Recondite Returns to Hotflush

Scuba’s Hotflush will release the next EP by German producer Lorenz Brunner (a.k.a. Recondite) later this month, a two-tracker entitled Phalanx / Warg.

Since his last release through Hotflush in 2014 (the Caldera EP), Brunner has been very busy, putting out two full-lengths via Innervisions and Absurd Recordings, as well as a host of other EPs on the likes of Life & Death and Dystopian. He returns to Scuba’s imprint for his next EP, a two-tracker that the label describes as “deep, sinewy techno set with a genuine sense of intrigue, both cuts flood the dance floor with an unsettling warmth.”

Varhat Announces New EP; Stream Snippets Here

French producer Varhat has revealed details of his next release, dropping via Howl late this March.

Howl is a vinyl-only imprint that was set up last year, and has so far put out releases by the Howl Ensemble, and Verrina & Ventura (as well as a mysterious unknown artist). Next up is Frenchman Varhat, with their fourth release, Quattro. It is a typically groovy two-tracker packed with house beats, which flies out after a couple of other releases by him earlier this year on Mulen and Aku.

Daniel Haaksman “Rename the Streets” (Dotorado Remix)

Having recently dropped his second studio album African Fabrics on February 26 through his Man Recordings imprint, the widely respected Berlin-based artist Daniel Haaksman further proved his ability to expand his worldly sound into new, exciting, danceable territory. Wielding a heavy African influence, the title of the album pays homage to British-Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare, whose work consists of “draping African fabrics on Victorian figures in a reflection on colonialism and post-colonialism.” Hailed as an “ambassador for the urban sounds of Brazil,” Haaksman has melded Rio and Berlin’s musical influences into a unique blend sound that is all of his own making. African Fabrics marks the producers migration towards styles of music such as Afrobeat, Kuduro, Kwaito, Chimurenga, and beyond.

Today, Haaksman has offered up a remix of his track “Rename The Streets” from the Lisbon-based producer Dotorado as an XLR8R download. Using distinct Angolan rhythms and marimba sounds, Dotorado’s remix is a stripped down and repetitive jam with a high-tinged and somewhat off-kilter tropical feel that possesses intriguing yet promising dancefloor potential.

Desert Hearts Announces Spring Festival Lineup; Shares New Mix

Desert Hearts is a grassroots movement that encompasses bi-yearly festivals, one-off parties, and a free record label. Taking huge strides since its inception in 2012, the collectives’ roaming City Hearts party has landed in Brooklyn, Miami, Chicago, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Houston, and Tulum, Mexico.

Desert Hearts has now announced the lineup for this year’s Spring Festival, set to take place between April 1-4 at the Los Coyotes Reservation in California. The lineup includes exalted acts such as DJ Harvey, Extrawelt (LIVE), Butch, Super Flu, Manik, YokoO, Atish, Jozif, Heartthrob, Patrice Baumel, and many more.

Premiere: Hear a New Planningtorock Remix

Berlin-based darkwave act Evvol—a duo comprised of Irish singer Julie Chance and Australian multi-instrumentalist Jane Arnison— released its debut LP, Eternalism, in July of last year. Operating in pop music’s dark corners, Eternalism introduced the world to a sound that is anchored in industrial-tinged experimentalism and neo-noir electronica.

In support of Evvol’s forthcoming EP, Physical L.U.V.—which will be released via !K7 Records on May 13—English musician and performer Planningtorock has applied her left-field touch to “Sola,” the second cut from Eternalism. Infusing the track with a quirky gallop, Planningtorock pitches down the vocals into woozy territory, adding a danceable rhythm to the slow-burning original, as she explains:

“I loved how Julie and Jane’s voices sounded pitched down – they suddenly got this super soft and sultry quality that together with the cheeky flutes and fast rhythm sounded great.”

Ahead of the release of Physical L.U.V., you can stream Planningtorock’s remix of “Sola” via the player above—which features a haunting artwork by Stefan Fähler.

Stream the Title Track from Com Truise’s Forthcoming EP

The vivid, synthetic, and sci-fi inspired artist Seth Haley (a.k.a Com Truise) has announced his third EP, Silicon Tare, which is set to land on April 1 via Ghostly International. In addition to this, Haley has embarked a massive US tour with STRFKR that will hit thirty-eight diffrent locations all over the states between February 10 – May 28.

Fernando Costantini “Smoothie Cucumber”

Belgium born and raised artist Fernando Costantini has been infatuated with music from a very tender age, in part due to his very musical household. It was his brother’s love and passion for electronic music in particular, that made him fall in love with the art of djing, instilling in him a curiosity for the craft since the age of eight. Costantini’s passion only grew more throughout the years, leading him to amass a large collection of disco, jazz, soul and funk records that he would find in second hand record markets. It wasn’t until Costantini met two key figures and already established djs, tINI and Anthea, that he would consider turning his passion into an actual profession. Soon after these encounters, Costantini’s first release landed on Karton and later on his music also made a few appearances on Brouqade Records—the label run by Anthea and German artist Dana Ruh—among many other respected labels. Aside from all his releases, Fernando Costantini has also recently landed a residency at Brussel’s Fuse club, playing alongside fellow rising talent, John Dimas.

Following up on the Moments EP, released earlier last month via Brouqade, Costantini now offers up a track titled “Smoothie Cucumber” as an exclusive XLR8R download.

Phantasy’s Daniel Avery has this week offered up the latest in Dekmantel’s revered podcast series, their 60th edition and Avery’s first mix in nearly a year.

Dekmantel had this to say… “Just a few years ago, Daniel Avery emerged from a famous Scrutton Street studio where the likes of Andrew Weatherall and Timothy J FairPlay were regulars. Since then, he has gone his own way, releasing a machine-made, proudly analog brand of indie-electro-techno-dance music that has come mostly on Erol Alkan’s Phantasy Sound label. Mixing dark beats with dense and smoky synth atmospheres as both a DJ and producer, he knows how to cook up a metallic and menacing groove with aplomb. After impressing with his debut album, Drone Logic, in 2013, we’re proud to invite him to this year’s Lente Kabinet, Dekmantel Festival (together with Roman Flügel), and our mix series.
