Andrés Preps New 12″; Preview It Now

Seasoned Detroit house producer Andrés has announced that he will release a new single via his own La Vida label in March. The man behind 2012’s all-conquering “New For U” has been relatively quiet on the release front since that track’s release, though he did collaborate with Moodymann last year on the track “Lyk U Used 2,” and has remained active under his hip-hop alias, DJ Dez.

Previews of the three soul-washed tracks that make up Andrés’ forthcoming Believin’ 12″ can be heard now over at the FIT Distribution site, and unsurprisingly, they seem to suggest the Motor City veteran is very much sticking with the warm house sound that has long been his trademark. Ahead of its release next month, the forthcoming record’s tracklist has also been included below.

Nick Höppner Announces Upcoming Debut Album for Ostgut Ton; Hear a Track Now

A longtime Panorama Bar resident and former label manager of the Ostgut Ton imprint (he stepped down from the position in late 2012), Nick Höppner has announced he will return to his home label next month to issue his debut full-length release, Folk. The forthcoming LP is said to be “a deeply personal and intimate album created for everyone,” with its nine tracks having been recorded in Höppner’s Berlin studio throughout 2014.

“I decided to call my album Folk because I feel that we all work with a sonic vocabulary that was developed by a relatively small set of pioneers 20 or 30 years ago who took their cues from disco, which was influenced by R&B, Funk, Soul, etc, down to the most primal ritualism of tribal drums,” Höppner explains. “I also called this [LP] Folk as the blueprint of this music was laid out on what were originally cheap instruments from a dusty thrift store, he continues. “In 1985, the TB-303 was the equivalent of a worn out acoustic guitar. Today this is reflected by the immense and accessible power of creation found in a $500 laptop running a crack of Reason or Ableton.”

With all that in mind, Höppner’s debut LP is set to land via Ostgut Ton on March 30. In the meantime, the German producer has let loose a full stream of LP cut “Rising Overheads,” which has been included below along with the upcoming album’s complete tracklist.

Dizzy Womack “Flares”

Based in the Austrian city of Graz, Dizzy Womack has steadily built up his catalog of productions over the past few years, placing EPs on both Top Billin’ and Discobelle, amongst other endeavors. Later this year, the burgeoning Womack plans to issue a concept EP of sorts, but before then, he has passed along “Flares,” a deep club track which drizzles an array of cosmic chords atop its sturdy four-on-the-floor. “Flares” isn’t without its twists though; halfway through its seven-minute run, the track turns its aims towards a more sparse dancefloor structure, adding a few spacey bell hits and extra percussion knocks before again diving back into its sweeping chords.

DVS1 Retraces His Roots in New Documentary

Zak Khutoretsky (a.k.a. DVS1) is the subject of the latest installment in Resident Advisor‘s Origins documentary series (an effort done in partnership with Sonos). Over the course of the 30-minute film, Khutoretsky discusses his early upbringing; the son of Russian immigrants (who split up shortly after landing in Minneapolis), Khutoretsky spent much of his adolescence in and out of trouble, constantly switching schools, and eventually being arrested for some of his activities. Meanwhile, Khutoretsky had begun to steadily increasing his musical efforts, first throwing illegal parties and raves, before eventually moving on to more legitimate efforts and—for a short time—owning a club of his own in Minneapolis.

Damu Returns to Keysound with New 12″

Damu will return to Keysound for the first time in four years with the Holed up in the Hovel EP. Stylistically aligned with “something like grime,” the forthcoming effort was reportedly inspired by the UK producer’s move to Croydon and its local club scene, and spans four new “sour sound” constructions. “This EP started as war dubs for Keysound nights,” explains Damu. “I really like the competitive vibe of the scene in London and I worked on the EP across Manchester, Sheffield, and Croydon from 2013 to 2014.”

“Since my debut album my wiring has changed completely,” he continues. “It’s the sonics of individual sounds that gets me hyped now, and I think this EP reflects a bit more of a mathematical approach to music-making.”

