Aphex Twin Plays Field Day 2017

Aphex Twin has been booked for Field Day 2017.

The performance will be Richard D. James’ first performance in his native UK for half a decade (his last being a DJ set, back in October 2012). He is the first artist to be announced by Field Day, and is booked in for a two-hour set at the festival’s new indoor arena, The Barn.

On the news, festival co-founder Tom Baker stated: “It’s truly amazing to have Aphex Twin headline Field Day, I’ve been listening to him since I was 16, he played and curated some of the first ever Eat Your Own Ears nights (the most memorable being a warehouse on Brick Lane that got closed down by the police!) so it’s an incredible honour to have him play.”

Prior to that gig, Aphex Twin will also perform at Day for Night in Texas this December.

Field Day will take place at London’s Victoria Park, on June 3, 2017. Tickets for the festival go on sale December 1 at 09:00 GMT.

Levon Vincent Cues Up New EP

Levon Vincent will release a new two-tracker later this week.

12″ NS-15 will drop on the DJ-producer’s Novel Sound imprint. It arrives at the end of a year in which Vincent has also put out two other records on the label—NS-12 and NS-14 (which includes his remix of “Tubular Bells”). The new addition is a two-tracker which pays homage to his place of residence, Berlin, and to his former stomping ground, New York.

NS-15 will be released on November 30. Pre-order it and check out snippets at Juno or Deejay.de.

New Burial EP Slips Out

A new Burial EP has surfaced.

The two-tracker, Young Death, has been listed on Discogs as the latest release from Hyperdub. If authentic, it will be the British producer’s first solo release of the year (following a collaboration with Zomby, also on Hyperdub).

According to Pitchfork, the EP was made public ahead of its planned release date due to a misunderstanding at Toronto record store Sonic Boom. An employee explained that five copies of Young Death were sold “accidentally.” Due to misleading packaging, the staff had “assumed it was a Black Friday secret listing.” He also stated that they had subsequently received a call from a Hyperdub representative, who was “not happy” about the premature sales.

The Discogs listing suggests that Young Death will be released on November 30, though this is yet to be confirmed.

Thorsteinssøn ‘Not Really’

Iceland-born-Denmark-bred Gunnar Thor Viggosson is probably most known as one-half of 76-79 with Tommy Vicari Jnr, but it’s as Thorsteinssøn that Viggosson released his latest album, Academy Of Heroes, on Pets Recordings.

The sprawling Academy Of Heroes is inspired by Solar Industry Radio, a creative project in which Viggosson would begin with a made up artist or band name, then the artwork, and then the music—in styles and genres ranging from cosmic funk to Scandinavian disco and ambient noise collages. From these experiments, Viggosson and Pets collated the 14 tracks that make up the immersive Academy Of Heroes.

In celebration of the album’s release, Viggosson and Pets have shared bonus cut “Not Really” as today’s XLR8R download. With its sun-tinged synths, swinging percussion, and strutting bassline, “Not Really” is about as funky a track as you’ll likely hear in the house spectrum. William Djoko ‘Dirty Talk’ (MaSpaventi Loops Mix)

William Djoko is no stranger to Tom Trago‘s Voyage Direct. Having first appeared on the label way back in 2012, he’s returned numerous times since, becoming an integral member of the imprint’s growing family of artists. Elsewhere, he’s delivered material on Tuskegee, Mobilee and Leftroom, amongst others, developing an approach that takes inspiration from numerous styles of house and techno.

Returning to the label with Dirty Talk, he delivers a two-track EP, featuring remixes by Tom Trago and Boris Werner. Up today, however, as one of today’s XLR8R free downloads is a remix by MaSpaventi—available now via the WeTransfer button below.

Following on from his Unknown To The Unknown EP at the beginning of the year iO Mulen (real name Aleksandr Voznichenko) will return to Apollonia Music with the Letters and Numbers EP this coming December.

The hefty six-track package—which fits in with both his groovy sound aesthetic and that of the label—will mark the end of a fine year for the Kiev-based artist, one that has included EPs on Memoria Recordings and Overall Music, besides Apollonia.

Edit Select & Antonio Ruscito‘sVisitors – Projections will be released tomorrow, November 25, via Edit Select Records.

The 10-track LP will be the first time veteran DJ and producer Tony Scott (a.k.a. Edit Select) has collaborated with Italy’s Antonio Ruscito, who is most known for standout releases on Concrete Records, Circular Limited, Kabalion, and, most recently, Edit Select Records.

Visitors – Projections finds the pair in fine form, crafting beautifully evolving structures and dense atmospheres across the album’s 10 haunting tracks. Scott and Ruscito employ snaking analog lines and winding melodies to inject a host of emotion into the soundtrack-like album. It’s a welcome return for Edit Select and another feather in the cap for Antonio Ruscito, who is proving he is one of techno’s brightest stars.

untold. ‘Date’ (Original Mix)

After releasing their first EP in June on the Hamburg-based label Nobiz Records, the young and recently founded duo untold. from Germany have been productive in the studio. The goal has been to “combine energetic grooves with lush atmospheres in a techno and tech house context.”

After a widely successful XLR8R debut in August, new tracks “Date” aims to “juxtapose dreamy, atmospheric synth work and dry, direct drums.” While still being fit for a club environment, it shows a more sensitive and thought-provoking side as the track develops.
