Exclusive: ApSci “Under Control (David Last vs MC Zulu Remix)”

Noise-hop duo ApSci, who just returned from Sydney, Australia, where they’ve been recording Best Crisis Ever, recently slipped their track “Under Control” into the hands of producer David Last. With badman MC Zulu in tow, the tune becomes a stomping, ragga-flavored number that will surely stir things up on the weekend dancefloor.

Meanwhile, Best Crisis Ever will drop August 11.

Lusine “Two Dots”

We haven’t seen a full-length from DJ, producer, and remixer Lusine since 2004’s Serial Hodgepodge (he was busy scoring films these last five years), but the man born Jeff McIlwain is back, and here is the first single off A Certain Distance, his new album. Looks like he donned his ambient techno hat for the release, which is slated to hit stores later this fall.

Minus 8 “Late Night”

Crazy club music all day long would drive us insane, which is why producers like Minus 8 are sometimes a welcome breath of fresh (and slower-paced) air. The Zurich-based DJ, producer, and radio-show host just released Slow Motion, a straightforward downtempo affair that’s rooted in funky jazz, hip-hop, and Latin flavor. Here’s proof that the occasional chill-out session doesn’t necessarily make you old and boring.

Shunda K. “Thee Woman’s Perspective”

Some big news of the week is that Yo Majesty’s Shunda K. and Domino Records have parted ways. Even bigger news is that Shunda is simply soldiering on and releasing 42 tracks via two mixtapes. “Domino didn’t move quickly enough for me,” she said in a recent press release. Thus, the self-released? Best Eva Written and Kollaborations mixtapes are currently streaming at her site. Here’s her perspective, via a track off the former.

Air Returns With New Album

Having made a mighty fine Pocket Symphony in 2007, Air now returns to the forefront of our musical minds with a new album, Love 2.

This will be the duo’s fifth studio album, which Jean-Benoit Dunckel and Nicolas Godin crafted in the cozy confines of their own Atlas Studio, in northern Paris. And this time around, the two employed a live drummer and percussionist, namely, famed L.A. musician Joey Waronker, who’s best known for his work with acts like R.E.M. and The Smashing Pumpkins. There will be no early ’90s rock revival here though, but rather another collection of meticulously crafted electronic goodies, to be released October 6.

A single, “Do the Joy,” will precede the album’s release. Pick that up in digital format on July 7.

Trentemøller Harbour Boat Trips — 01: Copenhagen

While it’s hard to believe that an electronic music veteran like Anders Trentemøller could go nearly a decade without being tapped for a proper mix CD, the tracks contained on Harbour Boat Trips are perhaps even more shocking. Foregoing the intricate, long-form techno of his production and remix work, here Trentemøller indulges his pop impulses, assembling an impressively chilled out collection of indie experimentalism, swirling shoegaze, and late ’70s post-punk revivalism. Weaving together acts like Grouper, Beach House, Suicide, The Raveonettes, and The Brian Jonestown Massacre (with surprisingly little attention paid to elaborate mixing), Harbour Boat Trips whispers and hums along at a deliberate pace, only rising above mid-tempo for a bopping remix of Soft Cell’s “Tainted Love.” We always knew that Trentemøller had impeccable technique—apparently his taste is also spot on.
