PBR Streetgang ‘Late Night Party Line’ (Man Power Remix)

PBR Streetgang—the moniker of acclaimed production/DJ duo Bonar Bradberry and Tom Thorpe—have been making moves and making music together for almost a decade now. But the time has come for them to release their long-awaited debut album Late Night Party Line, which features guest vocals by Mattie Safer from The Rapture on future single “Everything Changes,” Danielle Moore from Crazy P and hotly tipped newcomer Lilly Juniper.

Says Bonar: “This album is a reflection of music we love, love to play and has influenced us. It’s been really interesting to make something that gives you a full hour listening experience.” Tom: “We’d been talking about making an album for a while, so when we started the process in the studio we quickly found our flow and everything came together naturally. Making the album was simply a lot of fun—I hope people can feel that!”

Late Night Party Line—also the name of their current Loleatta Holloway-sampling single—will be released via Skint/BMG on December 1. Late Night Party Line which was released as a super-limited vinyl release back in August, will be reissued on all streaming and digital platforms with a brand new remix from Man Power—which you can grab below.

Influences 02: jitwam

Last month, we launched a new podcast series called Influences with a journey into early easy listening material from Rod Modell (a.k.a. DeepChord). The series—for those that didn’t catch the first edition—will focus on an artist’s musical upbringing, unearthing and showcasing the music that has inspired them to produce what they do today.

For Influences 02, we invite jitwam, a Brooklyn-based musician with deep roots across the globe and a musical style that touches on free-jazz, soul, funk, and more beat-driven pastures—think Jay Electronica, J Dilla, Moodymann, and Madlib.

jitwam’s life story is as diverse as the music he makes: although born in Assam, Gauhati, in Northeast India, he spent his formative years in Australia and New Zealand, before embarking on a period that would see him living in monasteries in Thailand and orphanages in South Africa. A stint in London followed—this is where he first shared his music with IZWID Records boss Kutmah at a Brainfeeder afterparty—before settling in his current base in Brooklyn.

After a life spent scouring the earth for inspiration, jitwam subtly released his debut EP, TJD001, via The Jazz Diaries—the label he co-runs with Casey Van Reyk and Nigel Mphisa—in 2013. That EP, with its warped, enticing funk and soul, laid bare jitwam’s sonic signature and caught the ear of tastemakers such as Gilles Peterson, Alexander Nut, Bandcamp’s Andrew Jervis, and Moodyman, who featured the EP’s closing track, “keepyourbusinesstoyourself,” on his DJ Kicks compilation—XLR8R also featured a cut from the EP in our downloads section. In the years following, jitwam featured as a guest vocalist on Paul White’s Shaker Notes album on R&S, before releasing his sophomore solo outing, TJD006, on The Jazz Diaries in July of this year.

Today, jitwam’s debut album, ज़ितम सिहँ, drops on Cosmic Compositions. It’s a beautifully sprawling LP that stylishly weaves through crackling psychedelia, oddball blues, and swinging beat outings. To celebrate the release, jitwam offered to dig through his collection for Influences 02, sharing a glimpse into the music that forms the backbone of his enigmatic persona.

This is what he had to say:

We are all inspired beings. And everything is inspiration.

Both the good and the bad…from Limp Bizkit to Alice Coltrane, Michael Jordan to Yayoi Kusama, Juju to French Chanson, there is no choice in what inspires you. There is only choice in being open to inspiration.

I couldn’t fit everything in the space of 60 minutes, so big shoutouts to those that didn’t make it on this mix: Arthur Russel, Leon Thomas, Chet Baker, Julie London, Parris Mitchell, DJ Rashad, Traxman, RP Boo, Steve Reich, Terry Riley, Laraaji, RD Burman, Lata Mangeshkar, The Velvet Underground, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Shake, Rabindranath Tagore, Moondog, Edu Lobo, Caeteno Veloso, Pharaoh Sanders, Panda Bear, D’angelo, Erykah, Karriem Riggins, Actress, Aphex Twin, Dr. Dre, Snoop, Warren G, Henry Wu, Ahkatari, Only Rays… the list goes on. —jitwam

Premiere: Stream a Deep Cut From Sebo K’s Debut Album

Sebo K‘s awaited debut album, Patience, will drop tomorrow on Rekids.

The LP arrives 15 years into Sebo K’s production career and follows a string of recent releases on Bass Culture, Robsoul Recordings, and Tsuba. Outside of his own releases, his vinyl-only label Scenario has dropped outings from some of house music’s most respected names, including Ian Pooley, DJ Honesty, Jus Ed, Dan Curtin, DJ Deep, and Diego Krause.

Musically, Patience presents a refined and subtle overview of the sonic space Sebo K has carefully crafted over the years, from the breakbeat grooves of “Paradigm Change” to the electro-tinged melancholia of “Transitions” and the skeletal rhythms of “Eyes Wide Open.”

In support of tomorrow’s release, Sebo K has offered up a full stream of “Transitions,” available via the player below.

You can pre-order Patiencehere.

Cocaine Kisses ‘Cocaine Kisses’ (Dam-Funk Re-Freak)

LA duo Cocaine Kisses—made up of Orfeo, an opera trained singer/producer and revered synth maestro Computer Jay—emerge with their self-titled debut single.

The bewitching, R&B-soaked pop cut teases out a glimpse of a forthcoming full-length which will look to fuse moody, low-slung electronics with Orfeo’s seductive vocal work. The single also lands with a rework from fellow LA artist Dam-Funk, who flips the single into an up-tempo slice of funk with a rubbery bassline and hip-moving broken beats.

In support of the single release, you can grab Dam-Funk’s remix for free via WeTransfer below. The original cut can be streamed here.

Ableton Announces Live 10

Ableton has announced Live 10.

The eagerly-awaited and much-anticipated next version of Live will introduce four new Ableton devices, a completely re-designed sound library, workflow refinements, design updates, improvements to Push integration, a fully-integrated Max for Live, and more.

The new devices in Live 10 will include Wavetable, a new synth with a variety of waveforms derived from analog synths, as well as modeled analog filters, and deep, flexible modulation; Echo, which promises to deliver sounds ranging from “classic analog and digital textures to diffused soundscapes, wailing feedback and other experimental atmospheres”; Drum Buss, an all-in-one drum sculpting tool; and Pedal, which features three separate circuit-level models of overdrive, distortion and fuzz guitar pedals.

Live 10’s workflow refinements include an updated interface with cleaner design and optimized themes; Capture, which recalls an idea after it has been played and turns it into a MIDI clip; multiple MIDI clip editing options; arrangement view improvements, including nudging, time stretching, one-key zooming and drag-and-drop track duplication; groups within groups organization; MIDI notes will play even when not started from the beginning of the MIDI note; input and output renaming and labeling; and mixing improvements, including improved gain range and bass mono feature in Utility, extended low frequency slopes on EQ Eight, and Split Stereo Pan.
