Night Eyes “We are the iiEyes”

Seed Records latest signees, Eyes, dive into the psych-meets-no-wave sound palette on their forthcoming debut album, Night Eyes, which also happens to be the band’s first proper studio recording. The band brings its lo-fi, DIY aesthetic to light with this track, which will perk the ears of Ariel Pink or HEALTH fans.

Night Eyes is out June 1.

Kevin Saunderson History Elevate

As one-third of preeminent techno crew the Belleville Three, Kevin Saunderson’s name seems as big as the genre he helped shape. The two-disc History Elevate handily collects tracks from his remixing career along with remixes of his own work by old hands (Carl Craig) and relative young bucks (Joris Voorn). Though using Ableton and CDs to compile his Resident Advisor mix inflamed some trolls, Saunderson’s own remixes put backlash to bed. Like a graphic designer who still works with scotch tape and scissors, Saunderson’s remixes have an unaccustomed heft and deliberateness to them. The second disc is more of a very good mix than a history lesson, but Saunderson’s remixers rarely choke when stepping up to the master’s plate.

Various Artists Boogaloo Pow Wow

Like all the best dance crazes, boogaloo—the passionately funky, vivacious combination of soul and Latin jazz—lasted but a heartbeat on the musical scene of ’60s America. The quality of records produced benefited from veteran jazz and soul players jumping on the bandwagon, and Boogaloo Pow Wow is possibly the most universally appealing comp of Funky Spanish Harlem’s ’60s grooves since the dawn of the reissue revival. The heavy-hitters from the contemporary funk scene are here, like KAKO’s “Cool Jerk” and Manny Corchado’s floor-filler “Pow Wow.” So, too, are more jazz-oriented contributions, proving that boogaloo had the roots and experience to make a lasting musical impression during its short time in the limelight.

Fever Ray Readies North American Tour

The Knife’s Karin Dreijer Andersson has performed on U.S. soil before, but this fall will be the first time she does so under her Fever Ray name. Her debut album under this project was released earlier this year and met with endless amounts of praise, so expect this handful of dates to sell out in days (if not minutes). She’s enlisted Swedish multimedia artist Andreas Nilsson—who directed the video for her first single—to mastermind the accompanying visual show.

Andersson is currently touring Europe and won’t head Stateside until fall, but again, don’t sleep on those tickets.

Interact: Black Moth Super Rainbow

One day, mere music videos one simply watches won’t be good enough. Black Moth Super Rainbow has the jump on that idea—figuratively and literally, since the focal point of the band’s new “Dark Bubbles” video is a dude bouncing up and down on a trampoline. Drag your mouse over the picture (or use webcam) to make the screen transform from bright day to black night. Maybe have some drugs handy too…

“Dark Bubbles” is on BMSR’s Eating Us, out May 26 via Graveface.

Finale “Heat (Prod. by J Dilla)”

From the seemingly endless vaults of the late J Dilla’s production legacy comes the foundation for Finale‘s single “Heat.” “It was off a beat CD, but it was done before [Dilla] passed away and I was able to build with him about it before he passed,” says Finale of the track, which comes courtesy of his latest album, A Pipe Dream and a Promise.

Alexander Nut Rinse:08

The term of the moment is “wonky,” but when it comes to Alexander Nut’s superb blend of urban beats, it’s all about soul, swing, and a distinctly contemporary kind of swagger. The mix starts off in the sunshine poolside, glowing under the warm rays exuded by tracks like Marco Polo’s “Relax.” But the reflection in the infinity pool gets more refracted and strange as the album progresses, leisurely shifting between raw, slightly disorienting electro beats from hip-hop’s razor edge and oversized U.K. basslines distilled from dub’s massive echoes. Nut never wavers, and seems to find new potential in the thick, unwieldy basslines he strings together. Terms don’t matter when the sum is greater than it’s already impressive parts.
