Brian Eno to Release New Album on Warp

Some may call this destiny and some may call this chance, but we’re just calling it exciting news. The man largely responsible for inventing, innovating, and inspiring much of the music that XLR8R covers on the daily, Mr. Brian Eno, will be releasing a brand-new album on the almost equally important and similarly groundbreaking Warp label. Obviously, the two seminal entities couldn’t be more well-suited to work together, as Eno is likely to be in the list of influences for pretty much every artist to grace the long-stretching Warp discography, and it feels pretty safe to assume that whatever they agree to release will be rife with fresh ideas and brilliant soundscapes. The record comes about a year after Eno released the collaborative LP with David Byrne, Everything That Happens Will Happen Today, and five years after his last solo release, Another Day on Earth. There are currently no real details on the forthcoming Eno full-length, but a website has been created where fans and other interested parties can submit their email address to receive updates on the proceedings as they develop. Head over here to get connected.

Lazer Sword Reveals Details of Debut Album

We’ve long sung the praises of the once-San Francisco-based-soon-to-be-multinational duo Lazer Sword and its next-level, futuristic treatments to hip-hop and all of the genre’s visceral intricacies, so finally getting the official scoop on Low Limit’s and Lando Kal’s joint full-length album is just that much more exciting for us. The production outfit is set to release Lazer Sword, a 15-track full-length record, on November 2 via Innovative Liesure. The forthcoming album will feature vocal contributions from Antipop Consortium’s M. Sayyid, hyphy homie Turf Talk, Zackey Force Funk, and Freestyle Fellowship acolyte Myka Nyne. Preceding that release date, the self-titled record’s first single, “Batman,” will be released in October with its b-side “I’m Gone” and remixes from Nguzunguzu, Rustie, and the two LS masterminds themselves, each doing a separate production. You can check out the artwork and tracklist (it’s between “4Loko” and “Web Swag” as our favorite title) for Lazer Sword’s debut below.

Bubblin’: Teen Daze

Who:Teen Daze
Where: Vancouver, Canada

Operating in a cloud of mystery, young Canadian producer Teen Daze has made a name for himself simply by opening a tumblr account and posting some tunes online. He’s yet to play any live shows, release anything officially, or even publicly disclose his name, but Teen Daze’s washy bedroom synth exercises have already been both widely praised and shoehorned into the chillwave genre. Yet that ignores the music’s melancholy pop vibe, something that wouldn’t be out of place on an ’80s John Hughes movie soundtrack. His debut EP, Four More Years, comes out this summer on Arcade Sound Ltd.

Para One “Toadstool (LOL Boys Remix)”

If you’ve been keeping up with our unending string of downloadable tunes, or if you read our actual magazine, you may have noticed our bubblin’ interest in the bass-laden, tropically flavored dance beats coming from Californian/Canadian production duo LOL Boys. Since the duo is only getting started (Jerome Potter and Markus Garcia have yet to release their first official EP), we’re chomping at the bit to snag whatever the Boys have put their name to. The rubbery rhythms, chopped-up vocal melody, and thick washes of bass frequencies on this remix of Para One‘s playful “Toadstool,” from Scion A/V’s latest compilation with French label Sound Pellegrino, Straight From the Spring (pictured above), go pretty far towards satiating our LOL needs. And make sure to snag the rest of the EP, with jams from Harvard Bass, Mamma’s Boy, Gucci Vump, and more, here.

ZZK TV Reveals its First Episode

XLR8R Couldn't find the embed function for type: "vimeo" and source: "<embed src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=13693658&amp;server=vimeo.com&amp;show_title=1&amp;show_byline=1&amp;show_portrait=0&amp;color=00ADEF&amp;fullscreen=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="530" height="298">".

We’ve been doing our best to help spread the word about ZZK‘s tour of North America and the label’s fundraising endeavors over the past few months, so we’re happy to see it’s all coming to fruition. Through their efforts on KickStarter, label co-founder El G and his band of merry, South American musicmakers have garnered enough funding to start production on ZZK TV. This first episode was filmed throughout New York City while on tour, and features plenty of live performance footage and interviews from ZZK artists Chancha Vía Circuito, El Remolón, and Tremor, along with a load of obligatory randomness. If the quality of material keeps up with each installment, we can’t wait to see what Episode Two brings.

