Francois X Shares 40-Minute House Set

Concrete has uploaded a house mix by Francois X following his recent B2B with Leon Vynehall on July 21.

This is what the French techno artist had to say:

“Hello hello,

Here is a short extract from my last gig/residency at Concrete. That night I had the chance to play with the very talented Leon Vynehall. At one point we DJed together and it was a tremendous B2B, which took me back to my roots: house music.

I was on closing duty after that b2B and this mix captures a lot of my influences… so do not expect peak timers, or banging tracks, etc.. but instead raw mixes, a love, deepness, and mostly passion.

Truly yours,

Francois X”

Avalon Emerson and Dorsiburg Remix Octo Octa’s ‘Adrift’

Maya Bouldry-Morrison (a.k.a.Octo Octa) is set to re-release “Adrift” alongside two remixes by Avalon Emerson and Dorisburg.

“Adrift” originally appeared on the Brooklyn-based artist’s Where Are We Going? LP, which landed earlier this year via San Francisco’s Honey Soundsystem, but now the track returns with two remixes.

“When Octo Octa sent us the demos for her first full-length record since 2013, we were floored by how many tracks were single worthy. But, there was one that stood out as something entirely on its own, a song that in many ways sounded like nothing Maya had ever released. Since the beginning, we always knew we wanted to do something special with “Adrift,” the 8+ minute space-age synth-dub techno tune. When we asked Maya about doing a 12″ with remixes we were blindsided to learn she has NEVER had any of her music remixed before. With some remixers in mind, she asked two of her favorites and they said yes. So, here we are to present HNY-016 Octo Octa Adrift, remixed by Avalon Emerson and Dorisburg.” — Honey Soundsystem

Tracklisting:

A. Adrift
B. Adrift (Dorisburg Remix)
B2. Adrift (Avalon Emerson Remix)

Adrift is scheduled for August 25 release with clips streamable here.

Emufucka ‘Rosy’

The enigmatic Japanese artist Emufucka has evolved his sound from experimental trap to more cinematic offerings. His latest release, titled Rosy / Inna, is limited to just 300 pressings and presents two tracks of “contemplative brooding, and forward thinking neo-classical music”—an “unprecedented” change of direction that “reflects the dynamic wealth of experience Emufucka possesses.”

“Rosy,” which is available to download below, opens with an apprehensive low Cello that holds its deep notes, as it is gently harmonized by humming legato violin strokes that continue to build until a tiny high piano riff breaks the intensity. As the piece progresses, rising crash symbols, and tentative flute melodies are introduced, along with occasional miniature flurries from a harp. The second track from the EP comes in the form of “Inna,” a seductively soporific and reflective piece, evoking abstract images of natural surroundings.

Rosy / Inna is scheduled for August 9 release, with “Rosy” available to download and stream below.

ZOMBY Announces New EP, Shares Track

UK producer ZOMBY will drop his latest EP, GASP!, via Big Dada on September 8.

GASP! follows last year’s Ultra album and was recorded on an all-analog setup, as he explains: “I was tired of too much digitisation and over-saturation; this is a work that represents a shift forward for me.”

The EP’s title track is available on a range of streaming services today, with the full EP available for pre-order here.

Mike Terra ‘Rhythm 33’ (Jacques Renault Remixes)

Towards the end of 2016, XLR8Rreleased a remix by David Paglia of M.P.C.’s “Brooklyn Nights,” the title track to his EP on Brooklyn label Good Company Records. Since then, the label has dropped releases from Chris Luzz and The WIG & Panoc, with their latest, an EP from one of the label’s founders Mike Terra dropping next Friday, August 11.

Rhythm 33 will be the first EP to drop on the label from one of the founders, arriving alongside remixes from fellow Brooklynite Jacques Renault and St. Xose. Like much of Good Company’s back catalog, Rhythm 33 is filled with raw, dubbed-out house grooves ripe for the dancefloor.

In support of the EP, Good Company has offered up two additional remixes from Jacques Renault as free downloads—one of the cuts is a bootleg mix of his official remix and the other is an instrumental mix of the bootleg.

You can grab both remixes via WeTransfer below, alongside snippets of the full EP, which can be pre-ordered here.

Premiere: Stream an Evocative Cut From Matt Emery

UK composer Matt Emery will release his debut album, Empire, via Injazero Records next month.

Empire follows a string of albums on Injazero this year, including contributions from Heinali, Steve Gibbs, and LTO’s stunning Storybook, an album XLR8Rpremiered back in June. Like those albums, Empire is built on deftly crafted pieces of poignant electronics and haunting instrumentation. With a combination of piano, strings, and more modern production techniques, Emery has poured a myriad of emotions into Empire, qualities ever present in the achingly beautiful title track, which can be heard via the player below.

Injazero Records will release Empire on 180g vinyl and digital on September 15. Following the release, Emery will play an album launch show at St Pancras Old Church on Wednesday, October 4.

Marlon Hoffstadt ‘I’m With You’

Just last year he put out his first record with Chicago house legend Paris Brightledge on the vocals and the pair just released another collaboration on Retrograde in November. Soon there will be a third DJ Haus’ label Hot Haus.

Today, however, he’s shared “I’m With You,” a smooth, feel-good cut that’s now available to stream and download below.

I’m With You

François X Announces Debut Album

DEMENT3D co-founder François X will soon release his debut LP, titled Irregular Passion.

The inspiration for the album stemmed from the Parisian techno artist’s fascination towards “the intensity of what nightlife has to offer: euphoria and melancholy, spotlights or incognito, sexual contact or lonely voyeurism.” It will be the last of three solo records that were inspired by themes from the film “Blade Runner,” following on from 2014’s Suspended In A Stasis Field EP and last year’s Unicorn Paranoia EP. The label explains that Rachael, one of the character’s in the movie, became a “muse” for Francois X while working on the release.

We’re also told that “quite a surprising variety of genres and references” feature on the album, and that it “bridges a lot of influences and different compositions together, yet is held together by a cinematic, sexual tension and blurry atmosphere.”

Bicep Share New Rave-Inspired Single

Bicep—the Belfast-born, London-based duo of Matt McBriar and Andy Ferguson—have today announced “Glue,” the second track to be taken from their eponymous debut album.

The album Bicep is said to be the “perfect summation of the duo’s career to date; it’s a sonic tour of their history touching the cornerstones of underground club culture,” says the label. “Matt and Andy have pulled off the rarest of feats, to make a singularly unique electronic record founded on the blueprint of classic house, techno, electro, and Italo disco, but flipped and morphed into a fresh design bearing the unique Bicep sonic signature,” Ninja Tune, the label, explains.

“Glue” is said to embody the raw energy of UK rave culture, with references to skeletal UKG and “could have emerged from the studio of Orbital or The Future Sound Of London at their trailblazing best.”

Bicep LP is scheduled for September 1 release, with “Glue” streamable in full above.
