OL “Graphic (Slava Remix)”*Loveless*

The juke-obssesed Moscow producer OL is set to drop an EP via Miami’s Loveless imprint, following on the heels of an acclaimed collaboration with ¥oin for Fine Grains and an excellent mix for The FADER. The eight-track Save and Protect EP presents four original productions and four remixes, including one from NYC-based Moscow expat Slava. On “Graphic (Slava Remix),” the remixer injects a hearty amount of sub-bass dread into the otherwise fresh, airy beats of OL’s tune, the original version of which can be heard before Save and Protect drops on July 22, after the jump. Arkist Rendezvous (SCB Remixes)

On occasion, it feels like Paul Rose found the “anthem” preset in Ableton and didn’t look back. Whether crafting coiled dub as SCB or melancholic hits like “Adrenalin” as Scuba, Rose’s more recent tracks often hit a sweet spot of melodic intrigue that doesn’t necessarily suffer from their omnipresence. With these SCB remixes of Arkist‘s “Rendevous,” Rose doesn’t go too big, as the tracks here retain a recognizable unease and dark touch that emphasizes the frozen percussive space of the original tune while tossing off its swampy vocal sample.

There are two different takes on “Rendezvous” here, a “2011 Edit” and a “2013 Dub.” Given the rapid bubble and burst of microtrends within the electronic landscape, it’s a little surprising that Apple Pips has chosen to pair the tracks together as an official release, especially when the former is at least two years old. First appearing on Scuba’s DJ-Kicks mix, the “2011 Edit” has supposedly served as an Apple Pips “secret weapon” in the interim. There’s only a two-note ghost of the original song’s melody, while sublime pads envelop the kick with a sense of warmth. The shuddering outro suggests potential as a powerful mixing tool, but otherwise, the edit inspires more roundabout disorientation than heads-down concentration.

The “SCB 2013 Dub” is the superior effort, obscured in murk and rustling field recordings. An extended spoken-word sample is totally indecipherable, but the quicksilver hi-hats and pressurized kick are transportive enough to make any literal translation unnecessary. The brooding melody recalls SCB’s “Dissipate” from the Nonplus+-issued Think and Change compilation from earlier this year, and the song’s arpeggiated paranoia almost sounds like an old Underworld record. The track exudes a claustrophobic feeling, and when the staccato bassline lunges from the fog of the breakdown, it’s a reminder that Rose’s SCB guise hasn’t lost its unnerving touch.

Listen to Soft Metals’ Sophomore LP

LA-via-Portland synth-pop duo Soft Metals is a week from releasing its second long-player via Brooklyn’s decidedly nostalgic Captured Tracks label, and has preemptively posted all of its eight tracks online to be streamed in full. Lenses finds Ian Hicks and Patricia Hall continuing to refine the ’80s-centric sound pushed on their first album, Soft Metals, albeit with a bit of a darker edge and more eclectic sound palette than before. Prior to the release of Lenses on July 16, Soft Metals’ forthcoming record can be heard in its entirety below, where a sizable list of its upcoming tour dates can also be found. (via FACT)

Community Corporation “Gary’s Wall”*Crisis Urbana*

There’s very little info out there about Community Corporation other than where he’s from, but the Detroit producer has just released a three-track EP via tiny Michigan label Crisis Urbana. Called No Space, the offering’s rhythmic drum work and crackling synths bear the heavy stamp of the producer’s hometown techno heritage. But opening track “Gary’s Wall” takes a more gentle approach, with oscillating synths wafting over a steady bass pulse that is the closest thing the track has to a beat. The No Space EP is available now as a “name-your-price” download over at Crisis Urbana’s Bandcamp. (via Live for the Funk)

Huerco S. Readies Debut LP for Software

Kansas City resident and Bubblin’ Up producer Huerco S. has announced that he will release his debut full-length effort this fall via Software. Having become a key artist amongst a new generation of US producers pursuing non-traditional house creations—alongside the likes of Anthony Naples, Delroy Edwards, Roche, etc.—Huerco S. issued his first EP of the year via Future Times, which appeared around the same time that a record under his Royal Crown of Sweden moniker inaugurated Naples’ Proibito label in April. Now, the burgeoning DJ/producer’s much-anticipated debut LP, called Colonial Patterns, is said to find the man attempting to “ruralise” house music across 14 new tracks. Before the LP drops on September 24, its artwork and tracklist can be found below.

