So Cal native SFV Acid will soon release a new six-song 12″ record on LA’s Post Present Medium label, which is closed out by this solid bit of funky, lo-fi electronics. “New West Coast: …” finds producer Zane Reynolds toying with old-school electro beats and proto-G-funk melodies that coalesce into a sound one might expect to hear bumping out of a tricked-out lowrider spaceship. But when the intensity is kicked up a notch, one can catch influences from an array of the IDM heroes in the Rephlexdiscography—including DMX Krew, Cylob, and The Tuss—who may as well be classified as alien gangstas themselves. SFV Acid seems to be in good company, to say the least, so consider us interested in what the rest of what his New West Coast record has to offer when it drops on March 29. (via Altered Zones)
One day after Kingdom unleashed his jaw-droppingly good XLR8Rpodcast, his spiritual siblings in Nguzunguzu have upped the ante with a new mix of their own. The LA-based duo—which was recently featured in the pages of our magazine—has entitled the mix “The Perfect Lullaby,” and the eclectic DJ session finds the Nguzus doing what they do best: combining choice R&B and hip-hop cuts with insanely titled futuristic global bass tracks. (Sample song title: DJ LaGaRtInHo ft. DJ Antomax – Tarraxa Para Mim Minha Menina.) The mix debuted on DIS; go here to download it and peep the entire tongue-twisting tracklist.

UK musicmaker Sam Willis (who also happens to be half of WALLS) has a new single on the way, produced under his solo moniker Snoretex for the Buzzin’ Fly label. The “Strange Aeons” 12″ (pictured above) drops on March 28 with Willis’ original tune on the a-side and a remix from Boo Williams & Glenn Underground on the flip, but here we have a special “club mix” that won’t appear on the vinyl release. This alternate version of Snoretex’s new tune takes the original’s somber mood even further down the rabbit hole into a world where uptempo music doesn’t necessitate distorted melodies, bombastic rhythms, and mind-numbing bass tones. Instead, we’re treated to a deep soundscape that’s thick with foggy atmospheres and woozy synth sparkles, all of which waft alongside a subtle and steady dance beat that could just as easily appear in a slow-burning techno mix as it could the chillout room next door.
Kicking off this Saturday, March 12, for two weeks only, German bass specialists Schlachthofbronx will hit North America for the first time with a barrage of performances in California, Texas, and Canada. The party-starting duo just dropped its brand-new Nasty Bass EP via Mad Decent, and will surely be dropping some of those low-end-laden dance tunes—like the title track with Spoek Mathambo—each night. Schlachthofbronx is marking the auspicious occasion by giving away a new remix they just completed for Afrobeat artist Onyenze‘s “Onwa Nna Na Nwa” song. You can stream and download that tune, as well as check out the full list of Schlachthofbronx’s tour dates, below.

In addition to the Eglo imprint he runs alongside Floating Points, Alexander Nut helms his very own Ho_Tep label. Two releases deep, Ho_Tep’s EPs have come from as equally eclectic a mix as what Eglo has put out—one from Throwing Snow and the other from Letherette—the former charting darker, techier sides of dubstep and the latter crafting short Dilla-nodding beats infused with jazz and funk. The third outing from Ho_Tep will feature yet another stand-alone, this one from London producer Mau’lin (pictured above), an artist who boasts as healthy a career in sound graffiti installations as proper 12″ releases. Titled Deeper Than the Sun, the EP is billed as an intersection of house and UK breakbeat styles, and features vocals from Canadian singer Amenta on the EP’s title track. Check the tracklist and sleeve below.

Yesterday, card-carrying Brainfeeder member Matthewdavid released his four-track EP, International, a little somethin’-somethin’ to tide people over until his Brainfeeder debut full-length, Outmind, comes out mid-April. Although it’s in line with the analog spirit of Matthewdavid’s cassette-obsessed aesthetic the VHS-inspired music video for the EP’s title track is somewhat less inviting than Matthewdavid’s usual analog love affair. The clip features an aviator-sunglasses-adorned man who may or may not be superimposed over home videos of ’50s-era children—a dark pastiche that puts a new spin on Matthewdavid’s tender nostalgia. Here, we have a small portion of a new remix EP that will be released via The India Trading Company on April 5 on behalf of Brooklyn duo Bikini (pictured above). Win Win, the new production outfit helmed by DJ/tunesmith XXXchange, delivers its version of “American Mourning” for the RIPDJS remix EP, which sports the same kind of synth-laden, quasi-tropical vibes we’ve been enjoying in Win Win’s own tunes. It’s a sparkling, bubbling, and lighthearted slice of pop-friendly dance music, and will surely sit nicely amongst other versions of Bikini’s jams from the other producers on the 11-song record, a list that includes Teen Daze, CFCF, and Dreamboat. You can check out the full list of tracks and the artwork for the RIPDJS remix EP after the jump.
Toronto’s Thoughtless Music imprint may not have quite put Canada on the map as an internationally recognized techno outpost, but over the course of 50 releases, they’ve done their darnedest to help the cause. To celebrate the label’s 50th release, Thoughtless Music label manager, DJ, and producer Noah Pred (pictured above and below) is mixing 50 songs from the label’s 293-track catalog for its first in an ongoing mix series titled Era One. Out April 30, the mix includes the likes of Kate Simko, Jay Tripwire, Billy Dalessandro, and Jeff Bennett. Check the sleeve and tracklist after the jump.

The Norwegian DJ/production duo of Lil’ Wolf and Chris Lynch (a.k.a. Of Norway) has been hard at work plotting its next offering of esoteric, motorik dance tunes, and has just announced the forthcoming release of its new double-a-side single on April 6 via Connaisseur Recordings. The “Karpathian Thirst” b/w “The Bleeding” 12″ features the aforementioned songs and two alternate versions of the latter, which are also by Of Norway. You can take a listen of each lengthy, disco-tinged track (each no shorter than nine minutes, and one even reaching past the 14-minute mark), and check out the limited-edition paper-cut album artwork, below.

From the very first release on Not Not Fun‘s brand-new dance 12″ imprint, 100% Silk, comes this entrancing, handcrafted slow-burner by Daniel Martin-McCormick’s latest solo moniker, Ital. Like his recent drum-machine- and synth-heavy work with Mi Ami, “One Hit” relies solely on analog music equipment to flesh out its vintage-inspired groove, which in turn lends it an air of old-school authenticity. And while Martin-McCormick’s new project isn’t exactly pushing the kinds of Euro-informed disco sounds its name might suggest, the beat is about as motorik as it gets, and effectively provides “One Hit” with a solid backbone so the ambient elements can float about without ever losing the necessary dancefloor vibe. You can check out the two other tracks on Ital’s “Ital’s Theme” 12″ (pictured above) if you pick up the limited-edition record, here. (via Altered Zones)
