Dixon & Kornél Kovács Remix Auntie Flo

An album of Auntie Flo remixes is on the way.

Brian d’Souza’s Theory Of Flo was released in its original format back in 2015 on Huntleys & Palmers. This year, the Glasgow-based label, which is celebrating a decade in business, will team up with Highlife to put out an LP of remixes of cuts from the album.

Theory Of Flo Remixed features Dixon‘s Beat Edit of “Waiting For A (Woman) (The Revenge Rework),” which dropped on Philomena recently. Also on remix duties are Mark EKornél Kovács and Throwing Shade, amongst others. The news follows on from the recent release of The Soniferous Gardenby Auntie Flo.

Theory Of Flo Remixed will be released March 10. Pre-order it at Bandcamp.

Stream a Track from The Golden Filter’s Forthcoming Album

Later this month, Optimo Music will release the second full-length from The Golden Filter.

The album, titled STILL // ALONE, follows a relocation to London and a string of shows around Europe and was produced in an assortment of old studio spaces around the UK using mostly analog ’80’s instruments, machines, and effects.

STILL // ALONE focuses on the theme of being in love with pure solitude and is separated into two distinct sides; side one, STILL, is a “hypnotic meditation for the nightclub”; whereas side two, ALONE, moves beyond the club and sits in the realm of raw, left-field pop. Although there are two distinct sides to the release, there’s a cohesiveness to it all with melancholic feelings of love and loss running throughout—it’s a brilliantly conceived follow up to their 2010 debut, Voluspa.

Ahead of the February 24 release, you can stream “Questions,” a cut from side two, in full via the player below.

Raphael Danilo feat. George Pappos ‘Strangers’ (Nikkname Remix)

For its next release, Freeride Millenium will link up with Pauls Musique for a new EP from Raphael Danilo feat. George Pappos.

The EP lands with an original cut, titled “Strangers,” and two remixes from German pair Innellea and Cologne artist Nikkname, both of whom flip the cut into enchanting interpretations. Danilo and Pappos’ original takes cues from their home area on the edges of the Greek mountain Parnassos and the ancient sanctuary of Delphi and all three cuts focus on the stunning sound design and spiritual synth work from the Greek producers.

The EP comes packaged in an enthralling artwork by visual artist Daniel Rajcsanyi that perfectly embodies the otherworldly nature of the music. You can pick the record up now on 12″ and digitally, with Nikkname’s remix available via WeTransfer below.

Weekly Selections: Perpetual Dawn, Akufen & Sammy Dee at Cyclone, Ostbahnhof

This weekend is a big one for underground music in Los Angeles. On Friday, veteran LA promoter Perpetual Dawn kicks off the festivities with a makeup event celebrating the launch of the organizers’ record label (the party was supposed to take place last Friday but was broken up by the police). For this special occasion, Perpetual Dawn has recruited Xosar of Rush Hour and Creme Organization. The Berlin-based techno producer will play an exclusive live set in Jewel’s Room at UNION, with opening duties provided by Ghostly contributor Telefon Tel Aviv. Black Lodge mainstay Force Placement will also spin, along with Perpetual Dawn residents Dahlia and Kid606. For those who bought tickets to last week’s botched event, organizers are offering double the amount of tickets purchased for the original event. More information can be found here.

On Saturday evening, Cyclone will return again after a stellar gathering last Friday with Herodot and Gescu of Romania. This weekend’s party will be held in collaboration with underground promoter Nuit Blanche, and will feature highly anticipated performances from the Canadian minimal pioneer Akufen (a.k.a. Horror, Inc.) and core Perlon member Sammy Dee. Support will be provided by Cyclone resident HAAS. A limited number of presales are still available for purchase via XLR8R; get them here.

And on Sunday, the radical queer techno series Ostbahnhof will touch down at a brand new open-air venue in Downtown LA for a special marathon event, lasting from 2PM Sunday afternoon until 6AM or later on Monday morning. The party, which is being held in honor of President’s Day and the ACLU, will feature 8 DJs from the likes of Making Shapes’ Jeniluv, Victor Rodriguez of Bears in Space, and Acid Camp’s Aaron Davis. Expect a range of quality underground electronic music, street vendors, free cava, and more. Tickets and details can be found here.

Ruven Preps EP for Dream Diary, Shares Track

Ruven is up next on Brixton collective Dream Diary.

The New York producer’s Pour /Jusamin 12″ follows Dream Diary releases from Afriqua, Tom Gillieron, and Richie Littler with two deep cuts that channel a minimalistic, Villalobos-esque sound palette and provide a “refined, elastic ode to early 2000s hip-hop.”

Like all of Dream Diary’s releases, Pour / Jusamin will be released as a limited edition 12″ with no digital release. You can pick the record up on February 23 and ahead of that release, you can stream “Pour” in full via the player below.

Objekt Returns with New 12″

TJ Hertz (a.k.a. Objekt) will soon release Objekt #4, his first release since 2014’s Flatland.

Objekt #4 is a continuation of his club-focused white-label series, launched in 2011, and a tribute to the sadly now defunct Basement Q, a formative and beloved haunt in Berlin’s Schöneberg district which quietly but profoundly shaped the musical identities of Hertz and several of his contemporaries until its final closure in 2012.

“There really was no place quite like it,” remembers Hertz. “Even in the later years when Joe [Call Super] and I would go, the sense of vitality was palpable; you had all these regulars who must all have been pushing 50 years old but still had more energy and passion than any 25-year-olds we knew at the time. God only knows what it must’ve been like in the ’80s when it opened.

“I think it changed a bit over the years but I know the horse fresco on the ceiling was there from the start and the custom-built soundsystem too. Bogdan, the sage and amiable but somehow kinda unhinged old Bulgarian dude that owned and built the place, he had this obsession with right angles; he hated them, said they were fascist or something. So everything was slightly askew and you never quite knew which direction was up, much less when he or Emil or one of the other residents were playing. It was disorientating and beautiful and in the midst of such an experience, your eyes would offer your brain no valid explanation for the wonderful confusion of sound that your ears were reporting. Meanwhile, this old, fabulous, rave-weathered crowd of 40 to 60 people would be gradually losing their shit, feet glued to the floor but bodies flailing as if caught in a hurricane. It was something else.”

Tracklisting

A. Needle & Thread
B. Theme From Q

Objekt #4 is scheduled for March 27 release.

A2 Takaaki Itoh “Monobehaviour”

Tale Of Us Announce Debut Album

Matteo Milleri and Carmine Conte (a.k.a. Tale Of Us) will release their long-awaited debut album, Endless, on March 31.

Endless, a 10-track LP, follows on from various EPs on various different labels, including VisionquestM_nus, and R&S Records—the latter of which was widely believed to be their home for their first LP, as discussed in our in-depth feature with the duo. Over the course of the past six years, the Italian Berlin-based duo has become one of the most widely known names in electronic music, lauded for their poignant and melodic take on traditional techno.

According to Deutsche Grammophon, who will release the LP, Endless fuses electronic synthesis with classical, ambient and film score music—describing it as “a haunting mix of otherworldly textures and melodies embedded in a contemporary sound.”