Holed up in the Hovel follows from two previous outings for Keysound (2011’s Unity LP and the Ridin’ 12″) and is officially due out on February 23. No previews have been shared as of yet, but the EP’s artwork has been included above and its complete tracklist can be found below.

Kito Jempere “Järvi (Selvy Interpretation)”

In April of last year, Russian producer Kito Jempere (pictured above) released his debut full-length, Objects, via his own Fata Morgana label. Now, Jempere has enlisted a crew of artists to help him revisit Objects for a forthcoming remix EP which will feature the likes of Jacques Renault, HNNY, Inkswel, and Polish newcomer Selvy, whose take on Jempere’s “Järvi” is featured here. Billed as an “interpretation,” Selvy reshapes the dark and loose track into a much breezier affair, one pushed forward by a light disco bounce and kept afloat by a steady stream of tropical chords and lively percussion hits. Selvy’s contribution to the upcoming Objects Remixes collection can be downloaded below, while the rest of the EP (officially out next week) can be previewed via the player included here.

Download Levon Vincent’s Debut Album for Free

In a surprise move, Levon Vincent has offered up his debut self-titled album as a free download. News of the esteemed Berlin-based DJ/producer’s first full-length effort surfaced back in January, with details of the record—released via Vincent’s own Novel Sound label—regularly cropping up on his Facebook. This afternoon, Vincent posted a download link to his wall along with a message thanking his many supporters over the years. “This is music for the ugly ducklings of the world. Music for swans,” he concludes. “If you’re a member of the rat race, climbing around a dumpster with the other rats vying for power, you may of course listen, but know—this is not music for you. This is action against you.”

Stream and Download New Sessions from The Black Madonna and Mood Hut

The Black Madonna has turned out the latest mix in Dutch label Dekmantel‘s recently launched podcast series. The Chicago DJ/producer and Smart Bar booker has released her signature sample-heavy disco-house via Argot, Stripped & Chewed, and The Nite Owl Diner, in addition to logging frequent DJ appearances throughout Europe and the US. This latest session is described as a “kinetic and athletic mix that goes from deep and heady to jump-up and jacking, from diva vocals to dazzling disco… that both starts and ends with a fat-bottomed reggae swagger.” No tracklist is provided, but the nearly 70-minute recording can be streamed and downloaded below.

The interest generated around Vancouver’s apparent house renaissance over the past year has been hard to ignore, with party-turned-label collective Mood Hut among its primary ambassadors. Local retailer Pacific Rhythm has championed output from Mood Hut’s members first as an online supplier, and more recently as an imprint, with Cloudface and Hashman Deejay appearing on its inaugural compilation. Earlier this month, Pacific Rhythm announced it would also be opening a physical outlet (located at 441 Gore Avenue), which launched yesterday with an in-store party featuring Mood Hut fixtures Hashman Deejay, XLR8Rfavorites Pender Street Steppers, and Neo Image. The six-hour session was broadcast live and can be streamed in its entirety below.

The low-rumbling “Pixação” serves as our first introduction to Venuq, a Leeds-based newcomer who also contributes to the Rhodo Dendron project alongside fellow UK producer Bambooman. A gloomy production, “Pixação” teeters on a heavy-handed stomp, adding a growling bassline and a continuous supply of textured field recordings and dubby chords to the mix across the track’s five-minute run. “Pixação,” the budding Venuq’s introduction to the XLR8R faithful, can be downloaded in full below.

Kyle Hall Launches New Label; Stream a Track from K15’s Inaugural Release

Kyle Hall has launched a sister label to Wild Oats called No Room for Air, with the first record coming from K15 (a.k.a. Kieron Ifill). The London producer—who we profiled as part of our Get Familiar series back in October—held down a six-year residency at Jazz Café and issued EPs via WotNot and Wild Oats proper before arriving on No Room for Air. His upcoming Mist 7″ for the fledgling Detroit imprint comprises three soulful house originals, and while some copies have already turned up at select retailers, the EP (tracklist below) is officially due out on February 16. Until then, its a-side title track can be streamed in full below, courtesy of Boiler Room Debuts.
