Gerd Preps New 12″ for Clone as Literon, Shares Preview

Dutch production veteran and man of many aliases, Gerd will drop a new two-track single as Literon via Clone‘s Basement Series next month. According to the label, both sides of the record will deliver “thumping and rattling 909s, piercing stabs, otherworldly vocal cries, and Funktion One-shattering sub-bass.” Furthermore, the upcoming 12″ appears to find Gerd returning to his Literon handle in order to shed the soul-infused vibes of his more common alias, taking the opportunity to let the machines run wild over two sturdy dancefloor workouts. Before “Knob Exploitation” b/w “Freak Funktion” officially sees a release on November 11, its two strong-armed efforts can be previewed via the player below.

Hear the Title Track from Nguzunguzu’s Upcoming EP for Fade to Mind

Last month, Nguzunguzu announced its forthcomingSkycell EP for Fade to Mind, a label the duo co-runs alongisde Kingdom and Total Freedom. Now, with its latest effort set to drop next week, the Los Angeles pair has shared a full stream of the EP’s title track. The sound of “Skycell” should feel warmly familiar to fans of Nguzunguzu—trunk-rattling 808s and skittering percussion push the track’s four-minute run insistently forward while sparse bell melodies provide it with a ghostly lead. Below, the haunted club track can be streamed in full before Skycell officially drops on November 5.

Olugbenga “Silver Pixie, Iyawo Mi (Deft’s 95 Mix)”

Multi-talented Brighton producer/vocalist Olugbenga explores a host of hybrid electronic concoctions on his Silver Pixie EP (out this week via his own Replica Trophy label), but none with quite the same jungle undercurrent which UK producer Deft manages to lace his remix of “Silver Pixie, Iyawo Mi” with. Still, Deft’s rework isn’t all brooding mayhem, as he—ahem—deftly laces the track with free-flowing layers of cosmic synthwork and echoes of Olugbenga’s original production and vocals. Those interested in hearing “Silver Pixie, Iyawo Mi” in its unaltered form—along with the rest of Olugbenga’s five-track Silver Pixie EP, which happens to feature a production from Om Unit—can do so using the player included after the jump.

Download a Free Album from Hieroglyphic Being

Under his Hieroglyphic Being moniker, Afro-futurist and left-of-center DJ/producer Jamal Moss has shared a free download of a new album made up of reworked tracks and abstract jams. Bred from the likes of Steve Poindexter and Adonis, Moss knows house well enough to properly dismantle it, and for over a decade, has planted his feet firmly on the experimental side of the sound. In that vein, the artist’s new Seer of Cosmic Visions record compiles older material and more recent jam sessions into a series of patchy and mercurial tracks that fluctuate and collide with astutely trippy results. Moogfest Launches Circuit Bending Competition

After taking a year off, Moogfest—the Asheville, North Carolina-based festival hosted by the renowned synthmakers at Moog—is currently gearing up for its return in 2014. This, it turns out, also means the return of the festival’s DIY circuit bending competition, which this year offers Moogfest passes and a new analog synth to its three winning contestants. While the spectrum of circuit bending is a pretty wide open field, Moogfest has provided some guidelines for those who wish to participate: The device one chooses to bend must be battery operated (using no more than nine volts of power), the total cost of materials used must be less than $70, and a “bill of materials” must be provided along with build instructions and step-by-step photos sequencing the process of making the circuit-bent device. From those willing to meet the criteria and unafraid to get their hands dirty (and perhaps burnt by a soldering gun here and there), three winning devices will be chosen—with each receiving a pair of Moogfest passes, the grand-prize winner taking home a Moog Sub Phatty synth, and the second- and third-place contestants will be able to claim a new Slim Phatty and Minitaur, repsectively. Submissions are due by midnight, February 23, 2014; the full rules, details, and instructions for submitting to the Fourth Annual Moog Circuit Bending Challenge can be found here.

Video Premiere: beGun “Shanghai”

Spanish producer beGun has been gradually making his way around the corners of the electronic music community, having shared a recent single on XLR8R earlier in the year and appearing on Boiler Room’s stages at Primavera and Sónar. For his brand-new Shanghai EP (available now via Subterfuge), beGun appears to be building on his palette of shimmering soundscapes, which this video for the record’s title track lovingly illustrates. A couple clad in white is the piece’s focus, embodying the track’s ethereally romantic vibe as they explore and float around an immense frozen environment. While “Shanghai” employs a vaporous female voice that bobbs around the sub frequencies and rhythm section, its visuals display vast open waters plowing into immense glaciers.

Clone to Release Fourth and Final Drexciya Reissue; Preview It Now

After hinting at a fourth installment of the Drexciya reissue series Journey of the Deep Sea Dweller, long-running Dutch label Clone has officially revealed the full details of the final compilation. Starting back in 2011, Clone excavated the discography of the legendary Drexciya group to form a series of compilations of their canonical work (of course, XLR8R has been making sure to keep tabs on each of the installments). The reissues have followed the iconic Detroit outfit’s progression from the Atlantis-inspired mythology of the earlier work to the more scientifically focused themes of the latter years, when founding member Gerald Donald operated under the name as a solo act. The 16-track Journey of the Deep Sea Dweller IV will also include five never-before-heard tracks when its CD edition drops on December 3, with a double-LP package scheduled to drop the following week. Until then, the record’s tracklist can be perused below, where a preview of the music can also be found.

Hear a New Collaborative Track from John Talabot

With just a few more weeks left before the release of John Talabot‘s installment of the DJ-Kicks mix album series, we’re being treated to some of that record’s exclusive productions. First, the Barcelona-based producer shared a version of his previously unheard “Without You” single, and for the latest taste, he’s streaming a collaborative track he wrote with Alexander Berg of Swedish outfit Genius of Time under the name Tempel Rytmik. The patient tune, called “Anagrama,” shuffles and shakes in its mellowed-out atmosphere, as warped synths and field recordings imbue the song with a balmy and wild vibe. Before John Talabot’s DJ-Kicks drops on November 12, his new collaborative production can be heard below.

Louis Futon “Shoulda Known (Ganz Remix)”

Netherlands producer Ganz has dabbled in a few forms of beat music, but his latest remix for Philadelphia duo Louis Futon finds him narrowing in on a hyper-melodic, trap-infused style. “Shoulda Known (Ganz Remix)” places a chipmunk vocal sample squarely in the center of a bright, neon production, as if daring the listener to try to resist its saccharine appeal. The rest of the track circles around warm, twinkly synth arpeggios and floating chords that fill out the sonic spectrum while remaining far enough in the background to not distract—proof that Ganz knows his way around a solid hook.