Santiago Salazar “Jamilia’s Theme”

Underground Resistance affiliate and all-around musical busybody Santiago Salazar delivered this one-off track to Little White Earbuds as a WAV file just last Friday, and we got into to it so much that we thought a nicely sized 320kbps MP3 would look mighty fine right here on the XLR8R website. His mellow filter-house tune, “Jamilia’s Theme,” brings to mind similar lounge-y electronic producers but with the ‘muzak’ vibes turned down and the melodies’ soul cranked up. Seeing as how Salazar usually signs his tunes to any number of high-quality labels, we count ourselves lucky to get such a great track free of cost.

Watch the Video for Brand-New Chromeo Tune “Don’t Turn the Lights On”

When describing the ’80s-obsessed, electro-funk of NY duo Chromeo, rarely—if ever—does the word “creepy” come to mind, but that’s exactly what the video for the outfit’s new song is. “Don’t Turn the Lights On” is on the soft-spoken side of Dave1’s and P-Thugg’s retro-futuristic R&B sound, and is lifted of their forthcoming third album, Business Casual. While the bespectacled frontman politely croons the song’s chorus and his bearded cohort quietly jams out on some keys, the lights flick from on to off, leaving the band’s glowing eyes and vibrant grins floating in air. The disembodying effect is applied to a wide cast of characters who each get a chance to do some weird shit with their illuminated organs, like so many Cheshire Cats. As “Lights” progresses, things continue to grow stranger and more funny within the video. We always knew Chromeo had a sense of humor, but some of this stuff is totally absurd, which is great.

Brackles “Blo”

Blunted Robots cohort and bass music patron Brackles is a month from releasing his first mix album, which also happens to be the inaugural volume of the new !K7/Cool in Pool series, Songs for Endless Cities. For the new mix, the DJ/producer crafted this exclusive track to mesh into his upbeat blend of UK funky, future-garage, and other next-level productions. “Blo” is a smooth, even-keeled number that flexes a patently shuffling house beat, some tastefully energetic synth tones, bits of soulful vocal sampling, and one hell of a bubbling bassline. If this brand-new production from Brackles is a sign of what to expect on his forthcoming mix, we’re pretty sure we’ve got our summer’s party music sorted. (via FACT)

Matthew Dear and Ghostly Create a New Way to Buy Music

For those of us still reeling from our first viewing of Inception, the word “totem” can only mean one thing. We won’t reiterate that here, so as to avoid a spoiler possibility, but now it’s time that we make room in our minds for totem to mean something else entirely. In the weeks leading up to the release of Matthew Dear‘s new full-length album, Black City, the consistently innovative Ghostly label has teamed with NY-based design team Boym Partners to produce what they are calling “a proposal, an entreaty to listeners everywhere to reconsider our relationship to music in the digital era.” The object, which you can see in the video above, was made to represent the themes of Dear’s forthcoming opus, reference an element of his conceptual city’s skyline, and serve as an actual conduit for the music itself. In addition to granting its owner access to the album and exclusive portions of MatthewDear.com, the totem will also reveal a track not available on the standard release. You can snag your own hand-crafted, limited-edition piece for $125 at the Ghostly store when they go on sale Tuesday, August 3.

Video: Toddla T “Sky Surfing”

Sheffield bass prodigy Toddla T has a new video for his song “Sky Surfing,” a track voiced by Jamaican dancehall MC Wayne Marshall. True to form, the tune is pretty manic, as is the Douster remix we recently offered for download, but the video might be even crazier. Featuring Toddla T dressed up in Superman, or perhaps SuperToddla, attire, the clip features cross-dressing grannies, bug-eyed criminals, and a lot of the young beatmaker mugging for the camera in saggy underpants and flexing his wispy arms. SuperToddla also appears to have a major problem with people who let their dogs shit on the street on don’t pick it up. Bring a plastic baggie or beware of his wrath!
