Jami Bassols has been a close member of Hivern since its beginnings as one half of Aster. Now, following the release of Noche/ Templo, his two acclaimed edits for NVH, he returns to the label with his solo debut as JMII.
The four-tracker, which is released today, includes a Christian S remix, while the digital version includes an edit from label boss, John Talabot.

Levon Vincent has today released his first EP of 2016.
NS-12 dropped into Rubadub today (the Glasgow-based record store and distributor who handle Vincent’s Novel Sound output). It’s his first new release since last year’s split EP with Marcel Dettmann, NS-10 T. Rex Edition, and is made up of four untitled cuts that follow on in much the same vein.
NS-12 can be purchased via Rubadub now (where you can also stream snippets from all four cuts).
Hans-Peter Lindstrøm (a.k.a Lindstrøm) is set to release Windings, a new EP via his Feedelity imprint.
The three-tracker will be the Norwegian producer’s second record of the year, following the one-track single “Closing Shot,” which is included on the Windings release.
Each track is comprised of that now-classic sound closely associated with Lindstrøm’s name: skyward synths, effervescent rhythms, and melodies that spiral beautifully into the great unknown.

New York-based trio N/UM tick a lot of boxes between themselves: alongside a five-time Grammy award-winning mastering engineer (who spent years DJing in the cities underground scene), is a guitarist and bass player with a decade of experience in improvised performance, as well as singer-songwriter with a background in orchestration and composition.
Listening to their debut EP together on Mexican label Duro, Zebra, you get a real sense of the appropriation of those skills. Recorded in one take during a single session back in November of last year, the seven-tracker was improvised entirely, recorded as one lengthy live set with each track flowing into the next (the group had been inspired by jazz musicians of the late 20th century, and the idea that every performance creates a new suite). Bashed out using a mixture of string instruments, vocals, analog synthesizers, and drum machines, they used that background to create a record that falls somewhere between minimal house and techno.
Up for download this week is “Chinook”—a short, snappy insight into the musical style of the New Yorkers. Across the three minute jam, weird-out vocal snippets rush over bouncy percussion, with an end product that is totally dancefloor ready. It sits comfortably amongst the other six cuts, all of which have quite a different flavour, testifying to the artists’ varied and accomplished backgrounds.

Geir Jenssen (a.k.a. Biosphere) has announced that he will be reissuing his 1994 album Patashnik this June.
Norwegian producer Jenssen kicked off his work as Biosphere in the early ’90s with a string of ambient records renowned for their icy, slightly unsettling qualities, of which Patashnik was the first full-length (following his more techno-oriented debut LP, Microgravity, which also got the reissue treatment last year). It was originally released via Apollo, but will be re-released via Jenssen’s own Biophon this June, with an accompanying bonus disc of new material.
Patashnik will be re-issued on June 10 as a double vinyl pack, CD and digital album, and can be pre-ordered via Biosphere’s Bandcamp (where full streams of the tracks are also available).
David Kennedy (a.k.a. Pearson Sound) will release his first new EP of the year in late July.
Earlier this week, Kennedy quietly slipped title track “XLB” onto his Soundcloud (which is also available to purchase from Bandcamp now). He has now revealed that it is set to form half of a two-track EP, due to drop on his self-titled imprint later in June, with a new track entitled “Tsunan Sun” on the flip. It will be the Hessle Audio co-founder’s fifth release via his own label, which was launched back in 2012 and has since dripped out one new record each year.

Clocking in at just over 30 minutes, Bok Bok‘s second Essentials installment gets straight to the point. Since founding Night Slugs in 2010, the London native has been at the forefront of the U.K.’s new wave of club producers, who have been perpetually redefining their national sound. With cuts from Girl Unit, Flirta D, and Tink, the new mix also fits cohesively into his idiosyncratic discography, which takes inspiration from instrumental grime, Jersey club, R&B, and more.

Since their meteoric rise to become one of the world’s largest music distributors—now trailing only behind YouTube—SoundCloud has recently become the target of a bevy of criticisms for their increasingly stringent enforcement of copyright laws. These changes are affecting DJs in particular, who have been grappling with deleted mixes and account strikes more in the past year than ever before. With mounting pressure from third-party mega labels as well as a rapidly expanding number of community members, SoundCloud has found themselves in a serious bind: avoid the inevitable lawsuits while alienating a large chunk of content creators, or keep members happy while subjecting themselves to serious financial loss.
As disaffected community members can attest to, the platform has adopted the first approach almost exclusively. In the wake of these tensions, Spotify has announced a deal with mixed-audio distribution service Dubset in order to mitigate many of the problems that SoundCloud hasn’t been able to work through. In theory, the deal will satisfy users and artists with a significantly more stable platform while putting disgruntled labels at ease with a more organized system of compensation.
Pat Shah, head of original content licensing at Spotify, explained, “We look forward to working with Dubset and the biggest and best DJs in the world to continue to lead the industry by providing our consumers with the best content available in the market.”
The latest release from the fresh and assuring Sydney-based imprint Moonshoe Records comes from Freda, a young DJ-producer with a suave and effervescent house sound that is, in our humble opinion, beyond noteworthy. The label is run by Freda’s collaborative partner Jackson, both of whom have released singles together via their imprint and can often be found going b2b at various venues scattered around Sydney. As Freda and Jackson continue to work on a collaborative EP while simultaneously figuring out how to perfect their live setup, Freda’s first ever solo EP MSH001 (which was released yesterday) has already begun to take off and bring further attention to both their music label and Sydney’s ever-expanding music scene.
To help celebrate this fact, Moonshoe has offered up the EP cut “Amwa” as today’s XLR8R download. Kicking off with pliable percussion and crafty synth patterns, “Amwa” progresses into a hearty dance track with an absorbing groove and seamless variation that will keep you captivated from start to finish.
