Lapalux Announces North American Tour

Beginning later this month, UK producer Lapalux will embark on his second North American tour, with stops at Moogfest, Low End Theory, and beyond. The 11-date voyage will see the Brainfeeder affiliate perform on both US coasts while also heading up to Montreal and Toronto to make this a proper North American trip. Lapalux is said to be in the midst of finishing up his second LP (his debut full-length, Nostalchic, landed just over a year ago), and will be “road testing new material” throughout his upcoming dates. Watch New DJ Sets from Daphni, Four Tet, and Pearson Sound

Captured during a recent live Just Jam broadcast, new DJ sets from Daphni (a.k.a. Caribou, pictured above), Four Tet, and Pearson Sound are now available online to watch in full. Dan Snaith (the man behind both the Daphni and Caribou projects) provides the broadcast’s first set, which finds the Canadian producer/musician/DJ sifting through vintage African music and percussion-fueled house. The 35-minute set also finds Snaith continually twiddling with an intriguing tabletop synth sitting next to the decks, which helps provide a layer of entrancing bleeps and bloops throughout his mix.

Taking over the latter half of the session, Four Tet’s and Pearson Sound’s mixes follow similarly adventurous paths while an array of sometimes psychedelic, sometimes just plain bizarre visuals are displayed in the background. The Just Jam sets from all three artists can be watched in full below.

Horse Meat Disco Announces Fourth Compilation

Three years after the third installment of its eponymous compilation series, acclaimed London DJ crew and disco specialists Horse Meat Disco (a.k.a. James Hillard, Jim Stanton, Luke Howard, and Severino) has finally announced the impending release of Horse Meat Disco Volume IV. Due to hit the stands on June 16 via Strut, the fourth edition will arrive as a digital download, double-LP package, and two-disc set—the latter of which will offer a CD mixed by Horse Meat Disco, with the other feautring unmixed versions of most of the same tracks.

Before the release of its new comp, the Horse Meat Disco collective is currently in the midst of a tour through Europe and North America, which will last through September. The crew has also shared a taste of Horse Meat Disco IV with opening cut “Ain’t No Way (Special Club Mix)” by Opal, a funk-slathered jam sure to pique interests for the remainder of the double-disc set. Sage Caswell “Street Lite”

Budding Los Angeles producer Sage Caswell—who we deemed, alongside his frequent production partner Cromie, an up-and-coming artist to watch earlier this year—released a new EP this week via French outpost Decabaret. Though it doesn’t appear on Caswell’s new Tribute 2 CC Archer EP, “Street Lite” nonetheless proves a fine showcase of the dense and rugged brand of house the SoCal producer is fond of crafting. Built around a tough shuffle, the seven-minute tune weaves an unhurried path through hiss-lined percussion and dusty chord stabs, digging deeper with each passing bar. Check Out a New Mix from LV

It has truly been a while since we’ve heard from the Hyperdub-affiliated London DJ/production outfit LV: A year and a half ago, the group dropped its Subenza LP, and it was just over a year ago when the instrumental version of that record appeared. Now, the erstwhile trio has reformed as a duo, and come out of hiding to deliver its latest transmission, a brand-new mix which just so happens to feature LV’s impending new single for Keysound. The 50-minute session for i-D also boasts tunes from label mates such as Wen and E.M.M.A., in addition to choice globe-spanning cuts from Mickey Pearce, Madlib, Owiny Sigoma Band, John Wizards, Uproot Andy, Spoek Mathambo, and many others. LV’s Music To… Soundtrack Your Journeys arrives before the duo’s as-yet-unannounced collaborative single with Joshua Idehen, “Imminent,” drops in May via Keysound, and can be streamed in full below.

