Hivern, the John Talabot-helmed record label, is poised to release a series of 12″s featuring uncredited cuts from the outpost’s pool of producers. Since 2008, the label has built a roster that now boasts Teengirl Fantasy, Aster, New Jackson, Pional, the label head himself, and others—artists who are all potential candidates for Hivern’s forthcoming Blanc records. Each single-sided, “white-label” release will be limited to 100 copies, and will only be available from the imprint’s online store and select record stores. The first offering, “It’s All Over,” is a subdued house track steeped in moody vocals, pinprick percussion, and bubbling atmospheres, and is available to stream in the player below. Hivern will release the 12″ on April 22.

Yesterday, we shared the latest video from Yours Truly‘s Songs from Scratch series, in which Montreal’s Jacques Greene worked with vocalist Tinashe to create a new track. Now, the pair’s collaborative tune, called “Painted Faces,” is streaming in full. At this point, there is no indication whether or not this sultry song might be made available for download (like Shlohmo’s and Jeremih’s contribution was), but the R&B-heavy tune can nonetheless be heard via the player below.

While Southampton-based singer/producer Tropics readies his forthcoming Home & Consonance EP, he’s shared its first single, the lovesick “Don’t You Know.” The artist born Chris Ward says he wrote his latest batch of music to reflect the compatibility of harmony and sadness. “Lyrically, the tracks are about being away from the ones you love, and the confusion of lust and love. It’s emotional and upbeat, but also aims to be sordid in parts,” he explains. Tropics goes on to say how he shifted his focus from composing music fit for daytime parties to songs more appropriate for late night listening: “Parodia Flare, my first album, had nostalgic, summer days in mind, whereas this is something for those summer nights after the sun goes down, when the earth under your feet is still hot.” Before Five Easy Pieces releases the Home & Consonance EP on April 22, the record’s artwork, tracklist, and lead single can be found below.

West Coast bass wrangler Grenier has self-released the third record in his ongoing Voids series, offering the 13-track effort as a “name your price” download and sharing a list of US tour dates alongside its release. As we pointed out in last year’s Bubblin’ Up profile of the California artist, Grenier’s Voids series has resulted in some of his most adventerous and rewarding work in between releases with labels such as Frite Nite, Tectonic, and Symbols. Having just unleashed its behemoth of a fourth LP on the world via Mute, Swedish brother-sister duo The Knife is now giving its fans a 13-minute short film called The Interview, a piece which is actually an extremely rare (not to mention artfully executed) video interview with Karin Dreijer-Andersson and Olof Dreijer about Shaking the Habitual. As should be expected, The Interview isn’t your typical video interview. For instance: The Knife never blatantly show their faces, and much of the accompanying footage looks as if it was randomly shot by the bandmates themselves. The pair also talks in concise statements—touching on the creative process that went into making Shaking the Habitual, the concepts about politics and identity which drive the record’s themes, and how they view themselves as “privileged” artists and musicains, among other interesting topics. Detroit techno pioneer Carl Craig has been tapped to deliver the next edition of Ministry of Sound‘s Masterpiece mix series. Joining the likes of Andrew Weatherall, Gilles Peterson, and François K, Craig’s forthcoming installment—like the others before it—will be presented across three CDs; the first showcasing the veteran DJ/producer’s musical influences, the second comprising tunes Craig is currently playing out, and the third being a mix made entirely of his own new productions. Though no tracklist has surfaced yet, we do know that Craig’s contribution to the prestigious Masterpiece series will drop on June 3.

Night Slugs mainstay Jam City has taken to Twitter to offer a package of over 20 unreleased tracks as a free download. Called Memories… Of How it Used to Be, the DJ/producer’s ZIP file was posted to SendSpace with the simple message, “Some music for you,” so we’re not entirely sure when these tracks were made or why they never saw an official release. We do know, however, that they can be downloaded now for absolutely no cost, here. (The 320kbps MP3s can be downloaded in two parts, here and here.)

It hasn’t been that long since we were officially made aware of the upcoming second LP by UK duo Mount Kimbie, Cold Sprint Fault Less Youth, and given its first leak, the energetic dancefloor bubbler “Made to Stray.” Now, with still well over a month before Warp releases Dominic Maker’s and Kai Campos’ next album, we get the trampled soul of “Blood and Form,” Mount Kimbie’s latest single. As “Made to Stray” directly hinted at, “Blood and Form” marks a significant difference between the forthcoming material on Cold Spring Fault Less Youth and the production duo’s excellent debut full-length, Crooks & Lovers—including the heavy use of their own vocals, more straightforward song structures, and less of anything that could vaguely resemble “post-dubstep.” Mount Kimbie’s latest can be streamed in the player below and downloaded ahead of the release of Cold Spring Fault Less Youth along with a iTunes pre-order, here.
