Gremino “Time to Heat it Up”

Gremino‘s latest EP, Let’s Jack (artwork above), doesn’t quite “jack” like a mid-tempo, 909-filled Chicago house track does, but the Finnish producer didn’t set out to make jackin’ Chicago house. He’s the newest addition to Kingdom’s young imprint, Fade to Mind, and thus we should be more prepared to hear his high-octane, bass-heavy productions, which only offer subtle nods to the jackin’ traditions of classic Chicago. “Time to Heat it Up,” a non-EP exclusive, subverts the acid-heavy approach of the EP’s title track; this is a start-and-stop, sample-laden bomb, one that’s mostly devoid of any analog bits. And if we’re to listen to the wise, normalizing words of Chuck Roberts (“No one man [or style] owns house… house is an uncontrollable desire to jack your body”), then yes, Gremino, although more a purveyor of “bass” than of straightforward “house,” still makes music that brings us to jack. Check out the preview stream of the entire EP, which is out now, after the jump.

Video Premiere: Colo “Picture of You”

With less than a month before UK duo Colo drops its debut EP, Midday Sun, the London residents have shared a video for the release’s opening track, “Picture of You.” The self-directed piece is a mix between arty club-scene footage and soft-core gear porn (sure, we see them turning knobs and pressing keys, but you can’t really tell what’s going on). The track itself is a fine example of the kind of melodic, post-everything beats the pair will deliver with its inaugural outing. The Midday Sun EP doesn’t hit the streets until March 12, but, in the meantime, you’ll find the artwork, tracklist, and some track previews below.

Neon Jung “Delirium Tremens (Nathan Fake Remix)”

UK ambient/techno producer Nathan Fake (pictured above) is lending his efforts to the latest release from Neon Jung, supplying this remix of “Delirium Tremens.” Fake’s version is a touch experimental, with spacey synthesizer noises stretching out over a lo-fi kick drum that ebbs in and out of the production. About halfway through, the percussion drops out altogether, leaving only long synth notes and ambient noise for the song’s final four minutes. “Delirium Tremens” is out now via Magic Wire, an imprint headed up by Lone, which has so far only released tunes from Neon Jung (who has also operated under the name Keaver & Brause) and the label boss himself, who has also collaborated with Jung as Kona Triangle.

Lazer Sword to Release Sophomore LP via Monkeytown; Preview it Now

It took the multinational duo Lazer Sword a very long time to release its self-titled debut album, so it’s somewhat of a surprise to discover that Low Limit and Lando Kal will be following that record up less than two years later with its sophomore LP, Memory. Modeselektor’s on-point imprint, Monkeytown, will release the 11-track record, which features collaborations with Jimmy Edgar and Machinedrum, on May 1, but is sharing snippets of new tracks every week until then. Lazer Sword will also be touring the US, UK, and Europe in anticipation of Memory‘s release throughout March, April, and May. Before then, you can check out all of the particulars—including artwork, tracklist, previews, and tour dates—below.

Distal Preps Two Collaborative Releases

Our most recent contributor to the XLR8R podcast series, Atlanta’s Distal (a.k.a. Michael Rathbun), has announced two different collaborative efforts that will be ready for release next month. First up is “Booyant” b/w “Amphibian,” set for a March 5 release via Bristol imprint Tectonic. “Booyant” finds Distal teaming up with Vancouver’s HxdB for a bass-heavy dancefloor bubbler, while the flip side’s “Amphibian” is a quirky 140 bpm solo effort. For those purchasing in digital format, Brooklyn outfit Archie Pelago will also be adding some fun to the release with a swinging, percussive remix of “Booyant.”

Later in March, Rathbun will be releasing a three-song EP of raving juke tunes, Stuck Up Money, featuring Chicago’s DJ Rashad. The record will be dropping via Well Rounded‘s relatively new side label, Individuals. The 12″ is set for a vinyl release on March 20, with a digital release to follow on March 26, but for now, check out the artwork and tracklist, which can be found below.

In addition to these two forthcoming releases, keep an eye out for Distal’s debut full-length album, Civilization, due out on Tectonic sometime in Spring 2012.