SOPHIE to Embark on North American Tour

SOPHIE seemingly popped up out of nowhere in 2013, but that didn’t stop his delightfully weird “Bipp” from becoming one of last year’s most unique and celebrated tunes. (XLR8R actually named it the year’s top track and also listed SOPHIE amongst 2013’s Best New Artists.) Despite all the accolades, the UK producer has managed to keep his identity under wraps, even as the volume of his live shows continues to steadily increase. Next month, the show will be touring North America for the first time. Mainly focusing on the coasts, Sophie will nevertheless be crisscrossing the continent for a little more than two weeks. Untold Shares Exclusive Track from Upcoming ‘Bleep:10’ Comp

Following exclusive new material from the likes of Fuck Buttons and Machinedrum, more unreleased music has arrived today from online music retailer Bleep‘s forthcoming 10th anniversary compilation, Bleep:10, in the form of a new production by Hemlock label boss and London bass innovator Untold. “That Horn Track” appears the day after the artist born Jack Dunning’s heavy remix for Perc hit the internet, and finds him equally experimental territory, obliterating as much of his tune’s drum patterns, samples, analog synth noises, and other sonic ephemera as he can get away with. The entirety of Untold’s exclusive cut for Bleep:10 can be streamed below, before the 14-track compilation arrives on May 5.

Hi-Five – Dauwd Selects His Favorite Tunes from the Kompakt Catalog

Dauwd isn’t a prolific artist. Since he first surfaced a few years back, the London-based producer has issued only a handful of releases, first via the Pictures Music label and later for Ghostly International. Still, even with a relatively small discography, Dauwd has managed to turn heads; last year, he popped up in one of our Bubblin’ Up features, and in February, he announced that his latest EP, Kindlinn, would soon see the light of day via the storied Kompakt imprint. The three-track effort—which is currently streaming in full online—was officially released this week, so we invited Dauwd to mark the occasion by participating in our Hi-Five series. As his selections demonstrate, his choice to link up with Kompakt wasn’t a random one; the label has been influential in shaping Dauwd’s sound, and he’s elected to honor that by choosing his five favorite selections from Kompakt’s extensive catalog.

Dettinger “Blond”

This is KOM 2, so it’s one of the very early releases for Kompakt. The whole EP is subtly charming, with half the EP fairly ambient, and the other very much for the floor, which [became] the classic Kompakt formula. It samples Cocteau Twins & Harold Budd’s “The Ghost Has No Home,” gently driving the source to a hypnotic, warm place.

DJ Koze “Mariposa”

I am a huge fan of DJ Koze’s work, as his productions are wonderfully playful, and of the highest standard. His Pampa Records output is some of my favorite music, but for Kompakt, this has to be the one. It builds slowly and never gives too much away.

Triola “Leuchtturm (Wighnomys Polarzipper Remix)”

I love Robag Wruhme’s work and here, as Wighnomy Brothers, he stripped Triola’s acidy dream down to a minimal, harder edge.

Closer Musik “One Two Three (No Gravity)”

Mysterious and graceful, this is a great record. I listen to it over and over and have done so since I discovered it.

AGC Esquire “The First Broadcast”

Another alias of Scottish DJ/producer and Cut label head DFRNT, AGC Esquire has shared the retro-touched title track from his recently released EP. Drenched in bouncy percussion and textured synth melodies, “The First Broadcast” evokes the nostalgic sensation of booting up MegaMan on your NES, and watching as colorful 8-bit textures flicker across a CRT display. AGC Esquire’s production is an in-your-face reminder of the euphoric and optimistic soundscapes produced by hardware of past decades, revitalizing a familiar sound while incorporating his own fresh style and production techniques into the mix. After unveiling the initial lineup a few weeks ago—a list which included the likes of Robert Hood, Pearson Sound, Julio Bashmore, SOPHIE, and more—Massachusetts’ Together festival has officially announced the second wave of artists scheduled to peform this year at various venues throughout Boston and Cambridge. Celebrating its fifth year of festivities, the event will now feature performances from Body High co-founder Jerome LOL, Chicago house veteran Paul Johnson (pictured above), innovative UK producer Untold, LA linchpin The Gaslamp Killer, Portland producer/vocalist Natasha Kmeto, rising LuckyMe affialiate Cashmere Cat, Detroit techno expert Scott Grooves, and more.
