drops on March 17. Before international upstart label White Asega drops the upcoming four-track 12″ from Fifth Wall co-founder Hound Scales early next week, we’re pleased to share with our readers a full stream of that record’s “exploration into the darker midnight reaches of house and techno.” The Sabbath Lillie Hawks EP is a rough and rugged journey through warehouse-ready dance music, and finds the Brooklyn up-and-comer weaving ghostly synths and smoky atmospheres around the mechanical churn of his beats. Hound Scales’ upcoming release also features an equally powerful remix of EP cut “Thinner” from shapeshifting UK outfit Forward Strategy Group alongside his three original productions—all of which can be streamed before they’re released on February 10, below.
