Take a Look Inside Massimiliano Pagliara’s Home Studio

Italian producer, Live at Robert Johnson regular, and former Get Familiar subject Massimiliano Pagliara has opened up the doors to his home studio. Located in a top-floor apartment in Berlin’s Friedrichshain neighborhood, Pagliara’s hardware-stuffed creative space is the latest subject of Resident Advisor‘s Machine Love feature series, which not time around not only includes an extensive collection of photographs of the studio space and an in-depth interview with the producer himself, but also features a handful of videos which show various pieces from Pagliara’s enviable collection of hardware in action. Nuits Sonores Reveals Final Line-Up Additions

After last month’s initial details from the Lyon, France festival, the full line-up for Nuits Sonores‘ upcoming 13th edition has been revealed. Adding to the curated daytime events from Jamie xx, John Talabot, and Ben Klock, the festival has now announced its evening programming, which will be held at Ancien Marché de Gros (formerly a wholesale market). Starting on May 13, the first night will see Tale of Us on one stage with Nils Frahm (pictured above), Recondite, and Agoria and Mano Le Tough in a back-to-back set; on another stage, Daniel Avery will headline a bill with Factory Floor, Answer Code Request, Voices from the Lake, and KiNK. A third stage will feature Eastern electronic styles from Baris K’s Insanlar project.

On Thursday, May 14, Nuits Sonores’ evening shows will take place at venues across Lyon and featuring the likes of Gerd Janson, Low Jack, Ghostpoet, DJ Qu, and many others. Friday night’s events will exhibit Detroit talent, including legends like Carl Craig and Moodymann. Finally, Saturday’s showcase will feature veterans The Orb and Laurent Garnier alongside live standout Jon Hopkins. The complete lineup for this year’s Nuits Sonores festival can be found here. Orlando Volcano “Worst Night in New York So Far”

A Brooklyn transplant (by way of Europe), Orlando Volcano has let loose a handful of new tracks over the past week, with the final piece of the puzzle being the subdued “Worst Night in New York So Far” production. A hybrid affair, “Worst Night in New York So Far” appears to take a few cues from the Fade to Mind camp’s brand of club music, while also incorporating some elements from the more ethereal side of the Tri Angle spectrum. Led by a charging procession of rolling snares, the track utilizes snippets of choir-like voices and reverb-soaked bells to provide the melodic balance to the tune’s sparse hats and dark, bellowing bassline. “Worst Night in New York So Far” can be downloaded in full below, while Orlando Volcano’s other recent free offerings (“Neva Gonna Put U Down” and “Tool & Die”) can both be picked up via the artist’s SoundCloud.

Dusky’s 17 Steps Label Preps New EP from Christian Piers

After launching the 17 Steps imprint with an EP of its own last July, enterprising UK pair—and former Artist Tips contributors—Dusky have announced plans to release the label’s first record from an outside artist in the form of Christian Piers‘ Beat Wiser EP. The UK producer (who serves as half of the Laszlo Dancehall project alongside Leon Vynehall and has also operated under the name A1 Bassline) will deliver three new productions on the upcoming effort, all off which are said to have served “regular fixtures” in Dusky’s recent DJ sets. Furthermore, the pair describes the EP’s title track and “Onn” productions as “club tools in the best sense; precision engineered, weighty grooves with plenty of unique touches to hold the interest,” while the record’s lead track is said to “harken back to classic techno drum tracks, but with a sharp UK angle.”

Piers’ Beat Wiser EP is slated to land via 17 steps on March 16; in the meantime, the record’s artwork is included above and its tracklist can be found below.

John Daly Details Upcoming EP for Running Back

After being profiled in a recent Get Familiar piece, Irish producer John Daly has shared details of his forthcoming record for Gerd Janson’s Running Back label. As we alluded to in our recent feature on Daly, the artist’s upcoming 11 51 36 41 2 EP will consist of five simply titled techno productions which float just above the 130-bpm range, representing somewhat uncharted territory for the increasingly active Daly, who has built up much of his reputation as a producer of lush, chord-soaked house constructions.

