Journey back with us for a moment to just over one year ago, when XLR8R included a little-known anonymous producer named DIVA in our list of new artists to watch, a decision we made more or less based on one exciting EP released at the end of 2012 via the solid New Kanada label. Call us overeager or call us too forward-thinking, DIVA unfortunately remained quiet throughout 2013, but that silence is now over. The producer has unveiled himself as Matt Didemus, half of Canadian synth-pop duo Junior Boys, and announced that he’ll soon inaugurate his own label with a compilation featuring the first new music from DIVA since 2012.

Called Obsession, Didemus’ label aims to “explore the outer reaches of visceral club music, equal parts dancefloor introspection and sonic extrospection,” according to a press release. Its first record will be a sampler featuring tracks from Iron Galaxy & Sexlife, Yør, Primitive World, and DIVA himself, and is scheduled to drop in “early March.” We currently have no other details on the release, but we do have a clip of DIVA’s upcoming contribution, a clattering and mechanical cut of techno called “Judas,” which can be heard below.

Doc Daneeka, the Welshman behind last year’s “Walk On In” (a big tune which came in as one of our top tracks of 2013), has delivered a new mix entitled Music to… Warm Up Your Week. Accompanying i-D Magazine‘s quick interview with the Berlin-based DJ/producer/Ten Thousand Yen label head, the 40-minute mix covers the more soul-burnt ends of bass-minded house music; territory which has grown increasingly prevalent in Doc Daneeka’s work. The full set can be streamed below, but, unfortunately at this time, without an accompanying tracklist to help us navigate its choice selections. Jerome LOL‘s first solo EP, Deleted/Fool, is set to drop next week via the Friends of Friends label, but before then, the four-track record is now available to stream in full. Incorporating a pair of vocal collaborators in Angelina Lucero and Sara Z, Deleted/ Fool sees the noted LA producer/DJ (not to mention Body High label co-head) exploring the possibilities of the vocal-led and pop-streaked ends of swinging house. Before its official release on February 4, Jerome LOL’s upcoming EP can be heard in its entirety courtesy of Pitchfork Advance.

Having turned in tunes alongside Morri$, Just Blaze, and—most recently—L-Vis 1990, Sinjin Hawke continues his collaborative run with a new production and video made with New Jersey ballroom mainstay MikeQ. Appearing as part of Hawke’s ongoing Fractal Fantasy series (the last installment of which was the intriguing “Flash Alert” collaboration with L-Vis 1990), the video for “Thunderscan” puts the morphing capabilities of a weightless silver liquid (basically, the stuff Alex Mack would somehow turn into) on display, as the pair’s unaplogetically hard-edged piece of futuristic club music bounces and booms. British artist Kieran Hebden (a.k.a. Four Tet) has been keeping an especially high profile this winter, sampling Thriller to make a beat in 10 minutes, sharing his Live in Tokyo mix, and giving away 15 unreleased tunes to celebrate reaching 100K Twitter followers. Now, the influential producer has offered up another free mix of eccentric house cuts. Titled 1234567890qwertyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnm (DJ mix JAN 2014), the hour-long DJ set should be familiar territory for Four Tet fans, as it continues to explore Hebden’s fascination with skewed, mildly abrasive house and bass-influenced styles. A full stream and free download of the new Four Tet mix—which, so far, has no tracklist whatsoever—can be found below.

Founder of the venerable Hyperdub label, Steve Goodman (a.k.a. Kode9) has unleashed a brand-new mix to stream and download. The mixmaster describes his milestone DJ set for Resident Advisor‘s 400th podcast as “a prism,” noting that “as you rotate it, you get a glimpse of what presses my buttons.” This eclectic arrangement features sounds from the likes of Rustie, DJ Rashad, Cashmere Cat, David Sylvian & Ryuichi Sakamoto, and a remix of Mssingno’s sleeper hit “XE2” by Bieldub, all of which seem to perfectly reflect the various trends that Kode9 himself has referenced throughout his production career and work with Hyperdub.
