Valgeir Sigurðsson Preps First Solo Material Since 2012

Icelandic composer and musician Valgeir Sigurðsson will soon release his first solo material since 2012, titled Dissonance—a beautiful new record scheduled for April 21 release on Bedroom Community.

Recorded and produced between September 2015 and November 2016 at Greenhouse Studios, Dissonance reflects “the most extreme four years of Sigurðsson’s life.” According to the label, Dissonance is “a personal and collective musical treatise to explore and question a world that is collapsing under its internal dissonances.”

The LP’s recording process incorporates an orchestral recording technique that Sigurðsson has been developing for some years now, where he breaks up the orchestra and records each of its sections separately. Layer after layer he records performances by collaborators Liam Byrne and Reykjavík Sinfonia. A handful of string players and just one of each of the orchestra’s instruments are then multiplied to create an imaginary orchestra. This method enables Sigurðsson’s complete control over all the details and nuances, and the trade-off a unique sounding ensemble that is at the composer’s disposal for further electronic manipulation.

Tracklisting:

01. Dissonance
02. No Nights Dark Enough I. flow
03. No Nights Dark Enough II. infamy sings
04. No Nights Dark Enough IV. fear and grief and pain
05. No Nights Dark Enough V. learn to contemn light
06. 1875 I. waterborne
07. 1875 II. in the dead of winter
08. 1875 III. displaced

Ahead of the LP’s April 21 release, “No Nights Dark Enough II. infamy sings” is streamable in full below.

Maayan Nidam Shares Nine-Hour Mix

Maayan Nidam has shared her full set from her birthday party.

The Berlin-based, Israeli-born DJ-producer had a busy summer, contributing two tracks to Nina KravizSleep Not Found compilation before releasing a new Perlon 10″.

The set, broken down into seven parts, was recorded in July as part of her birthday party at Club der Visionäre where she played with Nina Kraviz, Konrad Black, and K.atou.

The entire set is streamable below.

Kevin Over ‘Dighaus’ (Geddes Remix)

Geddes’ Nofitstate imprint has been in operation since 2013, releasing club-focused records from a range of house music stalwarts including Simon Baker, Matthew Styles, Mr. Tophat & Art Alfie, Dan Beaumont, Alex Arnout, Kiki and Sasse, and, most recently, Kevin Over.

Released a few months back, German DJ and producer Kevin Over’s Schatten EP featured three groove-led cuts and, due to unforeseen circumstances, Geddes’ remix of EP cut “Dighaus” never appeared on the EP—it’s now being offered as an XLR8R download, however. For his remix, Geddes strips back the original, focusing on a rolling groove and deep, dubby stabs.

You can grab Geddes’ remix via WeTransfer below, with Schatten available over at Beatport.

Premiere: Stream a New Cut from Kid Sublime

On Friday, In-Beat-Ween Music will release a VA compilation titled Footwork House Jam #1.

The compilation is an homage to the global house culture and the long-running Moscow-based club night of the same name (Footwork House Jam). What began as a small project in 2010 soon became the biggest creative community of dancers in Russia, a home to the country’s premier dance crews and artists.

The tracks on the release aim to break borders and fuse together disparate styles into an interesting and highly danceable mixture. Footwork House Jam #1 includes five cuts from Karizma, Byron The Aquarius, Nubian Mindz, Kid Sublime & Han Litz, Intr0beatz, and Lay-Far, all who provide swinging interpretations and classicist beats.

Ahead of the February 17 release, you can stream Kid Sublime & Han Litz’ cut “Wings of Love” in full via the player below.

SANDSCAPE Release Mesmering New Video

Alternative jazz/electronic duo SANDSCAPE have unleashed the eerie, ominous video for their emotive track “Artificial Rush.”

Formed by producer Dan Sonabend and vocalist Eliza Shaddad, the duo draw on their jazz and electronic background (as well as their respective Israeli and Arab heritages) to create dark, intimate and experimental songs. Sonabend, born to English and Iraqi parents and raised in Tel Aviv, made his reputation as a bassist and arranger before gravitating towards film scoring and music production. Born to Sudanese and Scottish parents with deep artistic heritage, Eliza has gained considerable support from various media outlets.

Speaking on the video, Eliza Shaddad explains “We shot this with director Michal Sulima during a little freak heat wave late last year. We wanted to make a visual accompaniment to the song that was quite dreamlike, and recalled the heat of summer in a sensual but melancholy sort of way, so we focused on creating something intimate and textured, full of close-up body parts and literal sandscapes, all with a tongue in cheek London-esque twist at the end.”

Pär Grindvik Next on Weekend Circuit

Following a string of releases on his own Stockholm LTD, Pär Grindvik will drop his latest LP on Weekend Circuit.

Grindvick’s Sole Survivor will follow standout entries in the label’s catalog that have included cuts from Lucy, Varg, YYYY, Stanislav Tolkachev, and Developer. The EP will be Grindvik’s first full-length EP on the label and is a stunning collection of mind-bending rhythms and “strikingly imperfect tones that delude the mind and mistreat the senses.”

Sole Survivor drops on March 7 on 12″ vinyl and digital and can be pre-ordered via Weekend Circuit’s Bandcamp page.

ItaloJohnson Share New Sunrise Set

Berlin-based trio ItaloJohnson has shared a recording of their at Mexico’s Comunité 2017—an extended medley covering their acid, trance-inducing selections.

After Omar-S‘ set featuring Nite Jewel, the trio successfully shifted the mood into dancefloor debauchery as the sun came up on the early morning.