Daly’s debut effort for Janson’s esteemed imprint does not have an exact release date at this time, though it is expected to arrive in the coming weeks. In the meantime, the artwork and tracklist for Daly’s 11 51 36 41 2 EP have both been included below.

Glacial “Wisteria”

From the sound of “Wisteria,” the Greek pair behind Glacial could not have chosen a more fitting name. Consisting of Greek techno/house producer Giorgos Lemos (who operates simply as Lemos) and saxophonist/experimental artist Ilan Manouach, the group is set to release a new EP via the Athens-based six d.o.g.s., Entropy, which will serve as the Glacial project’s first release since issuing its self-titled debut LP in 2012. Ahead of the EP’s release later this month, Glacial has offered up the aforementioned “Wisteria” production as a free download to XLR8R readers. A dreamy dancefloor excursion that spans over seven minutes, “Wisteria” is propelled forward by deep, rolling rhythms, which serve as the foundation for the track’s enveloping layers of detailed textures, dense atmospherics, and dubbed hits. Glacial’s “Wisteria” can be downloaded below before the pair’s Entropy EP lands on February 23; preview snippets of the Greek outfit’s upcoming EP have also been included below.

John Barera Releases New Collaborative EP; Stream It In Full Now

After delivering the standout Graceless LP alongside Will Martin via Steffi’s Dolly label last year, Boston-based producer John Barera has today dropped a new collaborative effort, the Sheffield Scene EP. Billed as a release from “John Barera & Friends,” the four-track record incorporates a number of collaborators including Antom M, Ali Berger, Baltimoroder, and Walter Merlin Jones.

Landing today via fledgling Boston label Zakim—through which Barrera has released two similarly collaborative releases in the past—the full Sheffield Scene EP can be streamed below.

DVS1’s Mistress Recordings Readies EP Trilogy

After becoming the subject of a new mini-documentary just yesterday, today brings more news from Minneapolis techno don Zak Khutoretsky (a.k.a. DVS1), who has announced that his Mistress label will release a trilogy of EPs later this month.

The three 12″s will all have the same catalogue number (Mistress05), and will be titled Mistress 5.1 (The Blonde), Mistress 5.2 (The Brunette), and Mistress 5.3 (The Redhead). Each will take shape as a compilation EP, with The Blonde featuring cuts from Jonas Friedlich, ASOK, Nicson & An Gelo and Kirill Mamin, The Brunette gathering tracks from Ombossa, Jerome Baker, Juxta Position and Discrete Circuit, and The Redhead featuring work by Nutype, Mike Gervais, Opinion and A&S. The full trilogy of EPS will see its official release on February 24 via Mistress; each record’s full tracklist has been included below.

Infamous Boogieman “Boys Club”

Canada’s ASL Singles Club outpost is set to add a new EP to its fast-growing catalog next month in the form of a four-track effort from Brooklyn artist Infamous Boogieman. Ahead of its release, the label has passed along the Boogieman EP’s closing cut, “Boys Club,” as a first taste. Peppered with chirpy field recordings, the production comes built on the back of a clattering drum machine rhythm, on top of which Infamous Boogieman lays a handful of airy chords and occasional spurts of slap bass. The brisk closing cut from the Brooklyn artist’s forthcoming Boogieman EP can be downloaded below before the full effort lands on March 17.

Tessela Reveals Upcoming EP for R&S

UK artist Tessela will return to the R&S label—who has issued his Nancy’s Pantry and Rough 2 records in recent years—with the Bottom Out EP next month. Joining two original productions from Tessela on the record will be a remix by Livity Sound co-head and recent XLR8R podcast contributor Kowton, who has been enlisted to deliver a “OTT Mix” version the EP’s title track.

Said to find Tessela “further deconstructing and stripping back his sound” (and to have been partially inspired by “a frenetic session in the days after hearing Ben UFO’s Fabric Birthday party DJ set”), the three-track Bottom Out EP will see its official release on March 24. In the meantime, the forthcoming record’s artwork and tracklist have been included below.