Wintercoats “Halogen Moon (Mmoths Remix)”**

I need some light/But there’s no light” is the simple refrain that caught the ear of Irish producer Mmoths (pictured above), who uses his remix to focus in on these two lines central the original version of Wintercoats‘ “Halogen Moon.” Taking the lyrics’ wistful sentiment as a jumping point, Mmoths’ rework is a calming and inviting production, one that amasses gorgeous textures and pleasant melodies while still leaving large sections of empty sonic space available so that the trails of the tune’s more airy elements are not lost in the background. Momths’ remix comes as a belated companion to Wintercoats’ Heartful EP, which was released back in April of this year via Yes Please and is available to hear in full after the jump.

Visionist Announces New EP for Leisure System

London-based producer and Lost Codes label boss Visionist has been steadily making a name for himself with a string of heavy-hitting singles on labels such as Big Dada, Signal Life, and 92 Points, as well as a feature on Kode9’s recent Rinse:22 mix CD (not to mention being featured in our Bubblin’ Up series last year). And today, the grime-inclined producer has announced his forthcoming Snakes EP for Leisure System. The three-track record reportedly stretches the producer’s sound beyond the purview of South London and, according to the press release, into “the belly of Berghain.” Before Snakes is released on July 22, a clip of EP track “Snakebite” can be heard below, where the tracklist for Visionist’s next record can also be found.

Grab Native Instruments’ Traktor DJ App for Free

As part of the fifth anniversary of its iTunes App store, Apple has made some of its most popular iPhone and iPad apps availible to grab for free, including Native Instruments‘ freshly launched Traktor DJ. As we detailed in our recent review of the software, Traktor DJ is a rather compreshensive app which allows for one’s touch to control filters, EQs, FX, cue points, and basically every function a DJ could possibly need with a “minimalist, laser-focused approach on usability.” For today (July 8) only, Traktor DJ for the iPad can be downloaded for free here and for the iPhone here.

Sampha Preps Debut EP for Young Turks, Shares New Track

It’s hard to believe that SBTRKT collaborator Sampha hasn’t yet released any solo material, but that’s about to change with the announcement that his debut EP, Dual, will drop later this month via Young Turks. The UK singer/producer has received considerable recognition already for his distinctive, emotive vocals, which were showcased earlier this year on a collaborative 12″ with Koreless under the name Short Stories. For his debut EP, the artist has taken over all mixing and production duties, as well as singing, on all six tracks. Sampha’s Dual EP includes a new version of demo track “Indecision” and is set to see release on July 29. Before then, the record’s tracklist and cover art can be viewed below, where its first leak “Without” is streaming.

1. Demons
2. Beneath The Tree
3. Without
4. Hesitant Oath
5. Indecision
6. Can’t Get Close

Stream a Track from Iron Galaxy’s Upcoming EP

The Things We Lost Along the Way EP—the first record to arrive from Montreal producer Iron Galaxy since impressing us with last year’s “Attention Seeker” single—is set to drop next week, but before then, its lead single, “Giving You,” has been made available to stream in full. Coming on a bit stronger than its sleek and soulful predecessor, “Giving You” shows off Iron Galaxy’s proficiency with hardware-made techno, placing subtle acid-filter twists and alternating layers of gooey synth pads atop a driving drum-machine rhythm. The tune can be heard in the player below before the Things We Lost Along the Way EP drops via the fledgling Born Electric label on July 15.
