Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra ‘J Schleia’

Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra

Berlin’s Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra returns this summer with a fourth album, titled Vula.

Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra (a.k.a. (A.M.E.O.) is a self-organized, independent group of like-minded individuals that is “unlike any other orchestra.” It’s a steadily working ensemble with a focus on experimentation. Comprised of 18 young, in-demand musicians hailing from various countries and musical backgrounds, its members have previously worked in constellations that couldn’t be more diverse—including Ensemble Intercontemporain, Tony Allen’s Afrobeat, Jazz-Legend Kenny Wheeler, and Camerata Bern. The Notwist and post-conceptual artist Cory Arcangel and Daniel Glatzel, the orchestra’s leader and saxophonist, have been the main composers over the last decade since it’s inception in 2006, overseeing the group’s three previous releases, namely Live on Planet Earth (2014), Bum Bum (2012) and Take Off (2009).Besides playing concerts around the world, AMEO also hosts and curates its own genre events.

Having celebrated their 10-year anniversary with a series of concerts last year, the orchestra’s new full-length “showcases a stronger focus on harmony and melody,” they say. It is, they continue, “quite a different beast compared to its live predecessor or the orchestra’s last studio effort.” It is a one-hour-long adventure that needs to be listened to in full.“Listeners who just dip in and out won’t be able to grasp it, I’m afraid,” says Glatzel. “It takes concentrated listening, from beginning to end, with decent sound, to achieve that. And of course it sounds somewhat anachronistic, but it actually reflects the working process, because there were so many complications and obstacles we had to clear during the five years in which we worked on Vula. And yet, despite all the hullaballoo, I felt inspired to see it through: simply because the music seemed to say “if you can’t devote yourself to this, you’re lost; but if you can, you’re bound to experience the ride of your life…””

Ahead of the album’s July 9 release on Alien Transistor, “J Schleia” is available to download via the WeTransfer button below.

Premiere: Hear a Cut from Premiesku’s New EP on 20/20 Vision

Following on from their exceptional Jojoman release in 2015, the Romanian trio Premiesku return on Ralph Lawson‘s 20/20 Vision imprint—one of the UK’s defining independent dance labels.

Premisku—namely Livio & Roby and George G—pride themselves on pushing the boundaries of electronic live music performance, both technically and sonically, and have already tasted success on influential labels such as Apollonia, All Inn Records, Vakant, and Djebali to name a few. They take their custom made analog hardware all over the globe, including world-renowned festivals like Loveland, Sunwaves, and Modernity as well as top clubs including Amnesia Ibiza, Rex, and Stereo Montreal.

The label describes In Sfera as “a tight package of dancefloor groovers,” that sees the trio utilize their “expertly crafted and infectiously percussive productions.”

On remix duties is with FUSE boss Enzo Siragusa who closes the release with a rework of the title track.

Dublab Celebrates its 18-Year Anniversary and Announces Move to FM Radio

LA’s internet radio station Dublab will make its move to FM later this year.

2017 also marks the 18-year anniversary of the popular station, which runs seven days a week broadcasting the sounds of LA and the wider musical landscape of left-field music—just recently, the station hosted a b2b session from Four Tet, Ben UFO, and Floating Points, for example.

When speaking to LA Weekly, Dublab director Ale Cohen said: “99.1 FM. We have the gear. We’re close to confirming the place for the antenna. Later this year, we’ll be up and running.”

A nonprofit since the mid-2000s, Dublab is currently running a proton drive to keep the broadcast flowing—you can donate here.

Psymun Drops New EP on Ghostly; Shares Massive Free Sample Pack

Today, Ghostly International release Rainbow Party, the latest EP from new signee Psymun.

The EP follows Psymun’s work as part of the acclaimed Thestand4rd project, alongside Corbin (a.k.a. Spooky Black), Bobby Raps, and Allan Kingdom, and his solo work on Pink Label. For his latest, Psymun presents a three-track outing that looks to punk, noise, and oddball electronics to explore the far reaches of hip-hop and beat-driven pastures. From the foggy and ominous EP opener, “Glitch Tundra,” which also features frequent collaborator Chester Watson, to the analog-driven, slow-mo electronics of closing cut, “Confetti,” Rainbow Party is Psymun’s psychedelic sonic statement of intent.

Alongside the release of the EP, Psymun has released a free sample pack that includes samples from the entire Psymun catalog and his work with thestand4rd, K.Raydio, and much more.

You can download the sample pack for free here, with Rainbow Party available to purchase here or stream here.