Listen to Mouse on Mars’ ‘Parastrophics’ LP Now

If you listen to electronic music and you don’t know who Mouse on Mars is, there might be something wrong with you. German producers Jan St. Werner and Andi Toma have been crafting their unique strain of dubby, glitchy, and oddly catchy experimental music for nearly two decades now, and the number of albums, EPs, and singles the pair has released is even higher than the number of years they’ve been active. After an uncharacteristically long break following 2006’s visceral Varcharz LP, the production outfit has returned with its latest full-length, a 13-track record for Modeselektor’s Monkeytown imprint called Parastrophics, which you can now listen to in full ahead of its release next week.

Presented as one track in the player below, Mouse on Mars’ new album is yet another undiscovered chapter in the group’s saga of rotating influences and challenging output, as contemporary club sounds and unusual source materials are spliced in with crunchy glitch beats, playful synth melodies, and punishing bass frequencies throughout the 46-minute Parastrophics. You can hear it all below, and make sure to look for our extensive feature with St. Werner and Toma when it premieres next week.

Savile “Being (Amadeus ‘In House’ Mix)”

The stateside Rebel blog/label minted a new sister imprint today, Amadeus, with the release of a four-track EP from Chicago resident Savile. The EP features the original mix of “Being,” but this “In House” mix certainly hits the spot, too, as it has just about everything you could ask for in a mellow house number—including funky bass licks, silky chords, and enough hooks to keep this one spinning in your head for days. The vocals are strangely alluring and androgynous in their tone, but irresistibly catchy in their refrain. You’ll find a streaming preview of the rest of Savile’s Being EP, which includes a remix from Leeds producer Youandewan, after the jump.

MK’s and Scottie Deep’s Label to Drop New Si?Ke DJs EP

If you recall from a few months back, we shared the news that MK and Scottie Deep had formed a new label, and called it Say Ahh!. Now, we’ve got even better news: The imprint’s first release is on its way from Si’Ke DJs (pictured above). The Manchester duo has put together a four-track EP for the inaugural record, which is made up of the kind of ’90s-indebted, dancefloor-ready house music that you’d expect from anyone hanging around with the fabled Kinchen brothers. There’s no audio available to share just yet, but you can check out the artwork and tracklist for the Safe House EP before it drops in vinyl format on March 13, followed by a digital release on March 27.

Dro Carey & Andy Petr “Beauty Colder”

Since last year, up-and-coming Sydney imprint Templar Sound has been leading the charge of the Australian bass scene, which continues to grow at a steady clip. The most noteworthy offerings from the fresh label are a pair of releases from burgeoning producer Dro Carey, but releases from Citizen, Skanky, and Grown Folk (to name a few) have been commendable as well. Even though Templar has only been around a short time, apparently the imprint has already found itself with a backlog of unreleased tunes, as it will soon be releasing a 14-song compilation featuring artists who have appeared on the label’s previous six releases. “Beauty Colder,” a Dro Carey and Andy Petr track from the compilation, is a shimmering piece of beat work with a heavy emphasis on chopped and manipulated R&B vocal samples. The tune also features an unusual, halting bass line, skittering percusion, and dreamy synth textures. The Templar Sound compilation is set for a February 27 release date, but before then, take a look at the complete tracklist after the jump, and the album artwork above.

1. The Bennisons – Overcoat (Dead Man Prefix)
2. Dro Carey & Andy Petr – Beauty Colder
3. LOL Boys – Nomads
4. Mokona – Stewardess Rush
5. Dro Carey & Grown Folk – Southern Smoke
6. Mystery DJ – Pumpn Tha Drums
7. Dro Carey ft. Trim – Lose My Head (Numan Remix)
8. Bardeya – Layer B
9. Cromie – For Me
10. Grown Folk – The Come Up
11. Citizen – Unity
12. Hensen – Boss Mei
13. Donalds House – The Boy & His Strumpet
14. Hugo Frederick – Endless Summer (Theme to Caddyshack)

Mano Le Tough to Release “Mountains” 12″ via Permanent Vacation

It would appear that Berlin-based, Bubblin’ Up house producer Mano Le Tough has recently fallen in love with the Swiss Alps. In addition to the photo he sent us for his recent XLR8R podcast, he’s got a new single called “Mountains” on the way. Permanent Vacation will release the three-song record on March 16, but you can check out the artwork and tracklist, as well as preview snippets of each track, before then, below.
