Listen to the New Single by Ramadanman as Maurice Donovan

At the beginning of this year, we shared the stream of a dub version of Julio Bashmore’s “Battle For Middle You” single by Ramadanman, which was oddly credited to one Maurice Donovan. Now, it seems that DJ/producer/label head/musical multi-tasker David Kennedy is officially inaugurating his new alter-ego as a seasoned and surprisingly outspoken Chicago house producer with the release of Donovan’s first 12″. The “Babeh” b/w “Satisfied” single will drop in late April via the SSSSS label. Before then, you can check out the artwork for Kennedy’s record, and stream both vintage house-obsessed tracks, courtesy of FACT, below.

The Clonious “Alter-Ego-Cate”

Vienna-based electronic imprint Affine has a fresh compilation album dropping on April 11, which features hotly tipped productions from label affiliates such as Dorian Concept, JSBL, and, featured here, The Clonious. “Alter-Ego-Cate” is just one of four tracks that Austrian producer contributes to Affine’s What a Fine Mess We Made release, and finds the artist flirting with electronic club sounds from across the board—including juke, forward-thinking house, and plenty of dubstep substrains. See how The Clonious’ tastefully hyped-up production fares alongside the rest of the forthcoming compilation, and check out snippets of its 14 tracks here.

Groundislava “Animal”

The latest member of the West Coast’s burgeoning Wedidit Collective to come forth with new material, Groundislava, has passed along this track from his forthcoming self-titled debut LP (artwork above). “Animal” finds the Venice-based producer staying true to his 8-bit roots to a certain extent, as he manipulates a host of bit-crushed sounds into the kind of dramatic, futuristic beat we’ve come to know him for over the past few months. Fortunately, Groundislava does not stop there, adding depth to the track with layer upon layer of featured vocalist Jake Weary, whose pseudo-neo-soul crooning receives its fare share of sonic tinkering. Whether bathed in reverb, pitched up and down, or side-chained beyond recognition, Weary’s vocals provide a melodic wash that rests nicely on top of the tune’s stony, melancholy core. Groundislava’s self-titled LP is set to drop April 12. You can check the full tracklist after the jump.

Tracklist:
1. Pregaming the Rapture
2. Panorama ft. Jake Weary
3. A Grass Day
4. Young Lava
5. Final Impasse
6. The Dig (Digital + 7″ only)
7. Animal ft. Jake Weary
8. Shlava ft. Shlohmo & JonWayne
9. Stealth River Mission
10. New Flesh (Digital only)
11. Gravity Hoarding ft. Jake Weary
12. One For Her

Poirier Announces New Imprint, Also Records

Quebec’s purveyor of equatorial dance genres, Poirier (pictured above), has announced his brand-new musical endeavor, an imprint called Also Records. The producer’s new label exclusively releases singles, and is “dedicated to making songs from home and abroad available as quickly as possible.” The first of those releases is “ZiggyZa ZiggyZi” by Montreal’s L’Xtrmst.Zen, which you can grab here for $1.00, and watch the video for below.

Akai Synthstation49 iPad Audio Controller

While the iPad has many of us daydreaming about the possibilities that a multi-touch, WiFi-enabled tablet presents for music production and performance, we’ve yet to see much that gets us drooling. The Synthstation49 (MSRP: $199) isn’t quite the revolution we’re imagining, but it’s still a nice little tool that does its part to bridge the gap between iPad fantasy and reality. The MPC pads and transport buttons are as expected, and the angle-adjustable iPad dock is cool. But a couple of features did actually get our hearts beating a couple ticks faster. Not only does the SynthStation49 sport a stereo set of quarter-inch jacks suitable for routing the output to a recording device or PA mixer, but it also allows players to record all MIDI information (and audio) directly to the iPad (cool, especially if you do a lot of improvisatory knob-twiddling), and it’s fully CoreMIDI compliant, which means it is compatible with any other CoreMIDI iPad app right out of the box.

Tin Man “Lost in LA”

With only a few weeks left before New York’s Unsound Festival gets underway, we’ve gotten our hands on a track from dual Finland/US citizen, now Austria-based producer Tin Man, who will be making his NYC debut during the April festival. “Lost In LA,” from Tin Man’s recently released Perfume LP, delves into the more subdued side of retro-inspired house, pairing jazzy piano chords and programmed percussion with layers of Tin Man’s own vocals as he recalls memories of his former Southern California residence. With the track spanning almost ten minutes, Tin Man keeps things moving by switching through a variety of themes that weave shades of darkness in and out of his calm, introspective narrative. NYC will have the chance to see Tin Man perform, alongside the likes of Detroit legends Octave One and burgeoning Bulgarian producer KiNK, when he performs at the Unsound edition of the Brooklyn’s Bunker party on Saturday, April 9. Surkin, Bobmo, and Para One Unveil New Marble Imprint

Last week, when we shared the sad news that longstanding electronic label Institubes was calling it quits after eight years (though sister label Sound Pellegrino will soldier on independently), we also learned that some members of that now-defunct roster would be starting their own label. Today, we present to you Marble, the new imprint run by DJs/producers Surkin, Bobmo, and Para One (pictured above). The proprietors have put together a quick little “megamix” to mark the launch of their endeavor, and to highlight tracks that are forthcoming from Marble—including music from all three label heads, Canblaster, Das Glow, and others. You can check that miniature DJ set below.

Jo “R Type (T. Williams Refix)”

Next week, London’s Fabric nightclub will once again be teaming up with FWD>> and Rinse FM for a giant party and, in an effort to get everyone appropriately excited in the meantime, has sent along this MP3 from one of the night’s many performers, T. Williams (pictured above). Here we find the Deep Teknologi co-founder flexing some re-editing muscle as he takes a crack at Jo’s jungle classic, “R Type.” Staying true to most of the elements of the original, T. Williams still de-junglefies the tune a bit, replacing the customary early ’90s kick-hat-snare pattern with more updated programming complete with a collection of colossal-sounding drum samples. Like most things T. Williams, this refix is dark, pounding, and intense, and we’re certainly not complaining. You can see Williams along with an insanely stacked list of his UK bass cohorts at Fabric on April 1.

Stacey Pullen Announces New EP

One of Detroit’s influential producers/DJs from the city’s “second wave” of techno innovators, Stacey Pullen, has announced a new EP set to drop on his own Blackflag imprint. The label, which Pullen resurrected last year with his own “Alive” track, has had a limited but well-received catalog of releases since it was founded over a decade ago. Now set to build upon this respected past, Pullen has announced he will be dropping the Get Up EP digitally on April 5. The EP, comprised of only the title track and an accompanying dub version, is said to find Pullen mining his well of experience for a rhythmically dominant track complete with a “a blessing from the Godfather of Soul.” Techno legends sampling James Brown? Yep, we’re intrigued too. You can check the artwork below.
