The Juan MacLean has disclosed details for a third full-length album, due out in early fall via longstanding label home DFA. In 2005, Nancy Whang’s and Juan MacLean’s debut LP, Less Than Human, collected favorable reactions across the board, as did its follow-up album, The Future Will Come, which arrived four years later. Since then, the two artists have steadily issued a series of singles via DFA, and their forthcoming long-player will reportedly build on the pair’s signature alchemy of electro, disco, techno, and house. Produced with an abundance of vintage synthesizers, this new album is playfully being described as “the Nancy Show,” as Whang’s vocals are said to capture a prominent lead throughout the record.

In a Dream officially lands on September 15 in Europe, and the following day in North America. For now, however, the video for the first single, “A Place Called Space,” can be watched below, where a full LP tracklist has also been included.

Now approaching its sixth year in operation, Leisure System has unveiled an upcoming label compilation in tandem with a new mix from co-founder Sam Barker (a.k.a. Barker, one half of techno duo Barker & Baumecker), available for free download. The Berlin-based outfit has built a reputation for distorting assumptions about what works as club music, with a roster of releases ranging from JETS to Visionist. The Leisure System Data.01 compilation will be issued at the end of the month in the form of a limited edition, acrylic glass SD card, featuring 17 unreleased tracks included in Barker’s recent mix for Resident Advisor (detailed below), as well as additional selections from the leftfield label’s back catalog.

Barker’s Leisure System mix can be downloaded via RA (at the bottom of the site’s recent feature on the label), though obtaining a tracklist is something of a scavenger hunt. According to Barker, throughout Friday of this week, artists featured in the mix will reveal their involvement through a coded system of hashtags posted to their social networks. Using the hashtag code #LSR-LSD1 followed by #ID[track number], listeners will be routed to the profile of the artist who contributed the track. (In short, they’re making us work for it.)

Seeing as Leisure System originated as a promotional force and continues to put on regular events, the label will fittingly mark its sixth anniversary on July 11 at Berlin monolith Berghain/Panorama Bar, with Andy Stott, Boddika, Holly Herndon, and Leon Vynehall among others slated to make appearances; more information can be found here.

A collaborative effort between burgeoning NYC producer (and organizer of Brooklyn’s Mutual Dreaming parties) Aurora Halal and longtime music writer and promoter Zara Wladawsky, the first-ever Sustain-Release festival is set to take place in upstate New York this September. Said to have been influenced by the pair’s “formative experiences at various UK camping festivals… and private parties in the woods,” the new festival will take place at a 500-capacity summer camp near the Catskills Mountains in Wurtsboro, New York, and will offer those attending shared cabins, heated pools, a lake, and a bonfire in addition to a solid line-up of forward-thinking electronic acts.

Sustain-Release’s bill so far includes hardware aficionados such as Xosar and Blondes, as well as New Jersey talent Joey Anderson (pictured above) and Detroit producer MGUN. In addition, former Sandwell District member Rrose, Underground Quality boss DJ Jus-Ed, White Material affiliate Morgan Louis, and Aurora Halal herself are set to perform at the three-day festival, with more artists set to fill out the bill in the months to come. Matrixxman (a.k.a. Charles McCloud Duff) has been somewhat of a fixture on XLR8R pages of late; the San Francisco-based producer recently contributed an exclusive mix for our podcast series, and gained further momentum with releases on Spectral Sound and Ultramajic. Now, the Soo Wavey co-head has detailed another upcoming EP, set to debut next week on Pleasurekraft’s Kraftek label. The Spell showcases his aptitude for crafting drum-machine-driven club tracks, and its lead cut, streaming below, delivers an effective slice of cleanly engineered, techno-flavored house music.

The Spell is officially due to arrive on June 30 and features recent Hotflush contributor Phil Kieran on a remix of the title track.

San Francisco-based DJ/producer Ghosts on Tape (a.k.a. Ryan Merry) has detailed an upcoming release for Icee Hot, the third in what seems to be an annual tradition since the label launched back in 2012. “Only Now” b/w “Snake Box” finds the Bay Area artist building on his signature command of rhythmic interplay, and features Chicago duo Innerspace Halflife on remix duties. Icee Hot originated as a party co-run by Merry (full disclosure: XLR8R editor Shawn Reynaldo also has a hand in its operation) before expanding into a fully fledged label operation, and has since overseen releases from artists like Bobby B, Grown Folk, Avalon Emerson, Contakt, and Lando Kal, as well as Merry’s own productions.

Since launching the Roland Rocha Records (or simply R3) label back in April, Edinburgh transplant Rolando has already issued two EPs via the outpost, with a third now set to land next month. On the forthcoming FGR EP, the techno veteran and former member of Detroit’s Underground Resistance collective will present a pair of dense constructions led by the lush, rolling title track, “FGR,” and backed by the dark and propulsive b-side “Mood Maker.” Before Rolando’s FGR EP sees its official release on July 28, both upcoming EP cuts can be previewed below.

Following the release of Laszlo Dancehall’s LZD III EP in May (a record which is streaming in full here), George FitzGerald’s ManMakeMusic label has announced plans for London producer Shenoda to return to the fold with his Who Ver? EP next month. The three-track affair will serve as the UK talent’s second outing for the label, having issued his Leslie Crowther EP via the imprint last year. Shenoda’s upcoming effort for George Fitzgerald’s label is described as “a typically varied release… pitching Shenoda’s old-school influences alongside his accomplished production that’s fit for any sound system of the present.” While no audio has been made available for the upcoming release as of yet, the artwork and tracklist for Shenoda’s Who Ver? EP can be found below before the record officially drops on July 28.
