Jerome LOL and Samo Sound Boy, the two masterminds behind LA’s burgeoning Body High label, have started off 2014 in fine form, with the former issuing an excellent XLR8R podcast ahead of his new Deleted/Fool EP and the latter announcing his next two-track release earlier this month. In the midst of this activity, both DJ/producers also launched the Body High Radio project in conjunction with online concert series Boiler Room, and now videos of each of their performances from the inaugural webcast are available to watch. The show kicked off with an hour-long set from Samo Sound Boy, who—surrounded by house plants, Body High gear, and the CDJs’ flashing LED lights—warmed up the room for Jerome LOL’s own mix of eclectic dancefloor music. After releasing a new EP via TAR this week (the lead track from which we shared for download), prolific NYC producer Gobby has revealed details of his forthcoming Wakng Thrst For Seepng Banee LP before it drops via UNO. Along with the announcement of the ambitious, 21-track affair, a stream of album track “Aantezeksyll” and a video for “Red Seal”—which features a twisted cast of demonic puppets terrorizing a number of miniature sets during the song’s three-minute run—have also appeared. There was a time when Matrixxman seemed more focused on establishing a bizarre, internet-based persona than making tunes, but the San Francisco-based producer seems to have put those days behind him. Furthermore, where he once experimented with a multitude of styles and genres, he appears to have settled on the dancefloor, as most of his recent creations have walked the line between house, techno, and disco. Last year’s The XX Files EP for Brooklyn’s Fifth Wall imprint certainly turned plenty of heads toward Matrixxman, and next month, he’ll be issuing a sequel. The XX Files: Part II is slated to drop on March 31 via Soo Wavey, the label he runs in tandem with frequent collaborator Vin Sol, who also contributes to the new EP. The four-track record will follow Matrixxman’s 808 State of Mind, which comes out next week on the newly founded Delft imprint. As for The XX Files: Part II, it will be issued on vinyl only. Between sharing its new documentary and announcing plans to launch a festival in New York this year, Red Bull Music Academy has been a somewhat regular sight on XLR8R this week. The surge of action is likely because the application deadline for RBMA’s 2014 session in Tokyo is just around the corner (March 15, to be exact), which conveniently brings us to the organization’s upcoming Bass Camp series—a handful of mini-academies featuring special lectures and events set to touch down in San Francisco, Montreal, and Detroit over the next three weeks.

The Bass Camp run will begin this weekend in San Francisco. Events include a screening of RBMA’s new doc, preceded by a lecture session with veteran NYC DJ/producer Francois K (full disclosure, the discussion will be moderated by XLR8R editor Shawn Reynaldo). In addition, Francois K will be performing alongside the likes of Carl Craig, Suzanne Kraft, and Ghosts on Tape later that night. Full details of RBMA’s SF Bass Camp can be found here.

Beginning on February 27, RBMA will set up shop in Montreal for a four-day musical takeover, which will include various lectures and performances from Egyptian Lover, Junior Boys’ Jeremy Greenspan, and a special event co-coordinated alongside MUTEK. RBMA’s Bass Camp series will conclude in Detroit the following week, with a book release planned for Thursday, March 6 and lectures from Eddie Fowlkes, Kenny Dope, and Dâm-Funk set to take place on the following three days, respectively. Also part of the Motor City takeover will be a production “Round Robin” which will bring together Todd Osborn, Amp Fiddler, Marcus Belgrave, Dez Andres, and others for ongoing live collaborations on Friday, March 7. The following night will also include a special edition of Benji B’s Deviation party, which will include performances by Waajeed, Dâm-Funk, and Kenny Dope at Detroit’s TV Bar. No online list of RBMA’s upcoming Detroit events has been made public yet, but more information is expected to pop up as the dates approach.

In anticipation of Forest Swords‘ extensive world tour, the UK artist born Matthew Barnes has offered up a new video for “The Weight of Gold,” a standout cut from his debut album for Tri Angle, Engravings. Directed by Benjamin Millepied, the striking piece features androgynous dancer Billy Barry bounding over barren landscapes throughout Israel, as the atmospheric track nudges Barry’s primal movements with drum clacks and howling waves of filtered guitar. Berlin-based Black Acre mainstay Fantastic Mr Fox will soon follow up his sole release from last year, “The Trap” b/w “Jackal Youth,” with another two-track 12″ for the Bristol label. “On My Own” b/w “Broke” is purportedly the DJ/producer’s “most ambitious work to date,” with London singer Denai Moore contributing her folky voice to make for a “heart break anthem with genuine emotional impact” on the a-side. B-side “Broke” is said find Fantastic Mr Fox returning to the “club smasher” format while he draws on his roots in hip-hop. Black Acre will drop the record on April 21, but before then, a brief clip of its lead track can be heard below.

Late next month, 50Weapons mainstay Phon.o will continue “his quest into the deeper zones of club music” with the release of his next 12″ for Modeselektor’s label. The three-track Cracking Space Pt. 1 EP finds the German artist collaborating on two of its productions—”HereNow” with Malaysian duo Bass Sekolah, and San Francisco synth specialist Joshua Kit Clayton appearing on record closer “Moonwalk.” Phon.o’s new 12″ will arrive on March 28, but before then, its tracklist and artwork can be found below.
